This is interesting, I'm adopted but my family is said to be Mexican Indian Ill probably never find my birth mother and father but I'd really like to know more about the Mexican Indian tribes that surround California. This is a start thanks to whom ever posted this video. Makes me want to find where I come from. I hope I do.
As a kid growing up in the San Gabriel valley I was told we were Native American Indian from the Chumash Santa Ynez/Santa Barbara area, my other side is of the Japanese heritage. Crazy
Where about? Do you know? Maybe I can help you with what tribe. I’m Native from Southern California and I know many tribes here, not just my blood lineage.
I so love that we can now see videos like this! It's so wonderful that we can learn about these things without having to go get a degree in anthropology! (lol! Especially since that was my concentration.) @aztec13lcoos: It's been estimated that maybe only 200 people made it across the Bering Strait to populate the Americas. So yes, we are all related. I love that you younger folks are embracing your indigenous roots. You, personally, may even be Aztec. But (PET PEEVE WARNING!!!!),
East Woman taught them the art of basket making, some say. Without that ability, they would be living in poverty. Many of the western people have a "Coming of Age" ceremony for all the young girls of the tribe where East Woman is the met. Just saying.
I don’t think the actual Aztecs did anything, because they weren’t anywhere near, like she said... my guess is it has to do with Mexicans who only want to acknowledge Aztec ancestry who aren’t even of Aztec ancestry who always try to claim California as being stolen from Mexico by the United States of America while disregarding the tribes who’ve been living here for thousands of years longer. My guess because I come across the same almost on a daily on TH-cam and social media sites... and “we’re” like: “umm helloooo, hiiii! You know we’ve been here longer right? And we’re still here, right?”. In other words, it’s about respect. And the do your research because not all is Aztec, or rather... is due to a lot Mexicans claiming Aztec only... it’s sort of the same running joke ALL Native people’s have about “white people” claiming they’re “Cherokee” here in the United States. The people who say they’re “Aztec” is Mexico’s version of “Cherokee” in the United States of America. And so: 1) They disregard Native tribes here thousands of years before Mexico was even established as a country.. and 2) Not everyone who’s Mexican is of Aztec descent. It sounds harsh, I know, but... it’s something we hear and read from many far too many times. Me, I just wish people of Mexican heritage truly knew their Native American ancestry... because it’s sad to know so many lost their Native American identity. The Aztec thing is burnt out, like the white people Cherokee. And what’s even more sad is that by them doing so it also negates the true Native American descendants of the Aztecs, and the true Native American Cherokee people. Well, my hypothesis from her comment anyways from my own personal experience, although I do admit that it’s my theory and my theory alone. But because of what I also deal with mixed with her comment... it’s the only logical sense I can make of it from understanding.
BACKWARD POSTS! NEWISH TO POSTING! (the adobe "Machado" house in Old Town San Diego was built by one of my ancestors), I can assure you we were NEVER Aztecs! They never got anywhere near us. Do some personal research before claiming Aztec. It's really worth it! (and if you ARE Aztec, you may have some 'xplaining to do......) Walk in Beauty, to borrow from yet another tribe...
And vice versa. Because I deal with many from “the other side” who seem to not want to acknowledge their Native American ancestry... they only seem want to acknowledge their Spanish ancestry from Europe. We were segregated from each other long ago and still seem to today by a lot, although more and more everyday are also finally becoming more aware.
Niño, just because one is Mexican DOES NOT mean one is Aztec. Any more than the Britons, Gauls, Egyptians, Greeks, or Persians were ethnically Romans, simply because the Roman Empire had swallowed their lands. It's been estimated that the so-called Digueño tribes of Old Town San Diego have been there for 12,000 years. My family met the Spanish in what is now Old Town San Diego in 1770 or so. I can assure you we were NEVER Aztecs! They never got anywhere near us. Do some personal research
I love when people say "It was Mexico" The fact is that it has always been Native people. This land had been Mexico and french but remember the Native people had one of the first language and ENGLISH/Spanish was a foreign language. Thank God there is good documentation.
