Here in 2021; at 3:56, Kevin Mchale correctly predicts that the position of Center will make a return in the NBA in the future. Today, Embiid, Jokic, Ayton, Gobert, AD, and Giannis, were all forces to be reckoned with during the season.

you really tried to sneak gobert in there xD gobert is one of the most overrated players i have seen. He doesnt do anything offensively, and even on defense, where people say he is a machine, he is a liability, like the clippers showed in 2021 against utah. you go small against gobert and he cant play. he has no post game to punish smaller guys and he cant stay in front of smaller guys. just like when people tried to argue that deandre jordan was a great center. he wasnt. he was good, but not great, his value was just inflated by the overall lack of talent at the position, and same for drummond. Gobert is a prime example as to why the supermax is a massive failure. supermax should be for guys that can actually carry a franchise, since they take so much of the cap. gobert is nowhere near that level, cuz he doesnt do much offensively and even defensively he has 1 area where he is great and but other areas where he gets exposed. cant be DPOY and be a liability on defense for your team

Yea I don't think it's that teams don't want these players. It's just no players have these post moves perfected or even close.
I always used to ask people why the hookshot went away. Kareems sky hook specifically. It was unguardable, and I could never understand why people quit doing it.
People usually say stuff like it just got unpopular but that doesn't change it's effectiveness. One older dude told me it's just to hard to master. Plain and simply a difficult shot. I think that's the answer to this whole thing.

I've been telling people for a while now that McHale was the most unstoppable "non-center" who ever played in the post. He had range and the high release with long arms , so he could hit 15-20 foot jumpers, great at FT's, one handed jump hooks, up and under and fakes for days. Just a menace of a mismatch. Now, he could never play in the 2020s game with how they want PFs to run fast breaks and shoot 3pters? I know Barkley sounds hateful and grumpy but I have to agree with him. This 3pt happy game has gone to far. The Warriors are an anomaly because Curry is the best long range shooter ever and Klay Thompson is incredible too. That is rare and may never be replicated!

elai314 jokic honestly could dominate the NBA if he just became more aggressive. He’s THE most transcendent big man out there I mean he can run the floor for you and pass like a point guard. I really hope he reaches his full potential cuz I honestly don’t think he has. He doesn’t have much faults in his game except for defense but he also should work his body more. I think jokic could be the big man to change the game and even revive the position but we’ll just have to see.

in hindsight, part of the reason why there wasnt a lot of interior game is because there simply werent many good bigs. at that time all we really had was AD and Boogie. when people argue whether deandre jordan is the best center in the game, that tells you all you need to know about the overall level of the position. there simply werent many centers that could actually score at will. you had the deandres and the drummonds of the world, but those guys pretty much just got boards and scored in the pick and roll. now there is embiid, AD, jokic and even giannis and ayton

Nowadays with help defense rules you need 3-point shooting and floor spacer to open the floor for post ups and drives. Its not about firing off 3's, its about keeping the defense honest, not allowing them to sag & go under screens, and making them pay for helping one pass away. We are on the verge of the most efficient offensive season in the past 30 years because coaches like Kerr, Stevens, & D'Antoni have realized the importance of spacing.
