learning tip: once you feel a bit more comfortable with the writing systems, i recommend rewriting japanese songs using hiragana, and then entirely in katakana! (i know this is not how the alphabets are used, but it is a great practice to mix up all of the characters instead of writing them grouped like ka ke ki ko ku); i opened up bts songs in japanese in romaji and then rewrote the songs with hiragana/katakana to practice this is just what I did before i did my japanese degree to learn the alphabets in a quick and also fun way ^^
Came here to say this too! It's how I mastered Kana. I would print lyrics to songs I liked in Romaji, then rewrite them in each system. Really drove the kana into my brain.
Oooohhh that’s a great idea, thank you for sharing! Once I get back into japanese I’ll definitely try it! Ironically I felt like I had more trouble recalling katakana than the hundred or so kanji I learnt before taking a break which is still ongoing hah
tip for genki: memorize the dialogue at the beginning of each chapter!! my professor made us do that and recite it to the whole class, it was scary but actually helpful to feel like you can speak coherent sentences
oh yea, in my class we don't use genki, but we have dialogues as well and we don't have to learn it but we do read it in front of the class, still train to read and speak!
Hi~! I'm majoring in Japanese and I'd like to say - since you already know Korean, I think it will be easier for you to study Japanese My teachers often say that the grammar is similar, so if you just get through kana and kanji, you should be fine Also, some of the words are very similar as well! Good luck with studying!
Hello! Im new to japanese and I have a question. What does あの means? In translator it says "that" but in other learning app it means excuse me. How to find out which one is the right one?
@@Pinz12 hi! You can think of あの like an abbreviation of あれの Basically, あの is a pre-noun adjective, so it stands before a noun, not alone Like in あの店(みせ)は安(やす)いです。 In this context, it points out the specific object out of all the other ones As for あの used as filler word - is used alone, context of the following sentence may be completely different to pointing out an object, at that time it could be used as "excuse me/sorry" Also, some people stretch out their あの while thinking, so it sounds almost like a あのう, at that time, it's used as "ummm" I think it will be easy to distinguish them when you listen to it directly I'm terrible at explaining but I hope it makes sense 🥰 Good luck with studying! 一緒(いっしょ)に頑張(がんば)りましょう 🤗
There's a guy (ToKini Andy) on TH-cam that does a series going through the Genki books, and he explains when textbook Japanese is unatural sounding and what to use instead, he does a video per Genki lesson. Worth a look! How funny that I just started thinking of learning Japanese, I remember finding your channel when I was (still am) learning Korean lol
Tip as someone who just started learning Japanese 45 days ago!! Busuu is superior to duo. Duolingo drove me insane 😅Busuu teaches you using the pronounciation of actual Japanese speakers, rather than a computer. I love the style of learning, and you can correct and interact with others either speaking the language you are learning or your own language
@@anonykitsune ive used memrise before, i agree it is VERY good! i only did it for a bit since i got logged out and was busy at the time, but it is amazing! i believe my dad actually knows the person who built the company (i think, im not 100% sure on it!), but thats how ik about it! :) still it is a very good app/website.

Tips to learn Japanese more efficiently: - Do NOT attempt to learn more than one language at once. If in doubt, learn the one that you're most interested in. - Repeat every letter/word/sentence out loud to get a closer pronunciation (tip from Teuida). - Avoid trying to learn everything at one sitting to prevent yourself from forgetting words. - Try to memorize kana/kanji stroke order for more efficient writing. - If you feel unmotivated and/or tired, take a break and proceed your learning after a while and remember: you can do it! - Watch anime and practice singing in Japanese. They will help you to increase your vocabulary. - Try not to skip the difficult parts of learning. They may be essential. - Get yourself a partner conversation or use Teuida! - Use your Japanese knowledge in daily occasions (Example: whenever you're going upstairs, count every step in Japanese). - After finishing your studying session, write out everything you have learned so far, physically (pencil and paper) or virtually (note pad app on phone/computer) - Keep watching this video as many times as possible for days or weeks. It is not possible to learn everything in a few moments. Now, I wish you, the reader, a very happy learning, do not give up and give it your all! がんばってください! 💪✌️
Hey, I know this might sound like a stupid question but, when learning Japanese have you learned how to translate it to English? I'm starting to practice Japanese but I don't know if I will learn to translate it in English ( as in reading it then understanding it in your own language)
Learning Japanese is so much fun! It just feels super rewarding when you start recognizing words and understanding sentences in Japanese media, be it anime, mange, music, whatever. It's great!
