I'd check the terminals. Clean them and try again. Make sure they are in firm contact. Sometimes my lasers don't want to turn on. When that happens I clean or reposition the springs or contacts. It almost always works.
Mine went dead, and following the advice here tried foil. No luck. But then had a think and the reason for no contact is that I kept the batteries in the laser instead of the holder (obvious now they are meant to go there during non use, duh) and the springs at the bottom have been pushed down and contact is poor. I then took a 125mm screw and used a grinder to make the head flat and then used it to pry up the springs. A few pulls on each spring and it worked first time after the batteries were back in.
*I didn't know how much easier this made a bunch of projects around the house from framing in new basement to lining up recessed lighting on the ceiling!*
I have had several of these lasers and the only problem I have had with them is the springs at the bottom of the laser inside the battery compartment become weak so the battery contact is not there.I use a piece of tinfoil over the battery with the weak spring.
My DW088K went on the blink and wouldn’t turn on despite new batteries. I put a little bit of tin foil over the terminals at the top (not the spring ones) which replicated the metal in the cover. I gently closed the flap to secure the battery compartment and hey presto it works again. Pretty poor show though as it’s only three months old so I’ll try and get the supplier to replace it.
By replacing the top cover the cicuitboard is damaged. some components are broken of. I need the values of R6, R10, R12, R14, C4 and D1 (and the way how D1 is mounted) Maybe a picture ?
I played with both trim pots and still the same. They were at the end clockwise, turned half turn counter clockwise till the end and still the same.Turn till the end clock wise ans still the same...Soi guess it is good for garbage..Thanks for helping. Regards
Easy fix replacing the focus lens, u need to order from China btw please send me the exact mesurments of that cylindrical lens...... Hey , did you ever get this fixed ? I'm probably 2 years too late but I might have a solution for you. I've just fixed my one which had the same issue as yours.
@@SebPaquet1 the battery terminals came loose over time or maybe from being dropped which ment the batterys weren't in there tight enough to make a good connection. What I did was folded a tiny piece of foil a few times until it was about 4mm thick , slide the batterys in the tool them place the foil ontop of the battery , then when the lid comes down you'll have a much tighter connection on your batterys.
@@SebPaquet1 also though the process of elimination i figured out that it was only 1 battery that wasnt tight enough so only needed to use 1 piece of foil and not 3. Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.
sadly i'm not sure what causes them to go dim like that, maybe the battery's are not touching as well as when the laser was new so it gets less power than needed, one way to fix that is to scratch the contacts on the battery lid and put a few big beads solder , i did that with a few lasers that had rusty springs and cordoded contacts to squeeze a bit more life out of them and it worked fine. the other way to try and fix it is to find a small potentiometer that should be under the PCB with the pink tape on top, to access that you got to remove the last black screw that is designed for the same screwdriver you used to open it(it's in front of the whole thing in that small gap ) it takes a bit of finesse taking it out and putting it back in(the on/off buttons will block the pcb from going back in easly) anyway once you pull it out you can check for the magnet below and make sure it's holding onto the glue and it's not raised from it's place at all, they tend to get loose after a while and touch the moving part and then it starts to show you bad levels.
obscur156 i have same problem with my dewalt 088k horizontal line i buy brand new laser and use him about 1000hors maybe less. If you will fix your laser please write me :)
No,did not take the time to investigate more. Witgang Younotube gives a lot of info on maybe how to repair it. I have a new bigger one now. Thanks for watching, regards

James Smith here Amparo, from Spain. Same problem here, so you really believe replacing those cilinders will make the light brighter? The horizontal one is almost visible in my device. The ebay link you’re sent is the exact cilíndrelo measurement needed? Any tips to replace that tiny part? Thanks!

Hi. Do you still have it? I would like to give it a try repairing it. I can perhaps purchase it but sure donations are very very veeeery welcome
Absolutely worth the £ to buy new one. They are so cheap and do so much good work. Idk why people want to repair it. Howeve, Id really love to fix mine. After a fall it now gives -2mm difference at 5m distance. It's nothing but if you know how to fix it id appreciate a hint! Tried to turn the 2 screws but they dont move or i dony want to press them harder. It is 5 years old laser and didnt used it much.
SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM: Non-working Dewalt laser DW087 leveler Posting for those who get this video from google search. Start: Step1 : Take a 120 grit sandpaper. Cut it into a thin strip. Make into a cylinder. Bend the bottom of cylindrical sandpaper to make a polishing head Step 2: Sand out the battery contacts [ for the contacts that are heavily corroded]. Do this gently so as not to dislocate the contacts from it's housing. Step 3: Take a Q-tip. Soak one end in Rubbing Alcohol. Put it inside the battery housing and clean out thoroughly. End: 90% of the time, doing the above will work. Do not grind out or damage the battery terminals with excessive force or pushing. Rub gently and let the sand paper do the work.
Tin foil on the top of the batteries worked like a charm!
I'd check the terminals. Clean them and try again. Make sure they are in firm contact.

Great tip right there .
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks I will try in the morning. Always thought those holes were for spares
I adjusted screws on the laser that inside the glass and mine working perfect again 👍

I have the same problem with the DW088G
Legend, saved me £100 and a trip to Screwfix
It WORKS - Use Foil !! Thanks

Also check if you have about 3,7 volt out from the trimpots
Lots of good info,i think i have a multimeter laying around. Thanks buddy.
Ok,just checked the voltage and i have 3.62 volts. So i guess everything is ok...
There are 2 off them, one or vertical and one for horisontal
Check the trimpot on circuitboard behind the 2 lasers
Ok ,thanks i will try to check this week end.Best regards.

I checked the trimpot and it was ok but the #2 foo line was scratched so I checked the ni pile.still not working
9 years! Mine just took a shit and only used it 5 or 6 times
Oh,thats not cool.
There is a couple of things you can try here on TH-cam.
Good luck and keep us updated with your issue.
Regards.
What size Torx bit did you use to get the case off? Thanks very much.
Smaller then T15 if i remember
Or a 2mm allen wrench
I have same laser.. my issue is now it shuts off immediately after I turn it on.. roughly 9 years old
Planned obsolescence from Sewalt i guess, life span is over just like mine...

I have a green laser and it won’t display both horizontal and vertical lines at same time? It did when I got it... only had it 3-4 months? Advice?
change battery and check the contacts if they are ok .Check if battery have not leak. You can try smooth sand paper on contacts.
obscur156 thank you will give it a go! 😊
Hi does anyone know why the horizontal line on my laser is really dull and looks like a split line but the vertical line is fine?
Mine started doing this today
ever figure out how to fix it?
Anyone ever have the gyroshope thing stop moving ?
A Fez. The gimble needs to be lubed
