I made a GIANT friendship bracelet headband (from yarn scraps)

  • Here’s how I made my headband…results may vary for different head sizes!
    Materials:
9 different colors of acrylic yarn (Red Heart Super Saver)
    Tape measure
    Scissors
    Packing tape (duct tape, etc)
    Toes
    Directions:
Cut a strand from each skein of yarn that measures 218 inches long
Lay strands out nicely next to one another, so they are not tangled
Fold all colors in half, taking care to try and not mix up the colors (if you do, it’s fine…it’s hard not to)
Measure 14 inches from the fold, and tie all strands into a knot
Tape on a table or hold yarn with your toe while you work
Complete Chevron Friendship Bracelet pattern (2 knots per color on each side…watch a tutorial if you don’t know how to do this!!) until desired length (I made my design 14” long, so that it stopped right above each of my ears…make yours as long or short as you’d like!)
Cut the folded loops on the top, so you have 18 individual strands of yarn
Measure 15” on the bottom end of the free hanging yarn, cut and tie a knot at the bottom of the chevrons to match the one at the top
Separate 18 into 3 groups of six and braid each side
Tie knots at the ends of braids
Tie that cutie on your head! You’re done! :)

Ooh bookmarks are a cool idea! I could never sell any of my yarn crafts cause I have too many cats. 😂 This thing is full of little tied in cat hairs. 😂🙈

Girl, that is so cute. I remember doing these. So much fun. You could a squiggle rug. Those are fun too. You could have a blast blending the colors. Alison Russell has a very good tutorial of that technique. The pattern makes a rug, or blanket, that is ver plush. Hugs from Florida ☀️🌈

Friendship bracelets brought me back. The headband is real cute. Again I am amazed that your cats can be that close to yarn and not roll around in your project.

They’re pretty good about it for the most part! I’m surprised too. Jasper is a jerk sometimes, though. 😂 And yesss these babies take me way back, too. 😭 The nostalgia! ❤️

I used to make friendship bracelets when I was young, you have genuinely just inspired me to go and make one of these for my BF for Xmas. (She has some alopecia), and this will help her feel really comfortable and look stunning!

When I made macrame wall hangings, I used long strands of jute. I made little bundles with my hand, and tied them with rubber bands. Looks like a way you can use to not make a snarl or knot.

Such a crafty girl. I’m sad I never had the friends bracelet experience. We had some sort of bead pin thing. Actually I think only myself and one other girl did that, so not an actual thing😢. I really like the headband and think it could look cool stitched together as a pillow cover. Anyway good job 👍.

Aww, Anna! I’m sorry you didn’t have that experience as a kid. 🫂 It’s never too late for friendship bracelets! 🥰 I still love making them, and doing it with yarn like this makes it a lot easier to learn/see. Totally would be a cute pillow, you’re right! ❤️🌈🧶

If you wind the long strands onto bobbins it might be easier to manage. You can make small bobbins out of cardboard.

    • @Lizfoolery
      @Lizfoolery  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That’s smart! I was going to roll them up and tie them with rubber bands but I decided against it cause they were relatively manageable after a few rounds but that really does sound so much easier! 😂 I wanted to make a purse strap but was intimidated by the amount of yarn I’d need…that idea makes it seem doable!! ❤️❤️❤️

If there is anyone out there in metric land - 218 inches = 553.72 centimetres. Just over 5 and a half metres!!! You’re right lady, that’s SUPER long :)

This is so cool, I have loads of yarn that needs using so I'm definitely going to give this a go. I'm wondering if kumihimo bobbins might help with keeping the long loose ends from getting tangled?