i studied korean for 4 years in university and have really bad burn out now. it’s really fun to watch these study videos,, it kinda makes me want to study language again so thank you! i started studying japanese this year too but haven’t taken it really seriously in order to not end up uhhhh hating it haha

I've been learning italian but I also have thought of learning Japanese because I like the sound of the language and I like learning languages. So today I have decided I want to learn Japanese. I love italian but Japanese has caught my attention. I look forward to this new journey and language learning is so much fun.
Hi ! Love your videos, I’ve been studying Japanese for about 5 months now and one advice I can give you is to write down words only in katakana| hiragana and then the translation in English (without the romaji transliteration). It really helped me getting into the new writing system thing. You kinda force your brain to read them and slowly you’ll read fluently !
Nina's contagious smile gives a, “I am overflowing with good vibes”, mood where her brain leads me to believe I may grasp more than I am learning at each and every moment....Already sharing a struggle and want to continue reading
Oh I love the genki books!! I used them when I took Japanese in community college it was really helpful for practicing writing and syntax. And it’s awesome because there’s videos and answer keys online to test your knowledge!! I will say though for people who are learning by their own structure and not in class, some people find it to be a bit complicated but don’t give up! There’s a strong online presence with genki and there’s people there to help :)
Nice! I took a semester class in college and we used the same genki textbook/workbook. I stopped studying after the class but recently decided to go back and go over my notes. Thanks for the video and motivation to continue studying! 😊💕
You did so well! I still know how hard it was to start learning Japanese (especially remembering the kanji!). Genki is an excellent textbook series! I'm looking forward to more videos about your Japanese study journey :)
My queen 👑 I really really love that you don't complain about "how hard is it" like every other people on TH-cam that positive energy from you and how simple and easy you make it look like that what I need to keep going love you so much
I’ve been learning Japanese and Korean together for a couple months now! I definitely see some similarities with grammar and I think you’re going to love Japanese! You’re handwriting is much better than mine admittedly it looks so pretty! 화이팅!
I found it helpful to go from Korean to Japanese when I was trying to learn it. It made more sense than trying to convert it from English for me. Either way, best of luck and keep it up.
Watching this is so funny because this is exactly how I felt when I first started learning Japanese back in high school. Its also interesting seeing you make connections between Korean and Japanese because I did that a lot when I started learning Korean last year, since I had a good foundation in Japanese and its grammar, it was really easy for me to pick up Korean grammar and even some vocab! Also thank you for putting out this video and motivating me to catch back up with Japanese because I have a research project in Japanese this summer I need to work on for uni lmao.
i always come back to your videos and fall in love with them over and over again, tbh i feel like these type of videos aren’t my aesthetic at all but i love them so much and they motivate me to try new things, thank you Nina.
A good book/s is remembering the kana and remembering the Kanji. When I was learning kana, Remembering The Kana really helped me. Because it gives you mnemonics to help it get retained in your memory. And also Remembering The Kanji also does that, but with Kanji. They are both really useful, or at least for how my brain works
Not Nina getting me to learn Korean before Japanese without huge arguments. Ma'am you are impressive, you sold me! I'm on a 4 day streak on Duolingo. Also thanks for showing the breakdowns in the Duolingo app I never knew what all the options at the bottom were for with learning. 😂❤❤
Along with the individual characters, learning the dakuten (が), handakuten (パ), and the digraphs (きょ) was very helpful for me. Like, while i was learning the k column, i included the g column.
