With the 2027 WWC in sight, it's time to start moving on from Horan. Since the last WC, her performances have been horrendous. I think Lily Yohannes progression will be interesting to watch.
Hello Claire. I think uncle Alyssa is great, but why did she have to save Steph Houghton's penalty in France? I know folk who know Steph and she deserved that goal. US could still have won the match for me. Oh, well! Best wishes for the rest of Alyssa's domestic career. Will she remain a Star? Pity this game at Wembley was forgettable. Manchester United fans were upset that Mary Earps left, as shown by her saves in this game, but watch out for her American successor at the club as your potential next national goalie. Phallon Abaigeal Tullis-Joyce is a keeper.
Claire, it seems to me the English FA want the Euro winning Lionesses playing to get bums on seats and promote the game, plus keep player recognition for the TV audience to grow the game. I keep commenting on UK channels that we have some great younger players who are getting to the semi finals and finals of junior tournaments, but not getting experience at the senior level to future proof the team. I have to credit Spain that the juniors keep coming up against and losing out to. I reckon the US could do worse than send some young talent there to get experience.
another coach who is stagnating the midfield progression of the USWNT by making Horan a written in stone starter for this team while the rest of the world has clear eyed discussions about her obvious regression as a player. given her age, knee injury history and league she plays in, it shouldn't be controversial discussion to have but they continue to make it that way. depending on where you get your stats, this game was 1.1-1.40 xG for the USWNT and 0.10-0.40 xG for Eng. hard to complain at all about that performance.
Williams struggled as a 9, Horan with another terrible performance : too slow, holds the ball too long, dives a lot. The back line was almost perfect. Ryan was good but still lacks that final pass. decision
@@kenm6065 "Stop losing in big tournaments"...? LMFAO Spain's first big tournament was the last World Cup. Since then they've won the Nation's League and qualified early for the next Euros; meanwhile they are champions in every conceivable under age category. Their only "failure" was 4th place in an Olympics at the end of an exhausting season of winning everything (including domestically when you consider that Spain is Barca lite). so... yeah.... Maybe the USWNT needs to take more of these trips to Europe to play the big girls away instead of dragging Uzbekistan around the homeland -- that way we wont be surprised when they get their ass whipped in the next proper tournament outside of CONCACAF. (Beating up on Mexico and the Canucks doesn't count anymore.)
@@mlsarchitect They were champion at the U17 and U20 but North Korea recently won both. I do agree that USWNT needs to play better competition more often.
You are awesome. Great summary.
savannah demelo really could have gave more to this team! she was the best player in the world cup by far!

Unimpressed.
Spain would have both teams for tapas.
The biggest issue that the uswnt has right now is the midfield, but the backline and the forwards are fully capable to beat Spain.
Spain gotta stop losing in big tournaments first. Brazil had them for tapas.
