@MarcyRavenManji Mato shows some more variations but in a few of them when he claims "white is winning here" it is not clear how. Just saying "white is winning" is not enough if you can't really show where is a win. Agad at least shows it up to a position where you can see the win. For example position r1b1k1n1/6QR/p2bq1n1/3p1p2/8/2N2P2/PPP5/2KR4 w - - 1 5. It happens after white queen checks on g7 and king moves to e8. Mato stops at Qg7+ and says "white is winning here". Engine at depth 37 suggests N:d5 with +0.3 for white. It doesn't look like a win. Maybe there some stronger moves at depth 50, but I can't do it on my PC, so I can't see where it is winning and how and this is rather frustrating. And in a position 1rb2k2/R7/p1Bb2nn/3p1p2/8/2N2P2/PPP5/2K4R b - - 1 1 Mato suggests Rh1 and white is winning. Engine gives evaluation 0.0 (Depth 46 - I let the PC think for a while) and suggests black answer with Bc5 and so on. I am not that good as Stockfish at depth 40+. So when someone says "white is winning" and doesn't show the line to the end I can't imagine how exactly would it work. And even with Stockfish i can't find a win at the depth that I can get in reasonable time. P.S. Definitely needs a revisit.

By 2:50 after white moves his rook to threaten blacks queen, black can threaten whites queen with his knight ,either a queen trade or black moves queen to f6 where the knight just moved from, thus saving his queen only depending on what white takes black knight e4 with
I was thinking, instead of Qg6, Move the Knight to block the bishop, IF pawn takes the knight, then your pawn can retake and the white bishop is pinned to its queen by black rook and black queen has time to make an escape square if white doesn't force the queen exchange. I know you lose a knight, but this whole line was to show why capturing with the queen is bad, still the most accurate moves in the position should be the ones consider in order to refute it.

Koblencs had the same idea as Geller-Euwe 1953 in Zurich. He thought of the importance of trying to keep the queen out of play and getting chances for counterplay in the future. In his book 'Study Chess with Tal: Chess Tactics from the Grandmaster", he discussed his ideas during this game. In Koblencs' own words: ‘Now we should like to discuss a problem which has much to teach every practising player. As was correctly observed at the time, Black should simply play 22 … e7, but quite frankly, I did not think about this move - In a flash, the game Geller-Euwe, Zurich 1953, came to mind. Our brains work economically under such circumstances, so I did not remember every minute detail of the game, but rather the basic idea, which was to lure the opposing queen into one’s own camp and immobilise her or to divert her from the main scene of action... To come back to the game, I still do not regret that I neglected to take the “more sensible” way (22 … e7). The following highly interesting duel is yet more evidence of the inexhaustible beauty of the art of chess.’ From this point of view, it might have seemed to be a blunder under close analysis, since Tal definitely won the game. But it was rather due to Tal's beautiful combinations and extreme complications that he made afterwards that won him the game rather than Koblencs' Ng8 move. In anyway, it might've been really a blunder and Ke7 would've been better, but the reason that Tal got in to Koblencs' head is false. Reference: Tal, Mikhail. It's only $7.99. I have the kindle edition :) It's an excellent book! Each chapter contains tactical maneuvers employed by Tal himself, and there are close commentaries(positional evaluation and possible variations) on critical positions. The only problem is if you're not used to reading chess annotations, you'll have to stop once in a while to firmly grasp the analyses.