Terrific video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.
this video came out at such a good time i’m half japanese and it gets really hard this was the perfect motivation for me to keep studying for my test next week haha
I’m learning Chinese (basically kanji) and just memorize a few words everyday and look at song lyrics and play the song cause you’ll be able to see the words you learned being used in songs and you can look for new words to learn that way to
Nina, studying Japanese? Gotta watch it! Nina, doing her make-up? Gotta watch it! Nina, just watching anime and chilling? Gotta watch it! Nina, just living? Gotta watch it! Nina has a new video? Always gotta watch it! Fr Nina, you make our days! And whenever I see the notification, I literally say "Yay" out loud. So whenever your feeling down, think that your viewers do possibly too, and the view-numbers are not just numbers, but real people watching you; and your videos may help them!
You just got a new sub. I've been trying to learn Japanese. I had the privilege to travel there from the end of April to the beginning of May. Made me want to learn the language even more. I'm definitely going to use these tips in my studies.
one thing I recommend is children's songs! I've been learning Japanese for the longest but I always go back to the songs to help with the little things like colors, days, etc!
i’ve been learning for 4 years, and something about seeing other people start their jp journey makes me feel like some old elder looking over the young ones. gl with ur study journey! 頑張る💪😤日本語は難しでも、つづきお願い!
I also learn Japanese, but since I was young I have loved it and have already learned some basic sentences such as ~ How are you? Are you well? What is your name How old are you? Where are we?.....and many more, and I wish you success in learning them. Additional information: I am an Arab girl and I learned English and Japanese a while ago
Sticky dry erase posters were a go to for me. They are the size of piece of paper. A little thicker than paper. They can stick to anything. Then get dry erase markers and a microfiber cloth. It was great for practicing.
I've been studying Japanese for a year now. seeing you struggle made me remember how frustrated I used to be and I felt like I wasn't making progress. but now all the stuff from the start, like hiragana and katakana, feels so easy haha. ganbatte
This video was so fun to watch. I learned Japanese a few years ago it was fun. I took a class at my school. Recently I've been wanting to learn it again. Thank you for sharing all your resources. I'll have to learn the basics again because I dont remember a lot. I still remember a bit of Hiragana but no Katakana. Hieagana is easier to memorize because of pneumonic devices.
i can read hiragana and katakana perfectly but writing sentences is still hard for me bc of the way the words are placed and the particles u need to use, also idk many words so although i can read a lot of times I have difficulty actually understanding it 😅 that has been especially hard for me recently, loved the video
Learning Japanese right now, hiragana, katakana and kanji aren’t that hard for me (as kanji is mostly what I use in daily life🇭🇰), but grammar tho! Grammar struggles me a lot, my goal here is to finish N2 in two years and continue my study after high school in Japan
Hello Nina, thank you for your videos! I'm so calm when I listening you and do my work at the same time~💪💕 Thanks for give me a good advice, an energy, a good vibes and anything that make me happy, Love you🙆🏻♀️💘✨
Good luck with your studies. Im not particularly gifted when it comes to language learning but ive been chipping away at Japanese for the past teo years now and I've really enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing - the manga for Yona of the dawn is amazing - still one of my favorites till this day - will definitely try some of these study tips
I've been tempted to study japanese this past week. I used to study japanese and mandarin chinese (just the basics) but I stopped to focus on korean. I love your study videos and good luck!❤
I also have started learning Japanese a month ago for a Japan exchange I am doing this summer. Looking forward for you studying with the Genki textbooks so I‘ll know if they are worth it😂😂 Love your videos!
I recently got into Anime a whole new world has opened up to me I'm learning so much from the Japanese culture in general. This was a great video thank you p.s. that's a quality pen you write with 🖋️
as native Japanese speaker, it’s so difficult to understand this language technically. But I can say Japanese literally like foreigner who learns it😘❤️❤️
If you are okay with anime suggestions, and if you like watching music anime, then I would like to suggest Bocchi the Rock. It's such a phenomenal anime on social anxiety and music and it's honestly such a great watch. I'm also attempting to try and learn Japanese, so here's to us being able to watch anime without subtitles in the future!
