  • Jewish American General Maurice Rose, who grew up in Colorado, was killed in action on March 30, 1945. He spent almost 3 years in continuous combat defeating Nazi Germany in Tunisia, Sicily, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Battle of Cologne with his 3rd Armored Division. Known as the front lines General, he was the highest ranking officer to be killed in combat in Europe. Because he didn't survive the war and have an opportunity to publish a memoir, his heroic story has been lost in the history of World War II.

At 20'45, the soldier without a helmet kicking papers on the road near a destroyed smoking vehicle is Capt. Louis-Pierre "Peter" Chatenay, the Free French liaison officer to the 3rd Armored, and my father. He admired General Maurice Rose immensely.

You are wrong. He was an American military officer a who happened to be Jewish. He was not murdered but shot in the chaos of a night encounter. That he was Jewish is secondary. Few knew he was Jewish as he kept it hidden. It’s not about the Jews but the American soldiers and others who fought and in some cases died to stop evil. 🇺🇸

I think you are right. They didn't search him after they shot him so I think it was done in the fog of war. However, there is a chance he was trying to defend himself by going for his pistol and that is why he was killed. In any case, the distraction gave his driver and aid a chance to escape. So I think he helped save their lives.