At 3:20 black plays (algebraic) E5 - G6 which I think relieves a lot of pressure and gives black a 1/2 move. If white brings his white bishop up to harass the knight, black doesn’t have to address that immediately as a recapture of the bishop creates a flight square (f7).
2:57 "You simply don't wanna play this position against Mikhail Tal" It could be said about some positions that black is up in material and can hold on the position but white has the initietive Actually, you don't wanna play this position against anyone. By the way the bishop could take the queen instead of Rdg1
Looks like they were enjoying themselves. Tal was Tal, no comparison. The commentary missed a lot in explanations. Such a shame. That real golden age of chess is unsurpassable now. Nothing can compete with the human imagination of that time, its breathtaking inspiration, and it's joys!
PLaying g6 immediately has an even more in depth reason alonng with a faster attack. the reason is to create the weakness in the safety of the king by creating weakness in the pawn structure. koblents has to take with h7 and then with g6 to avoid worsening his king safety. We can also see the subtlty in the move Rh1 after Ng6 attacks the rook. All the other other squares open up counter play for black. For eg, Rh5 opens a discovered attack on the rook once the Knight is removed from g6. With Rh3 opens anothe discovered attack on the rook after Pe5. All moves have so much more to it then what we saw. Also, Koblents probably defended really well till a point. But to play on the board must have been horrible.
In 1990 Tal said " I once discussed this with grandmaster Yefin Geller , and we generally agreed that in intuitive attacks there is a limit to the amount of material that can be sacrificed" he further said "And don't look at me like that: I have been an ex-World Champion for 30 years!"
Hi Agadmator, Thanks for sharing this beautiful game!! At 25... Rf7, if Black plays 25... Ng6 right away then it goes like this... 26. Nd4 Nxh8 27. Nxe6+ (forking king and queen) Kf7 28. Nxc7 (capturing queen) Rxc7 29. Rxg7+ and then Kf8 doesn't look that bad (don't you think) since 30. Rxc7+ (discovered check with bishop) Nxh6 and it seems black has bishop pair - a fair compensation for being down the exchange...
Also, another idea I'm dying to explore with stockfish - thanks for choosing this inspiring game by the way, is the situation at 5:30. I'm sure to be missing something because, the way I see it, once Tal's queen is trapped, instead of capturing immediately, Black can play an in-between move by moving his Queen to b7.
Yo, 3 years too late. bishopd7 takes rook. Next move for white is always bishop g7 takes pawn. If queen takes bishop, its either mate or free queen in 3. If knight takes queen, its convoluted but black king has very little moves. Sorry i can't speak positions, but if anyone needs, i can explain in detail.
@@stelixhyx808 After Bxg7+ White has no viable moves(zugzwang) which means you can stop the analysis. Also, it's a mating pattern difficult to be spotted for players under 2000 FIDE without machine assistance.
Havent seen the video yet but I am here for the piece sac and the amazing Captures Captures Captures 😂 I will be disappointed if I dont get any of these...
At 5:15, after Bb5, why couldn’t black capture with the pawn? Also, at 5:33 after Nd4, black would have certainly seen a fork coming and he would have prevented that as an in-between move before capturing white’s queen because that queen is anyway trapped so black could’ve just positioned himself in a way to save any attack on its queen and king before capturing white queen. I am still at this moment, so would be good if you can explain these points?
Finally, at 6:32, why Tal didn't forked the Queen and the King like you demonstrated previously? Black would instantly lose his queen since there is no defense at all in e6. That is: Nxe6+ and then, after Ke7(forced, as e8 is being targeted by bishop), Nxc7 no matter what black does. In fact, after this, not only queen is lost, but black has two knights under threat (one by queen, another by pawn) and King is in e file where he can easily checked by a Rook. Really thanks for choosing this game, Agadmator. Ill look thoroughly on Stockfish.
Hahaha, thanks Jonathan. The live questions were wild. I enjoyed it very much. Next month I will have a quiz again so maybe you will be able to participate :)
Mistake is... 25. Bxb5 I think actually loses for white after... 25. ... Ng6 26. Nd4 Rf7! And now here white has just no way to prevent losing his trapped queen and therefore - the game... Incredibly beautiful continuation - but still rather inaccurate as played by Tal - I do think far better than the bishop move would be... 25. Rg1 Attack still going rather strong though... Rather unclear... Thank you alot for sharing this awesome Tal game anyway! :)
at 5:33, instead of Nxh8, what if black moves the rook Re7 so the knight on d4 can't fork the king and queen. White's queen isn't going anywhere. Then won't black's Ng7 move be ok?
Title should be Mikhail tal takes his opponent into a deep dark forest 😂😂😂I have seen this video on chessnetwork with this title 😂....but agadmator explanation also nice ...👆👆👍👍👍
At 6:58 why didn't black pawn D4 take white bishop E3 after moving into position to protect black Rook A7? It would've removed the threat and opened up the black Bishop's diagonal to protect the cornered King? What am I missing?
3:23 black could have played knight to g6 thus completely eliminating any threat whatsoever from the queen . Further this move gives a tempo on the strong dark square bishop of white.
I dont know which one is scarier:
1-tal offers his queen😐
2- tal does not offer his queen😐
Priceless comment 🤣
Ahhhhhhahahahahaha
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I believe looking at Tal playing without sacrificing is just chilling, like wtf
The moment u realise ur opponent is Tal, just run for the fear of ur life 😀
There is something scarier than both options: Tal offers either of his queens.

such a brilliant answer. Totally, we get to experience this great game in its entirety without getting bogged down in variations.
Absolute masterpiece: Pinning both King and Queen deep on the other side.
Leaving one piece hanging is always not enough for TAL.

