Over the years, it seems the Irish ladies burp/belch more than the men. Lena and Lolsy would be a perfect pairing. Or maybe its just the clever TRY editing 😝
Cool! A chance to particidrink. Just poured a Hibiki 12 year vs Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby 147 (not the year). Neat, naturally. A good bar mix to go with them is Beer Nuts with sesame sticks, those little dried pineapple pieces, and toasted coconut strips. It pairs well with whiskeys/bourbons, but not so much the peatier scotches.
Hmmm Japanese whisky. Those are not like "common" in the Liquer stores here in Norway on the shelf since you usually need to order them but there are a few. I have never liked whisky or bourbon especially...until i found this channel actually and now i been trying irish, scottish, canadian and american whisky and bourbon so thanks!
The color comes from the charring of the wood. The bourbon is almost always going to be darker because bourbon is kept in newly charred barrels, whereas Japanese (like Scotch) traditionally goes into spent barrels.
Exactly! It's almost unfair to even compare them. Bourbon is on the very edge of being a different drink all together. I would say as far as an international spectrum bourbon and Japanese whiskey are on opposite ends of the spectrum, Irish whiskey being closer in profile to Japanese and Scottish being closer to Bourbon in profile. All beautiful crafts in their own right
For what it's worth, a few of the "Japanese" whiskies here are actually cheap Scotch/Irish spirit that's been barrelled or bottled in Japan, the regulations over there aren't very strict and the huge surge in Japanese whiskey popularity has seen a lot of these pseudo Japanese things show up on the market. Real Japanese whiskey tends to be a bit better but the prices right now are insane.
@@CorvusCorone68It’s fair play to rebrand cheap whiskeys as Japanese because Japanese people are also using fake wasabi in their sushi restaurants abroad? That’s a bit confusing
@@icarusfx no, restaurants abroad, which may not be Japanese-owned, are using fake wasabi cuz the real thing is expensive to transport and hard to cultivate outside of Japan; anyone can learn how to make sushi, you don't have to be Japanese
Japanese whisky is generally closer to scotch than bourbon as the man who helped start what eventually became Suntory (and started what is now Nikka) was trained on Distilling in Scotland. The color difference comes from the barrels, as bourbon by law has to be aged in new oak barrels and most Japanese whisky is aged in used barrels (as is most scotch).
I have and enjoy bourbon, Irish and Japanese whiskeys. But I have always preferred Japanese whiskeys and when guests try it for the first time they also enjoy it very much due to how drinkable it is. When you start getting to the 12 and 24 year old batches, those get incredibly more fragrant and potent but also so easy to drink. Glad to see they’ve enjoyed them as well.
Hilarious that seamus brought up how he says "smooth" because i went out and for the first time ever bought a bottle of whiskey (jameson stout edition, thanks toyou guys for the review) and upon drinking it, i said "oh that's smood..." LOL
I just have to say it. Justine is wearing the ultimate Irish Tee shirt. Lol! Great video guys. I always like these shoots. I do actually learn a lot from them.
The Japanese whiskeys are definitely getting better and the regulations for their production should improve both the quality and reputation. As for American bourbon, I believe the majority of people that drink it eventually prefer the higher proof products with an older age statement. I think the top production American bourbons out class the majority of world whiskeys, because international spirits of higher quality haven't been promoted as well outside their own individual regions.
I remember drinking Suntory Whiskey some 20-odd years ago when I lived in Japan and not liking it at all. But I'd heard in recent years that Japanese whiskeys had improved a lot and now, watching Lolsy and Justine, I'm going to give a couple of these a try. Also want to give that Bomberger's Declaration a try, as well. For science.
@@antduude a decent Japanese whiskey that I've had is Suntory Hibiki and is well worth trying if you can find it. I still lean towards bourbons and Irish whiskey (Redbreast 12 cask strength is well worth hunting for).