日本から応援(おうえん)しています!いつも面白くて見るのを楽しみ(たのしみ)にしています!日本語は私たち日本人にとってもまだまだ知らないことばかりでとても難しいですが、日本語の表現はとても豊かで、美しく誇りを持っています。いつかになさんが日本に来てくれることを楽しみにしています。 it's so fun for me to watch your videos 'cause so energetic and so metivated!
i got a sudden urge to study japanese like a year ago and i got a bunch of apps and a textbook, got to level 11 in duolingo and then i realized that i don't really need japanese and i probably wont be able to travel to japan, so i stopped studying... but felt nice watching this vid, i was able to recognize all the exercises in duolingo. turns out i remember most of it? not surprised cuz i studied day and night... kinda made me wanna go back to studying, but i still need to improve my english AND i feel like trying korean again would be better cuz i consume lots of content in korean and that would be more useful, even if i don't get a chance to travel. understanding anime would've been nice as well, but i tend to watch it whilst multitasking, so watching it with subtitles is something i can't afford rn time-wise. oh, i also tried learning french on duolingo but failed cuz, once again, i figured i won't ever need it in life. but overall, reading in target language is definitely a top priority skill, so i'm glad it was mentioned. also now i wanna get a huge notebook like the one in the video (gonna ignore the fact that i already have like 10 half finished notebooks for korean lol)
wani kani is good for kanji. And there are many anki flashcard decks for vocab and wanikani (as its free upto level 3 so anki has some free decks for it)
From someone thats has been studying japanese for 2 years now I would recommend using japanes sub with Japanese dub on Japanese media and doing look up whe you see a word that looks familiar. it really helps you contextualize the context of most words

I’m learning Chinese (basically kanji) and just memorize a few words everyday and look at song lyrics and play the song cause you’ll be able to see the words you learned being used in songs and you can look for new words to learn that way to
This is so helpful especially since I haven't had much motivation, this has got me wanting to be more consistent and try harder, thank youu❤
Nina, studying Japanese? Gotta watch it!
Nina, doing her make-up? Gotta watch it!
Nina, just watching anime and chilling? Gotta watch it!
Nina, just living? Gotta watch it!
Nina has a new video? Always gotta watch it!
Fr Nina, you make our days! And whenever I see the notification, I literally say "Yay" out loud. So whenever your feeling down, think that your viewers do possibly too, and the view-numbers are not just numbers, but real people watching you; and your videos may help them!
ooooh i missed your studying videos !! i'm glad they're back they're how i discovered your channel 💞
You just got a new sub. I've been trying to learn Japanese. I had the privilege to travel there from the end of April to the beginning of May. Made me want to learn the language even more. I'm definitely going to use these tips in my studies.
when nina uploads it just makes me happy
one thing I recommend is children's songs!
You gave me confidence to learn and consentrate on Japanese
Thanks soo much.....❤😊
there is always a sort of comfort when watching your videos
Sticky dry erase posters were a go to for me. They are the size of piece of paper. A little thicker than paper. They can stick to anything. Then get dry erase markers and a microfiber cloth. It was great for practicing.
idk how to explain but watching u is sooooo comfortable
I've been studying Japanese for a year now. seeing you struggle made me remember how frustrated I used to be and I felt like I wasn't making progress. but now all the stuff from the start, like hiragana and katakana, feels so easy haha. ganbatte
so happy seeing u on the feed again 🫰🫰🫰🫰
YAYY I’ve been binge watching your videos again cause they feel like i’m on facetime, now i have another one to watch
Comfort person who keeps me sane
頑張りましょうね、日本語の習得には時間がかかります!

this video is so helpful for learning Japanese this is making my life easier like I got to know before I go
This video was so fun to watch.
Yaay! Another video from Nina!! Looks amazing. I'll check back when I'm done 😎🤟🏼
i’m from Japan, and i’m so glad that you learn Japanese☺️☺️☺️💕💕💕
I LOVE YOUR STATIONARYYY!!
