During 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, there is a group of Russian soldiers boarded a ship and travelled in order to escape from the communist. They landed landed in Guian, Samar. Some of its men intermarried with the locals and one of the is the family of my friend...
The Philippines has helped many refugees through the years....Vietnamese, Israelies, Russians, and probably a lot more.

It was indeed a blessing and another milestone of Filipino generosity shown to the world.
However, it could've been much better had our Govt't at that time decided to upgrade their status from temporary to permanent residency as an option.
They were composed of highly skilled and professionals. They could've actually help boost the development of Samar Leyte had the local Govt't pushed for initiative to help them, and got them involved on economic and infrastructure projects.
We could have witnessed today a booming and unique place like Russia Town or Little Russia..... We could have a very good education about their culture while blending theirs with the Samar cultures.
But God may have a purpose to just anything though beyond our comprehension.
Please take note that this is after WW2. No country would like to be involved in a political battle in the future. At, naku, Pilipinas pa. For sure, tinadtad ng sandamakmak na kutya yan si Pres. Quirino sa kanyang desisyon. For sure, maraming umangal diyan lalo na yung mga kumunista at elitista sa Luzon.