Japanese whiskey tends to taste a lot like scotch as most of it is made in the same fashion. Bourbon tends to be a much sweeter taste and not as smokey (with some exceptions like the Knobb). It doesn't surprise me that the Japanese came out on top as the tryers tend to enjoy smokey flavors more. That being said the Japanese are very consistent in their booze and don't make anywhere near as many terrible liquors like we here in the states do. Jim Bean and Jack Daniels will just as easily set you against American whiskey, as Jose Ceurvo will turn you against tequila. Gotta stick to the good stuff which you did a good job of in this video. Well done. Cheers!
Ninety-five percent of the world’s bourbon is produced in Kentucky. On its way to becoming bourbon, Kentucky’s water flows through limestone reserves - the same mineral said to make our horses grow stronger. Along with our ideal climate and fertile soil for growing corn and other ingredients, you’ve got yourself the perfect conditions for bourbon-making.
This isn't the first time you folks have had fun with the "knob" in Knob Creek. In eastern Kentucky/eastern Tennessee, a knob is a round hill, which is often viewed as a landmark, and they're named. examples: Siler's Knob. Rainwater Knob.
To be more specific, Japanese whiskies tend to be more similar to Highland Scotch, not Islay/Highly Peated Scotch. Scotch varies SO much in flavour depending on the region. Irish whiskies all have a similar profile, which is again those honey, pear, apple, vanilla fruit notes - similar to Highland Scotch, but with a touch of smoke. That's why mate in the video likes Japanese and Irish whiskies. He likes Bourbon next because it has more sweeter notes akin to Highland/Japanese whisky. He put Scotch last likely because he's often only tried Islay or highly peated Scotches.
Y’all need to get all the TRYers that enjoy the stronger tasting stuff and have them try some barrel proof / over proof bourbons / whiskeys. I bet they’d love it.
Watching Lolsy and Justine is like watching a before and after of Justine's whiskey evolution
Precisely what I was thinking lol
wasted booze at this table
The irony of watching Irish people going down the whiskey rabbit hole is not lost on me.
Ii love these two women together ❤.
This is the dream team
Seeing Justine drink whiskey so casually now is such a joy😂😂
Or possibly time for an intervention.
Seeing Justine is such a joy 😂😂
Justine: "I've missed this (Lolsy's facial expressions 😜). I've missed this so much." So have we all, Justine. So have we all.
LOLSY'S BAAAAACK! So happy to see her smiling face and with Justine to boot! Made my day seeing these ladies again!!!
Nice to have Lolsy back where she belongs...with her feet in Ireland and her lovely, expressive face on our computer screens.
A very expressive face. I've missed her presence.
Nice and cozy on incognito mode.
Belong? What kind of yearning is that?
Omg I just love that woman. I laugh soooo much when she’s on
Expressive face and I loved watching her speak Norwegian! Many talents
Lolsy's facial expressions are just to die for. Also, I may have died a bit when Justine made the "bullet" reference. And blushed.
Ahhh Lolsy. Can't wait for the shudders and face pulls from the whisky. Such a sweet lady with such a fiery attitude.
Over the years, it seems the Irish ladies burp/belch more than the men. Lena and Lolsy would be a perfect pairing. Or maybe its just the clever TRY editing 😝
Love watching Lolsy and Justine together. Also Seamus and Martin. Great back and forth with all.
Check out Seamus' cover tunes album "Smood Operator" available wherever whiskey is sold in Ireland.
Lolsy and Justine back again. Life doesn’t get better.
Ohhh geez Lolsy + Justine + Alcohol!
Justine and Lolsy… The combination we didn’t knew we needed.
The face expression mix we want to see during durian shoot ;D

Not real common here n many place in the US either.

Many Japanese whiskeys are actually scotch from Scotland aged in Japan.
A great sipping whiskey to try is Yamazaki 12 year.
I just love watching Lolsy make those faces!! They are such a joy and make each video that much better just by being involved.
Great pairings. Oh to spend an afternoon with Justine and Lolsy. You'd laugh yourself senseless.
The color comes from the charring of the wood. The bourbon is almost always going to be darker because bourbon is kept in newly charred barrels, whereas Japanese (like Scotch) traditionally goes into spent barrels.
By law, it must be >50% corn whiskey and aged in charred white oak barrels to be called Bourbon. That dark rosey color is a defining characteristic.

I disagree. I think Japanese whisky is very, very close (nigh indistinguishable ) from Scotch. Then comes Irish whiskey, then rye, then bourbon.
