    Old meter socket looks like a MURRAY im my area they require that a riser mast be 2/12 in RMC fore 100a service 3 in RMC fore 200 amp service this has an insulator to attach the service drop and comes in a kit includes , srevice head, insulator bracket , big clamps with heavy threaded rod and a reducer to go to 1/14 or 2 in.On a normal service RMC 1/14 fore 100/150 a service THWN no3 /no 1/0 2in RMC 3/0 THWN fore 200 a service RMC to the panel.
    In one of your other videos you said you cant come out the left ko of the meter can like you did hear .I cant use EMT out doors they would hang me if i used pvc exposed especially fore a service run thats RMC talk

      Probably a Murray and now a Millbank. Wow, 3" RMC is hard to almost needing a table top bender to install an off-set for a gutter?

      I would see if they accept articles 225 and 230 when it talks about service entrance conductors and how SCH 80 PVC is acceptable, EMT and a hard type FMC is also allowed. Out here in Rez. our power companies make me take the old IMC short piece out and they are more concerned about us using SCH 80 with a slip riser sleeve. Must be our soils that expand.

      @@Petersonelectricllc These either go on the building or through the eve and roof with a flashing that you have a roofer install in the shingles they are always straight I saw how yours have a special bracket that tie it into the roof never have seen that before.

    Totally agree, especially when the ac is 10 to 20 yrs old and it takes 300-600% to kick it on.

    You don't have to take that min ckt ampacity at 125%. That calculation has already been done by the manufacturer

    I’m surprised that they didn’t make u put blanks in the old panel cover

      I ended up using to pan head self tappers to shut the cover, good question. Thanks for watching.

      Keep up the great videos, Iv been doing electrical for 20 years and you are a very skilled electrician. I watched your video of you trouble shooting the afci breakers where you had 240 in the light switch. lol I actually had that happen once to a customer

    Another good reason for running the # 10 wire is the long distance. Takes care of any voltage drop.

      @@Petersonelectricllc Hi Josh, I have a question for you regarding EMT. Is there a particular reason why you used EMT to go from the panel to the A/C disconnect, rather than using PVC? EMT seems to look more neat and I know it is an effective ground fault path. Also, how well does it hold up outdoors? I live in South Florida near the ocean, and almost anything gets destroyed between the sun and the ocean salt. Thanks.

    • @Petersonelectricllc
      @Petersonelectricllc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@illestofdemall13 I like how it looks, less straps and it seems that our uv rays are harsh here and pvc can sag. We live in a DRY area and do not worry about salt and areas that act like an indoor pool, like your area. I have never been to FL but when I do I will look around at the electrical. I enjoy hearing things like this. If you have to use PVC I would stay with twice as many straps and use Mini straps and use only SCH 80

    • @illestofdemall13
      @illestofdemall13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Petersonelectricllc Thanks for the reply. I live in Fort Lauderdale, which is about 30 minutes North of Miami. It is pretty hot and humid here, and some metals get corroded depending on how close to the ocean the building is. Sometimes PVC lasts a decent amount of time around here if it is more in the shade. I like 2 hole straps for PVC, even though it is extra work.

    Nice install, although the Min and Max breaker on the name plate are already figured with 125%. Mike Holt has a sizing video explaining sizing ac units.

    • @Petersonelectricllc
      @Petersonelectricllc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I have heard this both ways. But most of my service calls 20 years later, in-fact, last week I had a new ac that was 8yrs old and the compressor was going out, it does not hurt to practice to over size the ac 1.25% to keep a safer diameter when making sure the lock rotor it won't melt the wire.

    Each AHJ has or can adopt their own rules, above the NEC

  • @dangerdavefreestyle

    after all the ampacity adjustments usually you can do a max of (4) romex wires in a raceway. but a nipple being less than 2 ft is not considered a raceway. does the "bundling" matter ? those all go into the house through one hole right?

    • @Petersonelectricllc
      @Petersonelectricllc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right on the nipple rule if it is 24" or less, I'm not sure how each AHJ sees this, my inspectors are cool with that 80% full. I have noticed they are more concerned with the puddy fire fill in the raceway if we are transfering from outside to inside with the cabinets.

      When I was in trade school, we were drilled on that particular question for the service outlet. I couldn't believe how important that was. After several times it helps you to remember in the field when working on a house to provide an outlet near the A/C (no further than 25 feet)
