Unfortunately not much was being done about it, and now we are seeing the consequences of that situation. Unfortunately there are many areas in Alberta and British Columbia that are covered with dead trees that were killed by the pine beetle. Now we know how bad things can get if these trees start burning.
i hope when the rebuilding starts some one get the idea to put sprinklers on their homes roof, if the town also put sprinklers on each light pole the damage would be much less, IMO
A Brit speaking, I have visited Jasper. I am no expert but why don't they clear fell all forest for say 1 km around all vulnerable settlements and build houses from stone (there are plenty of rocks in the area) rather than wood with fireproof tile roofs. Just a few thoughts.
