lol I have to skip them to because otherwise I'll have his melody stuck in my head for that backing track.. He's great and his backing tracks are the bomb but I have to skip the intros.. He should just have one section of backing tracks and another section of just him.
Just play the same notes that you do in E minor, but move the standard pentatonic shape to the 5th fret, and try and focus on the Cminor arpeggiated notes to land on, and go by F# alot to emphasize the lydian mode
@@IoIocaust Not sure about the Cminor bit. The chord's got a major third. That being said, a neat pentatonic trick is to play a Bm pentatonic scale over the jam. You'll get the major 7th AND the raised 4th. Those are the flavorful notes to me in that context.

For those who really like the Lydian sound, read George Russell’s book on the Lydian Chromatic Concept.
Basically, the flowing quality of the Lydian is no coincidence. It turns out that you can actually move up or down a perfect 5th using any note in the scale and still remain on key. On the other hand, if you move up a perfect 5th from the 7th degree of the major scale, you will end up playing the #4, which the scale does not include. The perfect 5th is the strongest resolution, based on the natural workings of overtones.
If you're loving this track it is definitely worth checking out Zappa's Inca Roads for even more inspiration.

Its better than Joes new one in my opinion..(his body of work already speaks for it self anyway)fresh ideas my man,you do it well..
Quist Has the best solos As far as a guy who can casually improvise incendiary blues and modal solos effortlessly. I have yet to see a modern blues rock player (other than Bonamassa or Eric Jonson or Gales or Trucks with his energy and Inspiration in the context of modern blues rock or any shredder other than Guthrie Govan who does as well. Andy Wood, Tom Bucovac, Quayle, Asato,etc he is in that elite group of new blood that are some of the best ever.
He sounded like he was playing a polished Satriani solo and he just ripped it with the freedom few players can manage.phenomenal

Learning to solo in Lydian is like speaking a new language you didn’t know you knew in your subconscious. Once you learn where the notes that fit are it’s like a whole different alphabet on the neck at your disposal you know how to put together to form words.

I can never hear Lydian as Lydian
I hear it as aeolian
When I hear this chord progression I’m like
“Resolve to the iii!”
Cuz I hear it as
“VIb VIIb”
And I want it to resolve to the I chord
I mainly hear it like this cuz there’s not much Lydian music out there
Even in jazz, there’s only brief moments lol

I sounds like Buck Dharma in Blue Öyster Cult. So I read this:
Buck Dharma is known for using mixolydian mode, phrygian scales and he dared to get out of the pentatonic blues scale which most 70s guitarists kept using.

The C Lydian is a mode of the G major scale. Just play the familiar G major scale shape and it will sound just right.

G major will work over A Dorian,B Phrygian,C Lydian,D Mixolydian and so on.
