I love the group I play with, and they're all very capable in haz 5p4, but some of them are the type to, say, c4 an oppressor and then burst it down with 3 mags of FSD crispr. You're right, it's absolutely hilarious. I'm the guy in the group who "knows everything about the game" even though I'm probably one of the least skilled players out of all of us. Doesn't matter how many times I tell them oppressors are weak to melee and resist explosive and fire damage, or that frozen enemies don't take triple explosive damage, c4 is their solution to whatever single target problems they encounter. (Use your axes and power attacks, guys!!) As an avid driller enjoyer myself, I disagree with you that c4 shouldn't be used in combat. In fact, I almost exclusively use it in combat. I can terraform with my drills and epc. Outside of cryo + axes, nothing in driller's kit is better at praet killing than a good old satchel charge, especially when there's 2 or more in close proximity. It's also pretty damn good cc in a pinch with t4 stun; the stun radius is absolutely insane. If drillers are routinely killing teammates with c4 in combat, I'd say their situational awareness needs some improvement. Now, everything I just wrote pretty much only applies to vanilla, I would imagine. I don't have access to modded difficulties (console scrub), but I can definitely see how max ammo t4 carve becomes much more valuable for bunkers and whatnot with increased enemy stats and densities.
Definitely okay to disagree with me there! C4 can be valuable in combat on occasion though I happen to find that occasion to not happen all that often in vanilla. While drillhands and TCF can shape terrain, a single max carve c4 does something so powerful due to the sheer size and speed of that clear. The other forms I find to be much too slow, especially going into modded where the bugs come fast and hard. I find that carve c4's access to stun and its damage already being enough means that speccing it towards carve is just pure upside - at least for my own playstyle. @Rodders_ is a fellow modded player I'd like to shout out, since they are quite a fan of C4 in combat. Lots of their uploads use the stun in particular to do things like make safer resups or buy breathing room. It's definitely strong and I don't want to spread misinformation here. It's just... I find the risks to be much too high in multiplayer pubs with randoms. With friends it's totally fine, especially since you can get comfortable with their rhythms and spacing habits that you'll probably know better times to use it without any wandering dwarf incidents. In pubs with people I've never played with before, it's just too chaotic. People move in mysterious ways and even if you're off by yourself a scout will randomly grapple into it for absolutely no reason (like a moth to the flame). The only time I use combat C4s in pubs is when I'm far away, and I always check player locations first to know if it's safe. Which unfortunately means theres a delay in between fast detonations and overall that tends to lower effectiveness. The additional checks does make it less likely to have any accidents however. I just want to mention one thing about praetorians: I don't value killing praets quickly all that highly anymore. Maybe this is the scout player in me after a lifetime of bullying praets, but they move so slow and if they spit badly you can interrupt with an axe and stop any of that. Going further, they're very easily feared by jumping on their back and drilling off their armor plates if you're low on axes. The damage over time is more than enough, and if you're on any sort of fire loadout having an alive ignited praet nearby is usually a good thing! Oppressors on the other hand are an enemy I'd love to c4 burst down, because they can often lock down an area much more dangerously without any of that counterplay. But of course: explosive resist. I still think c4 is best in area clear but I do see some upsides to the other playstyles. I think it's another thing like fear m1000 vs. stun m1000. Both are viable, but based on my own past experiences I tend to value one line a bit more.
Unironically the best thing that could have happened there. I bet I would need to spend an iron will if the friendly elevator operator wasn't around for the lift!
Here's the updated iota v4 if you'd like to play along!

Didn’t pick up Doretta’s head, 0/10.
I considered making a c4 pit and tossing her down there, but I was afraid that would expose my true feelings about dottie :-)
