d, gi, x, r and s sound the same in "standard" Vietnamese (Ha Noi Accent) But there are differences in dialects: Especially in the Southern and Central regions often this happens: d&gi turns to y (as in yankee) while r becomes a rolled-r and s turns to sh (as in shell). Also the v (as in vulture) changes to y (as in yankee) as well. They even have different vocabulary. But it varies from person to person, town to town, valley to valley,... Most vietnamese have no trouble with that, but you have to learn it too. Also I wouldnt recommend this particular recording, they have some mistakes in pronounciation!
