It’s a good idea to not attach anything to the hitch while off-roading to improve your departure angle... you didn’t hit any limitations, you hit the hitch cargo rack on the ground!

I’m very impressed with how detailed the evolution was presented in this video! I haven’t seen anything like it! Most video’s are just a run down of current mods. Great work man! I hope you’ll be able to make it out this weekend.

      Official event start location (10-17-2020 @ 9AM)
      34.94337, -116.85850
Pre-event campout will start the evening of 10-16-2020. Location is TBD until we procure a spot
Halloween 🎃 spooky 👻 Dooky 💩 ghost town camping party. Come camp with us on the abandoned grounds of the old Calico Silver mines. There’s a lot of things to do out here, this will be an excellent venue for a large camp out!
**Because We have to procure a campspot before I drop the coordinates, They won’t be available until the day before the event***
Social distancing will be strictly encouraged. We can’t exactly enforce the rules. No ones gonna tackle you for not wearing a mask, but we need to make sure we don’t spread the Rona like the Sturgess motorcycle rally. A whopping 260,000 cases came from that meet! Let’s make it “Zero”!!
Calico is the perfect venue because there’s a lot of space, so social distancing should come easy. (Going to need a number of volunteers to help reserve camping land on a Thur/Friday Oct 15&16)
**Comms will be FRS/GMRS channel 2 sub 2
      Frequency 462.5875 ctcs 71.9
      Itinerary
      10-16 Friday
We will provide camp coordinates Friday afternoon.
Friday night will be a social distanced meet and greet by the campfire and possibly scary movie viewing. Who has a projector? Haha
      10-17 Saturday
      This will be EVENT day!!!
      8:00am
For those camping out Friday night, we will get packed up and ready to roll out. If it takes longer to pack, start sooner please.
8:30am early camp roll out to event location
      9:00am
      Location: 34.94337, -116.85850
We will start off by visiting the Odessa canyon arches and mines. This is where smaller vehicles can drive through two arches. There’s also a little network of mines here.
      11:00am
From there we take mule canyon road to the easier part of west Phillips drive. This is a moderately difficult road for a crossover. This will lead to Kramer’s arch.
      Location: 34.95094, -116.84319
This is a narrow and technical obstacle that will be a tough test for anyone without traction aids. This is totally optional! Actually, don’t even attempt unless you really want to and If you’re willing to risk body damage. Smaller vehicles have less to worry about but without a LSD or locker, it will be tough going. I advise you to not push it too hard, remember you have to drive your vehicle home 🥺.
      1:00pm
From here we will make our way over to the abandoned mines.
      Location: 34.96667, -116.85922
We will hop back on mule canyon road to tin can alley and then take an unmarked road west to the mines. This isn’t the most direct route, but it will be more manageable for stock awd crossovers with 8 inches of ground clearance. More capable rigs may want to drive up west Phillips road and meet us along the way (I’ll give anyone more specific information on how to do this, just let me know). The road is 7 miles of easy/moderate trail. It should take approximately 1 - 1.5 hours. Once we get to our destination we can break for lunch. I know not everyone will be interested in exploring an abandoned cave, but there will be plenty of other areas to explore on food as well.
This cave is a good 1/4 mile long. Fun and spooky!
Afterwards, we drive back to camp. Depending on where camp is, we can drive back the way we came, or take a short cut to it. This will all depend on vehicle capability. We’re overlanders, so let’s not leave anyone behind.
      Sunday
We have breakfast and branch off and do our own things. Some will go home, and the guys with the super capable rigs can take on “gatekeeper” if you so dare! I’ll stick around and record any of you that give it a go!
Here’s a TH-cam video that will give you an idea about this venue and the activities.
      th-cam.com/video/0Uk3gBZ3udU/w-d-xo.html
      Stay tuned for more updates
Disclaimer: The biggest danger here will be vertical mind shafts! Watch your step! Don’t just jump out of your car. Look before you step!
We will be primitive camping outdoors in the desert. Bring water, lots of water. Even if it’s cold, you’ll still need to keep yourself hydrated. Although it’s rare, encountering a dangerous animal or insect is a possibility.
although my recommendations should keep you safe, I cannot guarantee your safety. I am also not responsible for your safety. Your life and well being will depend on you. Use good judgement, don’t take risks and remember! WATCH WHERE YOU STEP! Remember, this is just “like minds” getting together. Let’s all look out for one another.
Also, let’s talk about Covid. If you’re experiencing symptoms, please do not attend and self isolate. Social distancing will be a given. There will be a lot of long distance high volume conversations, it’ll be fun shouting at each other 🤣.

This is a very good looking rig and I'm not surprised with positive comments. However, by going with 3" lift you have actually decreased GX's offroad capabilities and that is an axel articulation, which is very important aspect in the wild. If you hit the steep trail with moguls, you would loose traction very quickly. The GX would do much better with 2-2.5" lift (front) in that situation. If anybody is interested in understanding why and learn more about suspension engineering, then there is this guy on YT (Tinkerer's Adventure) with very solid data and real life examples of toyotas.

Hey man. I really love the rig and post. You made her thick. Bravo. As everyone else, I have a question and beg for your opinion/experience. The question, what do you think about upgrading the rear track arms/control arms and Panhard rod to adjustable when lifting? Did your decision change based on 2" vs. 3" lift? I've found very little info on the pros and cons of these rear components. My plan is below, if you are curious. Thank you in advance if you have any wisdom to depart.
Long story short, I got a 2015 luxury a few weeks ago. I want to get the following work done in the next month or two and am debating if I can cut my costs on the rear components, above. I plan to lift the front 3 inches, new UCA/front control arms, raise the back 2 inches, and install the air bagman replacement bags for an already 2" raised rear. So the back would sit at about 3.5" and can blow up to about 5." All of this to get 275/70/r18 on the OEM rims and hopefully minimal rubbing/fixes. I know the bags are not as functional, but my dogs can't climb latters. Haha. Again, loved the rig and enjoy the ride.

Hi. I have a 2011 Lexus GX460 and just started researching about where to start with my 4x4 setup. I watched some of your video's and have started following you. Any tips? Suspension? Icon vs. dobinsons? I live in Santa Clarita and looking for a reliable shop, checking yelp for reviews. Any good shops you recommend? I don't mind the drive. Thank you!

I’ve heard great things about Icons but have never tested them myself. I have a standard Dobinsons setup but if I could do it all over again, I would go with the Dobinsons MRR kit that is fully adjustable. As far as shops, I take my rig to Nexgen Offroad in Murrieta, CA. See Kevin Knight. Great guy.