日本のファンです❤️いつも動画を楽しく見ています〜!!日本語の勉強がんばってください😊応援しています📣!!
i can read hiragana and katakana perfectly but writing sentences is still hard for me bc of the way the words are placed and the particles u need to use, also idk many words so although i can read a lot of times I have difficulty actually understanding it 😅 that has been especially hard for me recently, loved the video
You finally started learning Japanese! ! I’m so glad to hear that because I’m Japanese😳
Ninaファイト!🎉
I've been tempted to study japanese this past week. I used to study japanese and mandarin chinese (just the basics) but I stopped to focus on korean. I love your study videos and good luck!❤
From Duolingo to Genki, what an improvement, good stuff.
こんにちは。いつも、楽しくみています!日本語の勉強の動画がでて、嬉しいです。これからも、楽しみにしています。
I also have started learning Japanese a month ago for a Japan exchange I am doing this summer. Looking forward for you studying with the Genki textbooks so I‘ll know if they are worth it😂😂 Love your videos!
another reminder for me to go study japanese again 🫡 i've been SLACKING
I recently got into Anime a whole new world has opened up to me I'm learning so much from the Japanese culture in general. This was a great video thank you p.s. that's a quality pen you write with 🖋️
Good Luck nina 💕
I'm giving up and then your video shows up 🤣 it is like a smash to bring me back to this painful journey lmaooo
as native Japanese speaker, it’s so difficult to understand this language technically.
I'm also attempting to try and learn Japanese, so here's to us being able to watch anime without subtitles in the future!
my family and i are planning a trip to japan and I've been procrastinating on learning it for the trip 😭😭 wish i could be as productive as you
日本から応援(おうえん)しています!いつも面白くて見るのを楽しみ(たのしみ)にしています!日本語は私たち日本人にとってもまだまだ知らないことばかりでとても難しいですが、日本語の表現はとても豊かで、美しく誇りを持っています。いつかになさんが日本に来てくれることを楽しみにしています。
it's so fun for me to watch your videos 'cause so energetic and so metivated!
wow, loved this video so much, you have motivated me to continue my Korean lessons🥰
My Japanese beginner class in uni uses the orange genki books!! The lessons and workbook exercises lineup rly well, so you should do fine!!
It's been a while since we had a study with Nina and I love this
i got a sudden urge to study japanese like a year ago and i got a bunch of apps and a textbook, got to level 11 in duolingo and then i realized that i don't really need japanese and i probably wont be able to travel to japan, so i stopped studying... but felt nice watching this vid, i was able to recognize all the exercises in duolingo. turns out i remember most of it? not surprised cuz i studied day and night... kinda made me wanna go back to studying, but i still need to improve my english AND i feel like trying korean again would be better cuz i consume lots of content in korean and that would be more useful, even if i don't get a chance to travel. understanding anime would've been nice as well, but i tend to watch it whilst multitasking, so watching it with subtitles is something i can't afford rn time-wise. oh, i also tried learning french on duolingo but failed cuz, once again, i figured i won't ever need it in life. but overall, reading in target language is definitely a top priority skill, so i'm glad it was mentioned.
also now i wanna get a huge notebook like the one in the video (gonna ignore the fact that i already have like 10 half finished notebooks for korean lol)
love these comforting vids ❤
Omg Im so excited ❤
Love you and your videos sm nina❤
wani kani is good for kanji. And there are many anki flashcard decks for vocab and wanikani (as its free upto level 3 so anki has some free decks for it)
This is perfect! Im in basically the same boat. I just bought the Geniki I book and have done some
Duolingo but i gave up on it
From someone thats has been studying japanese for 2 years now I would recommend using japanes sub with Japanese dub on Japanese media and doing look up whe you see a word that looks familiar. it really helps you contextualize the context of most words
I love Japanese! I biggest fan Japanese!❤❤❤❤
Look forward to following your progress. 頑張ってね!
