    "As you approach the top of the hill you see a small stone tower.
    A soft, but robust voice greets you and you see a rather tall Dwarven man who invites you to join him at his fire for food and drink.
    Before you can even introduce yourself you quickly find yourself enrapt in his one-sided debate about the world and wether or not there are any new and exciting things left to discover." He is Bordo and this is his show. ❤

    I love this fireside thing. Feels like I’ve trekked a long way and a stranger has invited me to share food and stories at his campfire. Very cozy.

    I want to see inside that tower. Is it for shoe or can you actually use it for a lookout/ watch tower?

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's more for show, but you can use it.
      It has a metal frame so it's not as authentic, but there are plenty of authentic towers, but not close to my uni as this one is.

    modern fantasy didn't lose its creativity, you just need to snap out of your self imposed cage/comfort zone. Go outside lotr and dnd(and their clones), and discover an ocean of creativity.
    Look at japanese fantasy. Or chinese xianxia. Or play "indie" games like tales of maj eyal or hollow knight.

    big studios appeal to the masses, by trying to make it for everyone, they loose the fans and the new audience who don't care.

    That is a beautiful tower, is it all dry stone?
    As for the topic I enjoyed the D&D honor among thieves movie... And have had zero recommendations since. Our sci-fi fantasy is more so under threat in my opinion. How you make a boring movie about wizards fighting fascists' in space is beyond me. More recently I've heard reviews absolutely dunking on things like Rebel moon and I move further and further from traditional media.

    This is something I have a LOT of thoughts on, too many for a TH-cam comment. I think you're basically right, and I ABSOLUTELY agree with wanting a lot more grassroots creativity and less that's being driven by the big end of corporate media (or recycled through AI). I sometimes think people attack the big modern adaptations for the wrong reasons, which also frustrates me - like, I don't want fantasy to go back to a world where it's assumed that only white American guys or knights in shining armour get to be the heroes. But your take is the big critique that I basically agree with, and is why I like running tabletop RPGs and doing my own fantasy world-building and suchlike. I wish I had more space and time for the historical kit making type stuff you do, I just stick to writing and drawing and game programming mostly :)
    I think there's some really good stuff being written on the books front which I hope makes its way through more into the public consciousness. NK Jemisin's The Broken Earth might be a bit too high-concept to be a really good film (it's magnificent and powerful, but I wouldn't describe it as *fun*), but something like SA Chakraborty's Daevabad books would be a huge breath of fresh air if they got moved into other media... though again, that would require the film-makers to do it justice rather than suck all the life out of it.
    Do you read Bret Deveraux's blog, A Collection of Unmitigated Pedantry? His rants about Rings of Power are very fun to read.
    Some of your comments also reminded me of what James Holloway (who does a good fantasy monsters podcast) calls "The Tragedy of the Owlbear" - that the Owlbear in D&D was originally some random nonsense Gary Gygax came up with based on a weird plastic toy, and far too many people saw that and went "well, time to buy Owlbear merchandise" rather than "look how creative you can be with random bits of inspiration to come up with your own monsters."
    Re the video: enjoyable, and having some short-ish format stuff like this is good too, six mins is a good "take a breather, make a cup of tea, watch this while doing that" length.
    ბოდიში, that ended up being a very long comment. I did say I had too many thoughts!

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No worries, was a good read with great recommendations.
      you hit on a few points I'll talk about in my next video (decided to break longer videos into smaller chunks).
      One of the big ones is that Film scene was way way more diverse in the past, where hollywood was a second fiddle to European, Soviet and East Asian markets, but now, other than few things here and there Hollywood has become Tyrant Ruler. Talks big game on giving others a voice, but only through them and their lens.
      Internet United the world, but somehow Hollywood is till the only big creator of media and it frustrates me a lot.
      But there are bunch of small creators from all over the world who have the drive and talent to make something great, thats my hope for the future.
      more creativity, more grass roots and especially from different parts of the world!

  • @KingRichard262

    I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one. The degradation of a genre in my opinion can usually be rooted back to the pursuit of corporate success superseding the desire to tell a meaningful story with a complete lack of passion for an IP

    • @thebordoshow

      Movies viewed as product rather than art never works out!

  • @Enrohir
    @Enrohir 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You create some interesting stuff.
    But you should keep those generalizations to yourself. You are simply not the target audience of the media you are critcizing superficially. At some point, any person will have the same feeling about their matter of interest being more interesting in the past. But it's just a matter of your own viewpoint.
    You can still find the things you want today, although the increased amount of media means you will have to sift through things that you don't like.
    Stick to making things better instead of complaining.

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If me, a historical fantasy fan isn't the target audience for historical fantasy than who is?
      I'm not complaining, I'm showing the problem and presenting solutions and better options, very big difference.
      The amount of media hasn't increased actually, that was the whole point.
      Hollywood has monopolised the film market and is much more difficult for other countries to compete.
      Solution I suggest is supporting creatives outside of Hollywood system.
      Do you find anything I said disagreeable?

    i couldn't agree more. rings of power and witcher for example. they had perfect books to base their shows on. but instead they changed pretty important stuff to make the shows "more acceptable" for today's standards

    • @thebordoshow
      @thebordoshow  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think most changes were out of spite, because the writers weren't allowed to make something they wanted and studio mandated that they needed to create shows based on existing and popular stories.
      why does an already existing story need a writers room of 20 people? each wants to put their mark on it and all have conflicting ideas.
      it took 1 dude to make the whole world up, but it took 20 to mess it up.

    • @fenrirlokisson9361

      @@thebordoshow they want to make more money, but don't get how money is made. If they had stayed close to the material, I'm sure they would've made at least 4 times more. plus love from original fans, but they had to "let's make one of the wisest and one of the most magical elf run around with armor and sword and make impulsive decisions". Don't even want to talk about Witcher anymore. They had everything they needed. Budget, books and literally "the nerd" who knew Witcher lore pretty well. But they had to screw it up as well

      @thebordoshow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fenrirlokisson9361 sad to know that Witcher was Henry Cavils passion project and it was his involvement that it was greenlit, but the showrunner just chased him off.
      I think its just ego, the writers and show runners think they are better, hate the source material and just want to make their own shows but studios only finance big name projects. so they seethe and ruin
