    HI!
    HELLO!
IT HAS BEEN... so, so, SO long. I haven't edited a video in what seems like years. Last time I posted, I was just graduating high school. Holy cannoli, I'm a junior in college now. Time sure does fly when you're having fun.
Well, enough about me. I hope all of you are well! All 161 of you! Thank you for still hanging onto this seemingly dead channel. My heart is touched that people can still glean joy from my videos.
Now that greetings have been exchanged, let us hop into some psychological evaluation.

    DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:
I watched "The Black Phone" a year ago and it just stuck with me because of its originality (and hey, you can't go wrong with a masked antagonist). Recently, I watched it again and The Grabber proved himself to be a fascinating case study.
First of all, this video is NOT A SHIPPING VIDEO. Second of all, I AM NOT CONDONING HIS ACTIONS AND HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVED.
Very good, now that we are all in agreement, I shall state my thoughts. I made this video about him because I think he's an extremely complex (and fragile) character. Like Ethan has said in interviews, he shows signs of some sort of brutal trauma (paternal definitely); he acts as if the wires in his head are frayed and sparking, crying one moment and attacking a few seconds after. He's gentle one day and cruel the next, clearly displaying some kind of severe, untreated, mental disorder.
Personally, I don't buy the pred angle for him, because I think it would cheapen his motives. (Yes, I know the director has said that he is one, but a lot of the decisions he makes are rather unusual for an offender of that nature. Like bruh has time to sit up all night in front of the basement, but doesn't actually go through with anything? It's just unusual. But anyhoodles, rant over!!!)
Furthermore, his interactions with Finny don't exactly match up with how preds usually vibe. Maybe I'm biased because I like Ethan Hawke, but I felt like something more was going on with all the games (MORE LIKE TESTS) and the fact he told Finny he was thinking about letting him go. But who knows. Everyone has their own interpretation of him, I suppose.
In my analysis, he seems like he had a very abusive father who damaged his psyche so savagely that he felt the need to relive (or reconcile) what happened to him by kidnapping innocent boys and putting them through a series of psychological trials to judge their characters. You are free to disagree with me in the comments!!! I love to hear other opinions too.
I chose "Masterpiece" by Motionless In White because one particular line captured exactly what I saw in The Grabber:
"And in the light of my demise,
I see my failures in your eyes"
When the Grabber sees the kids, he sees himself in them. That's why he partially hates them and partially loves them. He lost his innocence and maybe he's trying to reconnect with it in a very twisted way. This video represents the voice of his conscience, the tiny child in him that isn't dead yet, feeling the ache of shame and desiring to do the right thing. But he can't. Maybe it's his father's voice that has been telling him that all along. In the end, he sees all the pain he caused in Finney's eyes (as well as the agony of the kids on the phone) and dies a miserable death. It's horrifically sad, but I'm glad Finney wasn't hurt and got home safe to his sister and dad.
