Investing to protect the River Avon

We are investing £3 million a month to tackle storm overflows and prevent untreated wastewater from entering our rivers and the sea.
As part of this work, we are building a storm attenuation tank at Victory Fields in Bradford-on-Avon to store rainwater and prevent the sewer system from becoming overwhelmed during heavy rainfall.
We are also installing similar tanks in Lambridge, Bath and Hanham, Bristol. In 2023, we invested more than £4 million across these three projects to protect the River Avon.
And by the end 2025, we aim to have completed more than 30 of these storage schemes. Work is also under way on hundreds of other projects.
