I didn’t even know who Jake E Lee was until about couple months ago. He’s incredible. The Ultimate Sin is a great album I’ve come to love. Almost makes me want to buy a Charvel
THE KEY is you gotta love it,along with everything else you are supposed to love,i;ve played for 50 years, seriously, the time on the neck is your time to unwind, rewind, and if you play with others, expand, the expanding is the fun part--JAKE'S playing and writing amazes me,i've heard many
I enjoy these videos so much. Metal month is just what the doctor ordered. These 80’s guitarists are what inspired my playing, although Ace is the reason I play guitar. Keep up the great videos. 🤘🏼
Wow does this bring back memories. Seeing JEL live practically all by itself sent me back to school, as there was no way I was going to compete with that. Then he put his thumb on the fretboard and I saw my guitar hero career vanish before my eyes! Wonderful lesson.
Just subscribed! Your teaching ability is incredible and your playing effortless. You are covering guitarists that I grew up with that made me want to play in the first place but never had lessons. I'd be so far more advanced if I could have found a teacher like you back in the 80's and early 90's. At least now, there's your channel and I thank you for what you're doing. Love the breakdowns of the licks. Keep up the great work man!
This is awesome and I love getting comments and feedback like this - thank you! It makes me feel good to notice I'm reaching and helping people with music on this channel - that's exactly who I am and what I do. I honestly almost didn't create this channel and attempt to do this, as I was afraid that no one would care and wouldn't "get it." It makes me GREAT noticing that I'm making a lot of folks happy and inspiring others, which is what this is ALL about - and it's great to notice so many people that "get it." Take care, thanks again, and ROCK ON! : )
Your playing is great. You've got awesome tone and fluidity. It's very pleasant on the ear - and watching what you are doing is astonishing on the eyeballs!
These videos are really excellent & as an intermediate player of thirty plus years, I find these short, concise licks are superb exercises for left and right hand techniques. And coming from my favourite guitarists that I grew up on is just an added bonus. Met Jake on the "Bark At The Moon" tour in 83 and he gave me a pick (Fender Heavy), Very humble guy! Many thanks!!
I love your videos. You don't talk too much but you give a genuine commentary which feels like a real life lesson. The content is always spot on and well explained. You're my go to for learning anything
I forgot about this solo. Back on the day, I didn't give Jake a fair shake as a Randy fan but Randy was no longer available and Jake was awesome. Thanks for this lesson
You are absolutely up there in he most relevant guitar teachers on TH-cam, whether you intend to be or not. You prove one doesn’t have to always take into account the beginner. LOVE YOUR LESSONS!!
Thank you for demonstrating these beautiful sexy licks, by the greatest guitar shredder Jake E. Lee. he’s the best guitarist ever and to me this is the greatest guitar solo in concert ever nobody has come close
I just found your channel and I watched a bunch of your videos, and you are an outstanding instructor. Your style of instructing and your attitude is so disarming that it makes it great to learn off you. Outstanding lessons and keep up the great content.
I may have told this story, I saw Jake in 1983 Long Beach on the BATM tour. I got laid, got into a car accident, and still got to see Jake play live, awesome time of my life.
Superb burning....loved those licks forever, never seen them played that well...kudos....Jake E Lee is in my top 5...1) EVH 2) Schenker 3) Randy 4) Jake 5) Sykes
There’s a bad ass lick that Jake does on the Live Ultimate Sin concert...it’s literally when he jumps out for his solo...his fingers are FLYING! See if you can decipher that riff.
You should do the whole solo! There are enough people out there who would love to know what is going on in this piecd. Jake is a genius.... wonderful guitarist and showman
Totally Awesome !!!! Keep Up The Good Videos! ! Jake is a Great person. I met Jake a few Months ago. Very Humble and Cool Person. Gave me a Guitar Pick too!
You do a great job with these lessons . You make want to pick up my guitar again and by the way Jake E. Lee is a great guitarist and has always been underrated. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. You do him justice.
I’m three years late but ALSO whenever Ozzy decides to start yanking him around by his hair and jostle him around like crazy and he STILL sounds incredible
Man this one of my favorite vids you did that i keep coming back to. I hope you seriously do some Jake licks from The Ultimate Sin. Songs like Never, Thank God for the Bomb, & Secret Loser need some light shed on them, Dave!!! Keep rok'n! 🤘😎👍
Thank you so much and yes, I'm totally planning on some Vito Bratta in an upcoming lesson. He was such a monster player and so few people even know who he is or what he played like back in the day. I might create a Chordplay episode and a Three-For-All lesson featuring him (just to really get some of his ideas out there). Good call and a great guitarist! ROCK ON!
During the time Jake faded into obscurity, a buddy of mine told me he was once Jake’s neighbor in Las Vegas, Nevada. He would often see him doing mechanic work on cars and once even offered to sell my buddy an old Marshall amp.
Wow! That's crazy to think about and honestly makes me a little ticked at Ozzy, as Jake felt he had a great gig with the band until he learned how much control Sharon had over the legal side of things and how little control he actually had. When I read those stories of how he was pressured into signing contacts and agreements and those threats about "another guitarist" coming in to "record his parts" if he refused to sign made me mad. But I could honestly see how that happened and the greed that both Ozzy and Sharon had/have with music and all that money. It's a shame really, but it happens all the time. Rock on and thanks for watching! : )
Ok, I JUST noticed your textbook picking hand. Visitors, watch Dave's thumb. It's the best way to pick if you have the patience to learn it. No burning forearm, wrist or whatever. This is a great lesson. I love the first lick he does. There's another video on YT with better quality during the BATM tour. Dave you nailed this one. Your playing is growing on me. You know your shit 👍. Again, another great job brother!!
Thank you for doing this on Jake. He's always been one of my favorites. Please do some more Ozzy era stuff and Badlands from the first album! Thank you!
I've been listening to rock & metal since the early 80s, actually now that I think about it, the late 70s with Queen. Anyway, what I like about your videos is that through your playing, I can see and hear things that I missed when listening to the music. I've had several moments watching your videos where I think "holy crap, that's what he's playing??!!".
Damn. You nailed it. I loved Jake's solo on the Ultimate Sin tour, but the BATM solo is still my favorite. Thank you for breaking it down!!! Can you show how to play the beginning of the solo?? it's the first 2 minutes where Jake has this incredible single note tone going on.. Thanks again!!!
I always thought one of the cool things about this solo was the fact that it was accompanied. Jake can handle himself just fine unaccompanied, as anyone who's seen him doing his solo after "Killer of Giants" on The Ultimate Ozzy concert can attest. But it just works so well here, the key changes in the song, the whole thing. Very cool. And it keeps the momentum of the show going. I played in the L.A. metal scene in the 80s on the Sunset Strip, and unless you were Paul Gilbert and in a headlining band like Racer X you couldn't get away with doing anything unaccompanied. I wonder if Jake worked in his solos like this when he was playing in Ratt, Rough Cutt, or Greg Leon's Invasion.
7:27 this little 2 note per string ‘roll’ has become ones my favorite licks lately, sounds so good and you can play them all over the neck. Phenomenal picking my friend.