From this point of view, it might have seemed to be a blunder under close analysis, since Tal definitely won the game. But it was rather due to Tal's beautiful combinations and extreme complications that he made afterwards that won him the game rather than Koblencs' Ng8 move. In anyway, it might've been really a blunder and Ke7 would've been better, but the reason that Tal got in to Koblencs' head is false.

After ...., Qg6 white can simply take the queen with Bxg6! That was the whole concept: attacking the queen with the light squared bishop.... lol
Light square bishop just chilling the entire game.
@@stelixhyx808 1. ... Qb7 Bxd7 2. Qxd7 Bxg7+ and White is a Rook up. I guess 3 years ago I was far weaker compared to now.
@@lecioperyjunior1690 being up is not really the point. If knight xh8, black is up pieces. But getting force mated in 6 moves no matter what he does
@@stelixhyx808 After Bxg7+ White has no viable moves(zugzwang) which means you can stop the analysis. Also, it's a mating pattern difficult to be spotted for players under 2000 FIDE without machine assistance.
@@lecioperyjunior1690 i see, thanks!
Tal: "I didn't sac my queen. I invested it."
great analysis
When Mikhail dominates you, you feel like Talidom..
This is such a beautiful game.
Well you weren't kidding,,,, a very complicated game. ! I need a brain rest now,,,, lol. TY,,, 😎✌
Great as usual
Havent seen the video yet but I am here for the piece sac and the amazing Captures Captures Captures 😂
I will be disappointed if I dont get any of these...
Great stuff cheers,i am lookig forward to the chess quiz.
+MysteriousLabyrinth Glad to hear it! Everything is ready, starts in about one hour :)
Could you do a remake of this video? It‘s one of my favourites 😄
That was a heck of a position.
Why can't bishop take queen it's free.. or am I missing something here??? At 2:59?
Queen is trapped, bishop can take it on g6
Excellent channel man! Tell me; which program do you use for the chess demonstration?
Lécio Pery Júnior Black responds with Bxc6.
Michael DiSciullo thanks. Unfortunately I feel very dumb now. I won't blame you, though. A minor correction: Bxe6. I should have seen it.
I love your videos man keep up! I watched the live questions I wish I could have participated, you got my sub
Hahaha, thanks Jonathan. The live questions were wild. I enjoyed it very much. Next month I will have a quiz again so maybe you will be able to participate :)
Mistake is...
25. Bxb5
I think actually loses for white after...
25. ... Ng6
26. Nd4 Rf7!
And now here white has just no way to prevent losing his trapped queen and therefore - the game...
Incredibly beautiful continuation - but still rather inaccurate as played by Tal - I do think far better than the bishop move would be...
25. Rg1
Attack still going rather strong though...
Rather unclear...
Thank you alot for sharing this awesome Tal game anyway! :)
at 5:33, instead of Nxh8, what if black moves the rook Re7 so the knight on d4 can't fork the king and queen. White's queen isn't going anywhere. Then won't black's Ng7 move be ok?
when analysing i guessed why he would miss queen captured on g6
At 5:32 couln't Koblents just move his rook to e7 and defend e6 while maintaining g7?
I am a hobbyist, and I'm just curious.
The greatest of all time
This game is featured in Chessmasters grandmaster edition pc game. Amazing.
My favourite chess game ever yet!!
I definitely recognized the position as Tal-Koblentz scrolling down the screen. Only position white queen is on h8 with no legal moves
Tal and Evanchuk..... They are my favorite.... Unpredictable
3:23 black could have played knight to g6 thus completely eliminating any threat whatsoever from the queen .
Further this move gives a tempo on the strong dark square bishop of white.
