- Tweek and Nairo are 2 top players pushing the Sephiroth meta with extremely differing play styles. This video analysis takes a short, quick look at some things I've picked out from both their play styles as well as some commonalities they share using Sephiroth in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
Additionally, it goes without saying that the footage used is from their streams playing online, so take this analysis with a grain of salt as I’m sure offline they play somewhat different.

@@neurosis51 Yep. OG Sephiroth is always on the move and maintains his distance, forcing Cloud to chase after him. Whenever Cloud gets in close, it's only because Sephiroth let him approach, knowing that he's frame trapped him to hell and back. Comes with 2-frame reads so hard he's an erudite scholar of the Lifestream.
Meanwhile, Remake Sephiroth's pressure game is on point. Never gives Cloud any breathing room and fakes him out at every opportunity. Heck, he even grabs and "pummels" Cloud in that one scene when the guy whiffs his attack on that doorframe.

Tweek goes for more safe but optimal play, while nairo seems to push his advantage state to the edge, literally

@@RampioreRegis I also don't think it would be healthy for his mindset to be in tournaments again after what happened. Right now, streaming and getting his life back should be his priority, and that's what he's doing. Just want him to be happy again.
It’s cool seeing Sephiroth’s meta being pushed by them. Since they both have such different play styles, we’re seeing more of what this character can do. I love watching both of their Sephys and applying it to my doodoo Sephiroth.

There aren’t a whole lot of top players that use the same character
There are a lot of warios and shulks (I think rob as well) but they don’t have the same kind of flexibility

True. I think it's an amazing idea to compare different play styles. It's fun to see the many sides of characters. I do wish more people did it.
Examples would be:
Fatality v.s NickC (Falcon)
Mkleo v.s. Zackray (Joker)
Void v.s. Sharp (Sheik)
Dabuz v.s. Shuton (Olimar)
etc...just throwing out ideas

Nairos ability to play aggressive and rush advantages while playing more safe/patient characters like Seph and Palu is insane. Both Nairo and Tweek offer so much to learn

I personally think Tweek's interpretation of the character is going to be the more prevalent playstyle, considering that Ultimate is a game with a lot of defensive options and Sephiroth is a character best played when not having to risk blind spots with his swings.
It makes sense that Nairo would play a more active game given that he has that experience with other characters and isn't competing, therefore he isn't under the same pressure to play slowly.
I love how Nairo can make Sephiroth look like the only character that is not in disadvantage when on the ledge

Ok but like, ledge really isn’t all that bad for Sephiroth. It’s honestly terrifying how well Sephiroth can get off ledge. Makes his disadvantage absurdly good.
Tweek plays a more traditional safe Sephiroth but Nairo plays hyper-aggressive. Straight up two sides of the same coin, it's really cool how one characters playstyle can change so much based on who plays them
Yeah agreed. To add to that, I've found that Nairo has picked up on being a more traditional bait and punish, especially with base Seph. With OWA he just goes hard lol

Im currently learning Sephiroth and my style has become a blend of the two! I usually start matches playing a similar style to Tweek and then once the opponent catches on, I switch it up and play more aggressive, similar to Nairo. I definitely hope to master the character, so thanks for posting these vids, Shoxas!

very interesting to see, love both of these playstyles so much the sephiroth meta is in an exciting place right now there are so many things to pick and choose from when developing your own style with the character i love tweeks use of blade dash you can literally go off stage to edgeguard and blade dash back to ledge/ roll distance to get a ledgetrap its insanely good

i’ll say Nairo is better, because he managed to improve the sephiroth with just a single live stream, also it’s more exciting to watch, witch is a plus in my book :p
Tweeks sephiroth is so much cleaner. The pressure of always knowing when to shadow flare and connect hits after they go off is insane. Nairos great and added a new perspective to the character but tweeks seph is way better imo
I don’t want to be that guy, but can’t they both be as good in different ways? Like I actually think they might be evenly matched with how attuned they are to their own playstyles. I guess maybe nairo would be better because he’s more aggressive? But I mean that Tweek shadow flare pressure can really add up over time.
@CriticalCrisis it's hard to tell if nairo's seph is better just because he's said on stream there are many things he can do but opts not to in order to figure out other options to deal with specific situations. I agree with your thoughts of clean doesn't mean better, but from what I've seen so far, I think tweek applies safe pressure better via shadow flares. Super low risk, high reward psychologically. Tweeks out to destroy his opponents mentally and stay one step ahead and does so with less laggy options than nairo. On paper, it'd make sense that tweeks is better. I'm sure he's looking to add some things to is seph that nairo does too. All I know for sure is northeast swt is gonna be hype with those two

Tweek’s run-away style which he plays with everyone lost to Mkleo.
While Nairo’s advantage-state style beat Leo. Nairo has gotten spiked twice in a set for it though. Otherwise, having a amazing advantage state is what separates the best players in every fighting game usually.
I think in a set of 3, having a insane advantage state is better.

Yes what Mail said. Tweek loves just moving with/around you, keeping his distance or sometimes just literally doing nothing. He's just waiting to capitalize on an opening.

I love using flare b reverses and f-air wall cling
up-b is very fun to use and very flexible
shadow flare is fast covers a lot of space, from far away, this option is very safe
pushing advantage while keeping a fair distance away for the sword to cover
Their playstyles are fun to watch
nairo is a little more aggressive with it and tweek goes for more defensive and technical plays

Top players are so sick. It’s cool that even a game like ultimate, with fairly limited movement options, the same character can be played successfully in many different ways

It just seems like nairo plays with more confidence, which is strange because apparently he thinks this character is pretty mediocre, but he plays as if seph is the best character in the game