There is some nice technique on how you pick, like moving the 2 fingers that hold the pick instead of the whole hand/arm... I like it. Lesson was excellent, thanks a lot!

Another great lesson David. A quick explaination of the picking sequence of these licks would be really helpful for someone like me who who suffers from tab dyslexia and is never sure if I'm approaching things right. . Cheers bro.
Maaan - I love that live solo, always put it on a pedestal though I just played it through after seeing you play it (My guitar playing is ever-so-slightly better now than in 1986!) I feel like the sweet shop owner just handed me the largest candy bar! LOL :D
I've watched that live solo probably 1000 times over the years - never gets old
Jake was my favorite guitarist from Ozzy's solo career
Eric F krackenthorpe still is..
Jake > Zakk > Randy
Randy is the best Ozzy wouldn't be Ozzy without Rhoads

Jake is the master of chord changes that sound simple but they end up being way more complex than I ever imagined.
He would have got alot of that stuff from Hendrix...
Bark at the Moon is just one of those iconic guitar songs that you just HAVE to learn, like Crazy Train, Smoke on the Water, Stairway, etc.
Jake's solo on this tour is one of my all-time favorites and you did an amazing job covering 3 special licks.
Dude I love your cover photo! Haha nailed it.
Jake was Ozzy's best guitar player. IMO.
I always thought that Zakk Wylde was Jake Lite! Zakk was great but Jake was the MAN. ;)
@Yeah Whatever I think Randy was by far the most innovative, but I do think Jake had more technical skill and precision.
You're not wrong.
Torkel Svenson Randy was shit
