Idk why, but I always thought if Sanemi succeed to make him blind, the ways he did it, would actually kill him since there is no technology medical tools and advance knowledge to preserve the organs around the eyes. Plus, if we talk how Sanemi would leave him alone, Genya would try to go somewhere, but can end dying by loosing a lot of blood or by accident on something or falling on something. It it’s temporary his demon form he turns into a human again he’s still human
He can only regenerate things he lost while is demon form, hope this helps:D
