Thank you so much for this simple but effective demo. I have heard the term "field weakening" but not really understood until now.

Hi greta video and thanks for sharing. Did you do a road test? If yes what was the top speed? I'm thinking to change my controllers to have field weakening. Thanks

What's the rated power of the motor? Remain at 65 km/h requires already more than 2kW, the torque demand increases consequently with the speed while wheaking the field reduces the torque, I'm not sure that the maximum real speed would be increased ?

Meet you here thinking about field weakening to gain some speed .... Accident i do not think so :D
      I smell new project :D
check this (e-bike that can reach 191kmh using field weakening) : th-cam.com/video/ED462YGCVSg/w-d-xo.html
What i understand about field weakening in simple words : its like changing motor from high torque and slow to fast but with less tourque (and less eficient becouse of field weakening) without adding more volts (for example if you can't because insulation on coil does not allow for higher Voltage) and without revinding the motor , you just change the settings (all time you will get amlost the same output power)
its only how I understand this from .... google and yt xD so I can be wrong
PS. if you ever go in composites like carbon / fiberglass+resin etc like making box for battery you can ask me if you need advice (i work with it few years) :)

If rpms rises faster than torque decreases then your power will still climb. Thats the whole point of it.

Hi Evxpower, How is the efficiency of the motor affected when field weakening is applied?

    • @ev-power

For a given voltage, an electric motor has a "base speed", it will not go faster because the back EMF equals the applied voltage. Field weakening can increase the speed of the motor but efficiency is sacrificed as some energy is used to suppress the motor back EMF.

If the motor uses permanent magnets, how the field can be reduced?

From the ampere meter value I think it will be not more efficient compare with without one. It draw more current to increase speed

@@IncroyablesExperiences it is the field generated by the windings who is weakened
