Wow what a disgrace. Ridiculous ref. Cassarà ist not the finest gentleman on the planche but his reaction was not rude or disrespectful, he just explained loud to the ref that the call was evidently wrong. Should he communicate with him with a written letter or what😂
Such amateurism from referee at such high fencing level is painful to watch 🤦🏻♂️ Fencers need to be able to trust the referee to fence at their best. This is unacceptable
Refs make mistakes in every bout. It's impossible to entirely accurate when actions occur so quickly. I admit that not looking at the light when awarding points is pretty extreme but it's still a mistake. It's not like it was intentional.
@@absoluteloyalty9033 I mean…. It was two points… awarded… one time with NO light, the other time with off target. It is one thing to get the phrasing of an action wrongs but even someone who doesn’t understand the rules of fencing would not have awarded a point for a no-light or white light. It is simply unacceptable
@@dzfz2100 The guy didn't get the call wrong because he didn't understand the rules. He just made a brain fart. I agree that guy screwed up badly but haven't you screwed up before?
@@absoluteloyalty9033 no, in all my years of fencing and amateur refereeing never have I once awarded a point to a fencer that failed to register a light. This paid referee made two errors of this sort in a single bout that resulted in significantly throwing off a professional athlete.
@@absoluteloyalty9033 and perhaps I misarticulated my point about “understanding the rules” - what I was trying to say is that even a novice referee understands “no light = no point”. How in the world does a professional referee get this wrong twice in one leg of a match? Had he not made such blatant errors, Cassara would not have been put so offside (justifiably in my view), and would not have been carded.
Yeah....totally fucking up those 2 hits by themselves should've caused him to be pulled. Awarding a touch on a MISS and another on a clearly indicated off-target?? Was he even LOOKING at the lights on the mask (the actual box) or the repeaters?? Even I'M better than that!
I actually think the referee was right to card Cassara and shouldn't have removed the card after the video review. In the first action you show the Italians get the call changed by calmly saying "one lamp", didn't even need to ask for video (in fact I'm curious what prompted the ref to change the call), in the second action the protests from the Italian box and Cassara were reasonable, until Cassara covered the side of his face and shouted "Non valid! White lamp!" right at the ref. For me, that was too far, especially as the ref was about to talk to Cassara, possibly explaining what he felt at the time was a reasonable call. Definitely a school boy error on the part of the referee, twice, but it seemed to me Cassara's means of protest were too rude
Nah fam. That isn't offensive or rude at all. Cassara was 100% correct in calling the ref for that bullshit. He got that card undeserved. Calling an incompetent an incompetent isn't rude at all.
No, in a sports event you need to shout I less you're extremely close so people can hear you. If he'd shouted "Bad call!" He'd have been totally right still, but a little rude.
Cassara's coach was probably cursing the ref with the entire Italian dictionary
😂
Probably???? Lol
Hey ref, you're doing a terrible job of hiding the fact you've been bought

a written letter lmao 😂
they would prefer a declaration of quill and ink
That must've been the worst referee ever. How do you blow a one-lighter?
Bit of an embarrassing moment for sure
😅
I think Cassara’s expression at the end qualifies for a fencing “curb your meme” moment 😂
It's a shame we couldn't see Zherebchenko's face, or even better, the Russian and Italian coaches I'd say they were priceless

Major bruh moment
nah cause how do you get it THAT wrong 💀
1:34 sums it up pretty well
1:35 just shows the face of "this is so wrong but I don't want to get carded"
Yeah that's the perfect description
Impressive that he didn't complain more, I bet there was a lotttt of discussion afterwards though ahaha
Where's the bout committee when you need it?
This is definitely a weird one! So the question of course is: What are your opinions on this? 🤔
ref should card himself)

😂 On point as usual Garm
How much did the russians pay the ref.
The ref should deserve 2 red card with those judge, even my son won't judge that at 5.
What the hell....I guess there’s a reason why I don’t recognise this ref in any recent videos?

Wait... Isn't it Tokyo 2020 world cup? It's from 2020 season, isn't it?
Hmmm you might be right about that, I personally always get confused with what year is what season 😅 Can't change it now
most bullshit red car ever

Dude....the ref awarded a touch on a MISS and then did so on a clearly indicated off-target. Cassara was rightly pissed at a ref so bad.
