I think it’s awesome you are sharing this info! So many people are afraid to share how they get started in business. Videos like this show you have a great mindset!
I totally understand why people don't like sharing info, but I also truly believe that there is enough room for everyone and enough business for everyone. I love sharing because I know how hard it was for me when I first started and I want to make things easier for others who really want to start a shop. Thank you so much for watching! :)
YAY! Browsing videos about supplies for sticker shops - and found this! I asked on a more recent video of yours, and now I found this! YAY!!! LOTS to add to my list to look into and save money for!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been going back and forth in deciding on if I want to open a sticker shop but have been feeling a bit discuraged becasue there are so many great shops out there. Your video made me feel like there's room for me and so many others and our contributions are welcomed in this community!
There is definitely room for you and others! I hope you are able to start your shop soon! I would love to check it out when you get it started! Thank you so much for watching my video. :)
Thank you so much, the question that I did not have you answered. I'm using online labels for my sticker shop and I really do like their paper. I have a Cameo 3
Thank you so much for sharing. I have used some of these sites but you mentioned several I had not heard of before. Just subbed and am looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Dear Rachel, you are so awesome!!!! all of this information is what I really need as I am still doing research what I should do to start the sticker shop. Thank you soo much...
Thanks so much! This is the info I have been waiting for! So many people won’t share what you did!! I would love you to share the software and give us some lessons!!😘
I use the Silhouette Studio to design! I also have a few sticker tutorials on my channel if you want to check them out. I am planning on doing more soon! Thank you so much for watching!
New subbie 🤗, I just open my Etsy shop and your videos are so helpful. You are amazing thanks for alll the info. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️.
Where do you get the small sheets of stickers paper for kits? I’m trying to figure out how to get those. Also do you know anything about outsourcing for the printing and cutting?
I get all of my paper from the places I mentioned in the video. I have my machines cut them down to smaller sheets. :) I don't outsource anything, so I'm no help with that.
Thanks for the video. It was great to watch and inspirational. I would like to make stickers but I am totally confused with the sizes. I have googled loads of pages but they all seem to say a different size. I look on the Erin Condren site and they seem to have loads of different planner books. Can you advise me where to start please?
I would start with just one planner. The EC vertical seems to be the most popular one. I would start with that planner. I use digital calipers to measure my planners.
@@RachelDenise thanks Rachel. I don't actually own a planner. I shall have to go out and buy one. 1.5" seems to be the standard width with various heights depending in what type of sticker.
I’ve had a hard time sizing my planner stickers, specifically the big Washi for the top and bottom of the Erin condren vertical planner. I’ve tweaked, printed, laid it down, and tried again. Can you please tell me what sizes you use for the Washi, the thick and thin for left and right sides?
Rachel Denise I have a question for you if you don’t mind answering for me .. what type of business do I need to sign up for to sell on Etsy ? I’ve done some research but I’m still confused about it . Please give me a idea if you have time to answer . Thanks !
Thanks so much for sharing! Have you made a video on Commercial Licenses? I'm so confused with the Unlimited vs. 500 options! Like if I use a font in one kit multiple times is it considered using it once? And can I only sell that kit a small number of times? Would really appreciate a video on that!
I’ll try to do some type of video on that! I always just try to stick with unlimited because it can be confusing and different sites have different restrictions when it comes to what 500 uses means. Thank you so much for watching my video!
I realize this video is a year old, so I'm hoping you'll see this! 😂 Was so excited to find this video and am anxious to watch the rest of the series! One thing I'm dying to know is how shops do the photo kits... Where do they get the photos? How do they afford the commercial licensing fees? Based on my limited research, I can't figure out how it's being done legally and not breaking the bank! Also, how many hours/week would you say you put in? I'm a homeschooling mama, but absolutely love designing and creating on the silhouette. Just trying to judge if I'd actually have the time to do this successfully. Thanks! 😊
I actually just uploaded a new video all about clipart, photos, and fonts. As far as the commercial licenses, each art shop on Etsy has their own terms and prices. A lot of them are very affordable. If you are talking about things like Disney clipart, I’m not sure any of that is legal. Lol. But just art from Etsy clip art shops... they are affordable and legal to use. I work my shop full time, but my situation is very different from most. You could probably work 5-8 hours a week and still run a successful shop. Depending on your definition of success. Hope this helps!
@@RachelDenise I'm sorry...I meant the commercial licensing for the photo kit pictures specifically (such as your beautiful spring kit with the animals 🥰). I know many places (such as Shutterstock, iphoto, adobe, etc.) have the "standard" license and then there is commercial licensing for use in print/magazine media and website use... but my understanding is that in order to use the photos commercially in products you plan to sell that this is a different commercial license and I can't figure out how shops are able to afford to make kits and earn a profit this way because the licensing is crazy expensive. Am I misunderstanding something/ missing something? I absolutley LOVE the look of photo kits and have so many great ideas but not at the prices I'm seeing. Which makes me think I'm missing something. 😂🤷♀️
Hi Rachel I am in the beginning stages of starting a shop. Do you think it is a good plan to start small like jyst script stickers and clipart/ event stickers rather than a full kit until I get the hang of making them?
I think that is totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with! I started with kits, but I know other shops started with single sheets. My thought is that you are probably always going to be changing your kits and making them better, so you shouldn't wait to sell kits until they are perfect because they will never be 100% perfect. Hopefully that makes sense. I have changed my kits so many times since I opened four years ago and I know that I will continue to change them because my style is always changing. So don't let the fear of your kits not being perfect stop you from putting them out there. :) But of course, I think you should do what you feel most comfortable with. Thank you so much for watching my video! I hope that it was able to help you with your shop. Also, please let me know when you open because I would love to check out your shop!
My sheets come in a few different sizes and I don’t have a certain measurement that I use. I will create the stickers and then draw a box around them. Lol.
You would definitely need some sort of license or agreement with the companies to do this. I feel like most shops do this without (I can't say 100% for sure, but I know a lot of people get in trouble, so I can only assume they don't), but I would never recommend it. I just try to stay away from any copyrighted material to avoid any issues. :)
@@RachelDenise Thank you. I always thought it was weird to see so many sticker shops with copyrighted material, but glad to know that its not ok to make and sell.
This is super helpful ! Glad I found your channel. Just out of curiosity, is running your sticker shop your full time job ? Always wondered if it would be sustainable enough on its own or if it was more for extra income, thanks in advance ❤️
It is my full time job, but we don't rely on my income because my husband has a really good job, so it's not always a full time income if that makes sense. I know a lot of shop who completely support their families with their shops though, so it is possible! So to answer your question, this is the only thing I do for work, but it also just extra income. :)
Rachel Denise Thankyou for the honest reply! I was just genuinely curious if it’s sustainable long term 😊 researching things I could possibly start as side income that could potentially become full time in the future if I want to slow down in my career as it’s very full on !
Nice content. Thanks for sharing it. May I ask which software you work with? Especially for designing your stickers? Maybe you could make a video all about software. That would be awesome. Greetings from Germany, Anni
Great video! I'd like to know how do you link the silhouette machines? I've seen them linked so they all cut simultaneously. Also, what do you use to edit your TH-cam vids?
