A more private bamboo forest - as in a forest for yourself - can be found at Fushimi Inari. Just go up the normal way to the point where the torii covered path splits to up and down and instead of up, turn right, away from the tourists. Just follow the path circling the mountain through a small farmers village and some cemeteries and later up the mountain where you reconnect with the official route. Amazing and quiet, this alternative way up…
I think there are actually 2 different trains going to Arashiyama. One of them feels pretty small, going through the neighbourhood right next to ppls houses and such. Thats the one I've been using every time I went there.
Me and my boyfriend went early in the morning to the bamboo forest and it was such a treat. There were less than 10 people there and it was so beautiful and peaceful. We also had a very yummy vegan Japanese meal at a small restaurant run by an elderly man and his wife.
11:35 I took a little trolley train when leaving Arashiyama, I remember it acutely since it was this little train that slipped through people's back yards. From a Canadian perspective I can't imagine having a little bus sized trolley roll by your back garden. I followed my Japanese friend who had it figured out so I couldn't tell you much about where it was specifically.
@@kydeanderic Yep it does, it got me back via a subway connection to my ryokan in the central area of the city. I wish we had little trolleys like that where I am. It was cute and fun.
Randen. It’s a little tram style railway like Toden or Enoden in the Tokyo area. The Arashiyama line goes from sort of the center of the city out to Arashiyama. I often take Randen out to Arashiyama because it’s a fun ride. It’s not fast though. There is also a JR line that goes out to Arashiyama from Kyoto Station, and a Hankyu line that goes there too.
Great video. I also use peak design straps and I am going to steal your idea for connecting the camera body to the bag strap. Good luck with your move, i saw part of your licence stream, the house looks great.
I've seen kaarage thrown back in oil to be refried so it is crispy, but that is usually at like festival stalls. I use to know Kyoto-Yodobashi pretty intimately. It's my favorite store in the world. I wish it had a secret entrance from the train platform like Bic-camera does across the street. But you can just access it from the Cube in the basement.
Very enjoyable video! I REALLY appreciate that you include weather comments. It engages me in the video...so much so that I felt like having a bowl of steaming soup after watching. 😄🥣

Augh. You're bringing back great memories of staying in our favorite corner of Kyoto and, quite possibly, the world. Managed to snag a budget stay at a hotel just around the corner from those woods; was only a 5-10 min walk into the heart of all that bamboo. I've never felt so relaxed and at peace at any time in my life. Added bonus: it was only a short train ride south to Suntory's Yamazaki Distillery...managed to sample whiskies there that have since absolutely exploded in cost, to the point where I'll likely never taste them again.
If you go to Arashiyama please consider to take a trip to Kameoka which is few miles higher and take the boat trip or take train to Hozuko and take a hike backwards to Kyoto.
Stayed a few days in Kyoto in 2016 outside of the touristy areas (because cheaper), lots of boulevards, busy roads and not so charming apartment buidings.
