After being a realistic watercolor and mixed media artist for five years, you have opened up the world of abstract art to me. I am excited about my art again and have created several abstracts that I’ve attached to 12” cradled birch museum panels that I’ve hung in my home, a first for me. I’ve taken a number of your skill share classes and just signed up for a more intensive class called “Soulful Abstracts” with Laly Mille. Denise, I am so grateful for you for helping to make art new, expressive, but mostly FUN again! I am also an art supply junkie and have bought a number of the art supplies you use, my favorites of which are the Kuretake Inks (gold and silver) and their gold paste, as well as the brass nib for the inks (so fab!), but my most recent purchase from watching your inspiring YT classes is the Painter’s Color Diary. I really like your idea about floating the painting on a mat. I am going to try that. Also I wanted you to know that when I am "not" feeling inspired - I watch one of your videos and immediately grab my watercolours and start splodging the paint on paper. I bought the set of four and plan on listing the colors by color so I can compare each red or blue, etc to see which would work better for the particular painting. I had already done that with all my inks ad it works really well. So love this painting!! Great colors! produces great contrast.

There are some brushes that flex and flick tiny paint dots when they’re lifted from the paper. I have one that always does it and others that never do.

Beautiful, Denise! I am wondering if you or followers have any hot tips on inexpensive wall frames in classic black or white? My usual source went out of business.
My favorite black frames have been from Target. Second choice Michaels. I also get semi custom frames for special sizes from Frame Destinations online. 😊
I am a newbie to watercolor painting. What is the difference between Hot Pressed and Cold Pressed? Also why would I want one over the other and could I always just work on Cold Pressed? Thank you for your time and wonderful videos.
I like coldpressed for mostly everything. Hot press is super smooth. Coldpress is softly textured.

Hey Denise, what do you do with all those quality paper scraps? Have you ever thought of taping them all down to a hardboard and doing intuitive paintings that could either be cut up for collage, art prompts, or even a 3D collage(like you did on skillshare class)?
I keep everything! I have a few collage classes on skilkshare where I show how I use them. 😊

The color challenges are so fun!. I have a question about the Gansai Tambi Colors. Are the Art Nouveau colors in the 48 set, or are they different colors? I´m new to watercolor painting, I´ve been a cardmaker for years. Thanks to your videos I thought I might try abstract painting. And I have so FUN painting!! 😃😊Se you in the next video.

Kuretake makes 100 colors total… the 48 set, the art nouveau set make up the majority and are both different. They also have little sets with the graphite colors and the metallics. 😊

Beautiful piece! You mentioned you are doing wet on wet but as a beginner and learning I didn’t notice you wetting your paper first. Did I miss something?
I don’t do wet on wet… my paper is dry and I put the paints on… then work the colors as they are still wet allowing them to touch and flow.

I just love me some Denise Love in the morning. Tyvm for todays art color challenge. I have been waiting for this set of Kuretake colors to arrive. Today's the day. ❤ really looking forward to switching them. Which i have a question for you. I see your colors swatched really nicely on your color pallet, i tried to swatch my 36 color pallet and they dont look so smoothly. Did you really wet them down to look so good? I have other watercolors that are swatching really well on my pallet.
So glad your paints came in. They use a different binder than what other watercolors we are used to use. I spritz the colors with water to get them primed and then use them. 😊

@2lilowlsstudio the set i ordered from Blick, went to their back order list, so i spent time getting all the colors written down and found 2 off the wall companies that i was able to get the single pans ordered from. Might have been a few i really loved that were doubled in the orders.. LOL i love that pallet. I now have every set Kuretake has made. I love my real expensive sets of watercolors but Kuretake just allow me to have fun without that tiny fear of messing up. And the cube colors can really be matched with the art nouveau set prettty well.
