      I’m from the UK and had to work out 401 cubic inches is around 6.6 litres. That’s big. I used to drive a friend’s (very rare over here) 1980 (I think) Cherokee Chief that was around 5.9 litres (would that be about 355 or 360?). It wasn’t that fast but it was grunty and full of character!

    • @IR-nq4qv
      @IR-nq4qv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markbennett6658 5.9 is a 360.155 HP and 255 ft pd tq hardly a killer engine. I don't think any of them were all that fast, comparable to other vehicles, they were more famous for their four wheel drive capability back in the day. With the right tires they were exceptionally good in deep snow.

    • @markbennett6658
      @markbennett6658 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IR-nq4qv yes 155 HP is pretty pitiful and it needs all the torque with that much mass to haul. I’ve got a 2006 WK HEMI which is a 5.7 and around 330 HP. That’s brisk if you stand on it but not earth shattering. Most never see snow and rarely rough terrain here. They’re referred to as ‘Chelsea Tractors’!😂

    The "patina" clear coat is very interesting. I first saw rat rods in 2001 at cruise ins and car shows. I thought it was just a fad. I was very wrong. I was also the owner of a "rat rod" 64 Chevy C10 that I considered an unfinished show truck. An all original 2nd owner straight 6/230/3spd shop truck. I put a 350 SBC out of a 69 Camaro in it in 1989 with 66 Chevelle 327/ 300HP "double hump" 1.94 intake valve heads shaved .020 , Hedman headers, Cherry bomb header mufflers (it would shoot flames 3ft out the exhaust if you knew how to work the manual choke and downshifted) Edelbrock Torquer, 650 Holley, 2:80 Magnum Comp Cam with double roller timing chain and TRW valves with Michigan 77 bearings and a 67/427 Corvette distributor...with points! I tore out u-joints, shock mounts, clutches, alternator brackets, bent pushrods, broke a lifter on #1 cylinder ran it up to 7000rpm (2 bolt stock crank and rods) it held together for over a decade of nothing but abuse. It was still running when I stupidly sold it to buy a 87 Formula. Damn I miss that C10!!!

    Mileage is wrong on the time stamp 2:37, it totally rolled over odometer you can tell because between the 5 and 2 is off set. The other one time stamp is correct odometer 6:28 the numbers is correctly in line not rolled over, odometer was designed from the factory to tell the odometer has rolled over.

      @shawnmason5290 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Dennis, really like the first Jeep you looked at, just wondering if you would consider using a satin clear instead of gloss. It just looked abit shiny. Just a thought. Love the videos.

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same thing. I thought they usually did use a satin clear on most of em before so this one really jumped out at me with the gloss and to me it looks really unnatural with the gloss but there’s a bunch of other guys saying that they like it so maybe one of those things where it works for Some but surely not all. If I was going to put a gloss clear over an original paint survivor, I’d just go ahead and body work it as well and paint it back original color. The gloss clear to me just does not look right over patina but that may be what the customer wants tho also, who knows but it’s a great Jeep either way

    I love survivors but to gloss over patina is the dumbest look. Patina is natures wear on something. The protectant (clear) should be matte. Or at the very most, semi gloss. I’ve seen so many screw up this look going the gloss route.

    Cool stuff but I'm not a fan of gloss clear over patina. The whole point of leaving the patina is for the vehicle to look old. If you want shiny then just paint the thing. If you want to preserve the patina then do a satin or flat clear, not gloss.

    1st specimen, ding in the hood - left side above the lettering...don't want to be critical, and I suppose that it was left for original condition purposes. If not, a little spank or two from the underside would rectify it.
