  • Lately I've been having a hard time finish tracks if I use more than two instruments together. Spent some time with the Digitone and I've been having a blast :D
    My "mastering chain" was very simple this time: Maximus into Limiter 6 GE. The Digitone's master overdrive sounds great as is!
    This track uses patterns A01 and A02 in the project file available here: / 97702373

    None of this sounds like FM synthesis (not that I don't LOVE some FM synthesis) and it's crazy how much warmth you can get out of the digitone. Great track!

      Thanks a lot, man! I find it easier to make music when there are limits to push. I can make music with FL Studio too, but I suffer from choice paralysis and that makes it a lot harder to actually finish tracks :D

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I don't remember exactly what I did, but it's pretty much the same process. I'm using the highpass filter to accentuate the body of the snare, and for the snare sound itself I'm exploring the high ratios and high feedback levels until I stumble into a great sound.

      Yeah, I find that using bigger setups lead to a LOT of extra work that isn't strictly making music. It's why I stick to 2 instruments at most. I've made one track using the Digitakt, Digitone and Octatrack, and that was a lot of work!

    I got lazy and always fell back to my subtractive Minilogue XD when making stuff. I've since got rid of it and realised the real power of this beast. FM is a tricky hurdle but there is such a breadth of possibility. I usually pair it with my digitakt but I'm tempted to see what I can do solo :) Thanks for the inspo!

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      FM is tricky, yeah. The Digitone's sweet spots are really tiny, but there are a ton of them everywhere. It's very easy to accidentally skip over a handful of sweet spots by just sweeping a parameter from 0% to 100%, even if you do it slowly. Sound design feels more like exploration than designing :D

    Wonderful track Ivar, nice piece full of lightness and finesse !
    Personnal note :
    I have never been less creative than since I had hardware,.
    Before I only worked with ableton and I produced "tons of tracks", but for more than 5 years I have stagnated with all those gears and can't get inspired.
    I fiddle with these buttons hoping to find "the sound that kills" in vain ! > 🤡

    That's really massively impressive!
    I have a few questions :D
    Are all the percussion (and cymbals?) the same track?
    Are the patterns running at different length or are you programmin half time at a very high bpm to create those fast drum rolls?
    I love my digitone, and you really helped me opening it up, when I first got hold of it, which I'm eternally grateful for

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks a lot, man! All the drums are on the same track, and that track has 2 voices locked to it. For hihats, I sound-lock sounds that have arp enabled at 1/16th speed so I can use just one trig to play several trigs worth of hihats. The bpm is 90, and I set the drum track's scale to 2x so it plays twice as fast, which is what lets me do the drum rolls.
      I'm really glad to hear I've helped you with the Digitone! Also, if you want a more indepth look at how I do drums, I did make a tutorial on how to make drums in 1 track here: th-cam.com/video/FIGjzzLLyU8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Vn5RmahNNQfsmqWk

  • @b3ch113

    Not sure if you agree, but i find the digitone to have sweetspot after sweetspot and really solid presets , whereas the analog four is harder to get things out of ?

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree. I think sound design is hard on both of them, for similar reasons. Small sweet spots is the main reason, but the Digitone is more unpredictable because it's FM. What makes the Analog Four hard to work with is that it sounds too clean by default. To make it sound more "analog" you have to make a ton of minor tweaks everywhere. This isn't a good or bad thing, it's just something you have to keep in mind when working with the A4.

    How do you get to have retrigger on the snare? Tempo division per track? I'm amazed at how much you get out of each Elektron box standalone, incredible talent and machine.

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All the drums are on track 4, and the track scale is set to 2x so it plays twice as fast as the other tracks. That lets me do drum rolls with the snare.
      I made two drum tutorials for the Digitone, if you're interested. This one shows how I make drum sounds: th-cam.com/video/CUMi6zErxV0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mKhmI3IrjiuwdXuE
      And this one shows how to make a full drum pattern in 1 track: th-cam.com/video/FIGjzzLLyU8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dIfARBUnuSqbsvV3

  • @bleighhh
    @bleighhh 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    wow, how did you make the drums?

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! I actually made two tutorials on how I do this. The first one is a tutorial on how to make the drum sounds themselves:
      th-cam.com/video/CUMi6zErxV0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NOUTgcxeBjFEkDkE
      And the second one shows how to make a full drum pattern on one track:
      th-cam.com/video/FIGjzzLLyU8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8zRQfI5e7pHeDkcT
      The gist of it is to load up drum sounds to the sound pool so you can sound-lock them in the sequencer. You save the same drum sound several times but with one difference: arp speed. Since the Digitone doesn't do retriggering, you can fake it with the arp. But since you can't p-lock the arp settings, you have to save them as a separate sound in the sound pool and sound-lock them. This will let you make drum rolls and hihat rolls using only 1 trig, thanks to the arp.

    I will never ever ever ever pronounce this word like "diggy-tone"
    It will always be "didji-tone"

    • @IvarTryti
      @IvarTryti  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hehe, I started calling it diggy-tone because that's how almost everyone pronounced it back before I started making videos :D. I think didji-tone would be be correct in English. Diggy-tone does feel like a more natural pronunciation in Norwegian and Swedish, for what it's worth!
