Made the move 5 years ago from Hesperia. Best move I ever made. Shpuld have stopped here in 1959 when I relocated from North East. I fully agree about the sigh of relief when crossing the bridge from Cal. to Arizona. Only been back once.
Love what little snow that we get here. Living in Mayer so still has a small town atmosphere.

I didn't move from SoCal but basically the same, Seattle and Portland. Inherited my parents cabin here, (born and raised in Phoenix but escaped to Seattle), and have lived here full time 5 years. I like it here! Very quiet. Yes traffic gets worse every year. I had to drive from my place to SeaTac airport, 10 miles, and it would take over an hour each way.
Like you touched on I miss the food. Both those places had excellent food. Prescott, not so much.
Then the medical care. As far as I know it may be like every small town, not so good. I have had 4 Primary Care Physicians in 5 years. Honestly I don't know if the first 2 were actually Doctors. They didn't even take my blood pressure when I visited them. The next PCP fled the country after being indicted for Medicare fraud. His brother was my cardiologist. Until he told me to get to a hospital in Phx for 2 stents. (He also was indicted and fled). Luckily I am being treated for cancer at Mayo in Phoenix and my Dr there had me talk to a cardiologist at Mayo. He told me you can't tell whether you have blockage, let alone how much, by those tests. I end up going to Phx 1-2 times a month now for the best medical care. (Sorry Tim Walz, go to Mayo in Phoenix)!

Glad to hear that. I live in a cabin as well. Email me and tell me what part of town you live in. We could be neighbors.

The new influx of people moving here(Arizona, particularly small towns like Prescott, Wickenburg, Pinetop and Payson) in the past 5 years have certainly almost ruined if not killed the "small" western towns.
A local question all of us ask around dove and quail season is "When is it Snowbird season?"

The City of Prescott is killing their own small Western town by having WAAAAAYYY too many special events which draw people from all over. Prescott is a tourist town on steroids.

Complain to the Prescott city leaders. They hold special events around the courthouse almost constantly, drawing visitors from ALL OVER the country, who eventually move there. They've made it into a tourist town on steroids.

We moved from Laguna Beach, Ca. to Prescott in 2018. I can honestly say that it was the best move we ever made. I still go back to So. Calif. every once in a while, to visit friends and family. I do the same thing your wife does. As I cross the Colorado river, I can feel my body tense up, because I know what the I10 freeway feels like. At first, I had a hard time adjusting to the lifestyle here. But as time goes by, I am getting better and better at it. My son who lives in Kingman, Az. wants to move up here. My son's mother who lives in Bullhead City, Az. told me that I live in paradise. We all grew up in So. California. My response to her, was just to smile and say, "Yeah I guess I do."

Another sales job by a R.E. agent, factual but incomplete. We are 22 years here from L.A. We did not bring the Kaligrad attitude here, i.e. do what I say, think how I think. don't do that, etc Many have as I have personally seen. A lot of older retirees here, & the medical system is sometimes overwhelmed. It may take months to establish with a Dr. The hospitals are good/bad, depending on the specialty. A lot of people, including us, have to go to Flag. or Phoenix for procedures. While the traffic is not like LA, it gets worse by the year & better plan ahead as lights are not synchronised. Many of the streets are like a 3rd world country. This is my issue, but 1 reason we left LA, was the noise. An endless cacophony. If you want to buy here, ck. the area at night for noise. Its sometimes like living in a kennel or a Harley Davidson test facility. This place still has advantages for retirees, but for worker bees, not so much, service economy, wages low. housing expensive. However, if u plan to open a boteekee, salonee, or maybe a grillee, the taxes & regulatory bs is nothing like the coastal states. The issue about controlled burns is true. Many years ago, we negotiated the 4 Forests Initiative, which means the Forest Service is allowed to do its job w/o so far, being sued by "enviro" groups, & catastrophic white ash, crown fires are hopefully mitigated. BTW, the low paying jobs transfers to the real estate field. Seems like every 4th person is an agent & many brokers have 60+ agents. Very few can make a living at it so be careful if you want to break into the field. He's right about the food scene, but I was never into the LA eclectic stuff, just good food. Generally, the food in the tourist areas usually is mediocre, with exceptions. The snow is silly. You might see 2 storms in winter, so batten down for 1-2 days & it melts fast. Its a balance, like anywhere else. 1 thing, if you are subject to asthma or COPD, u may want to reconsider. A lot of them leave aftet a few years.

Thanks for sharing. We learned a lot about you. Glad you think I was factual. My broker actually has about 225 agents, and I've been doing business for over 9 years. I'm not like the others.

Best video I’ve seen on Prescott! I’m a 5th generation San Diegan who recently moved to Prescott and am in love with the city, the people, and the beauty of nature here. Don’t want to change a thing and VERY grateful for the blessing of moving here!
Just like you, my wife & I have been visiting Prescott for 25 years. And LOL, the only thing that has been hard to get used to is the snow. 😂 But will gladly take it over the crowds at the beach any day!

We are in Idyllwild, CA and hoping to move to Prescott in about 2 years when hubby retires. We like that Prescott is similar environment wise to Idyllwild. We are at 6200 ft., so we are very used to the snow and don't mind it. Unfortunately, our house won't command the kind of prices that you can get in LA or San Diego, so it is going to be a challenge for us to find something equal to what we have now for the same price we will sell our house for. But we are going to try. As for tourists, we are now over run with them and Idyllwild is not set up for that many people, so it is a nightmare. We are used to hiding out at home on weekends and holidays, so I don't think we will have any problem adjusting to tourists. LOL!!!

You realize that Prescott is a tourist town too, right? They hold as many special events as possible in the downtown area around the courthouse throughout the year. Crowds from ALL OVER the country descend on Prescott and turn it into a traffic nightmare. It drove me right out of there. Not to mention the nasal congestion from all the pollen.

Where would you recommend for at least 4 acres, pine trees, equestrian there in Prescott? North Prescott?

    • @PrescottRealEstate_com
      @PrescottRealEstate_com  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Places like exist, but that's a hard combination to find. To get pine trees and acreage, you'll have top go into the mountains to the West or the South. Highland Pines and Dearing Park to the West. Groom Creek and Walker to the South. There's a map of the general areas on my web site you can search through. When you're ready, email me and I'll do some specific research for you.

We moved here in 2020 and owned our house since 2016. Best thing we did. Just know there is no high end shopping here to speak of to add to your list. And there are lots of items not really available here because of location. There is no comcast or at&t cable because not enough population but we dont complain with sparklight because we use youtube tv.i just wish there was a real nice steakhouse for special occasions and a good butcher in town.enjoy our town!.
