    Thank you for the information. I recently rescued a Patterdale from a homeless couple. She is a joy to have in my life. But she can't stand other dogs which be a problem when walking her. I tend to go out very early in the morning and late at night to avoid other dogs.

    My little Patterdale will soon be three, and I got her as a rescue case. She certainly had that Terrier hesitation before complying, but now [after eighteen months of saintly patience] she is remarkably good. Recall is perfect and she is so loyal and keen to please. I have few commands, - come, stop, go runnies, and sit. She is not a circus dog, and I don't believe in making fools of them. She imprinted on my on the first morning, and now she simply does not want to be out of sight of me.
    I never quite understand how anyone could dislike a Patterdale, but it must be the case as my little sweet pup was the despair of her first owner. I don't think of myself as the little dog's owner - rather it is a partnership. I keep an eye on her to stop her getting into trouble, and she sleeps with one ear open always! She can go from being apparently asleep to the Qui Vive in a flash. She does bark loudly especially when playing with other dogs, but her warning bark is quiet low woof, often with a little growl, which says that there is someone about.
    In my life I have perviously had Welsh Collies [like a Border Collie, but with longer legs], Fox Terrier type Jack Russell's, and a few foxhound pups to walk in the old days. I always have adored dogs, and they know it straight away ...
    I have to say that my Patterdale is easily the best dog I ever knew. So kind with humans, and only moderately annoying round other dogs! I am cautious with her round children, because she is boisterous enough to scare youngsters not used to dogs. She is soon three and I am sixty-two, so we should age together nicely - neither to leave the other for long, though I hope she goes before I do, as I could not happily contemplate her having to change homes again.
    Best wishes from George.
    Here she is on a visit to my Lincolnshire cousin, playing in the garden rather early in the morning. The little dog adores my cousin, and that goes both ways. For the first time ever I was able to leave her behind as she simply decided to sit on Patti's lap till I came back. Now I can leave her at home without problem, though I would not do it for more than say half an hour, as when she panics, it is not nice to hear. I think that may be something to do with her less than brilliant start before I was granted her dog guardianship.

    Yes they are certainly a challenge, especially if you haven’t had one before. It’s all part of the fun if you can stand it. I have a nine month old dog who is an absolute live wire. Good to see yours are nutters occasionally too.

    What a lovely video and all true! Gotta mention how talkative they are as well. My nut job of a Patterdale does not like other dogs at all. But people... cannot get enough of! She's so hyper and intelligent it's crazy. I've had other breeds but a Patterdale is a first and boy... I knew they are stubborn but didn't realise the level of it 🤣 amazing dogs and a good challenge to train. I might be so in love with the breed that I think I'll find it difficult to have a different dog from now on.

    We have a Patterdale mix named Riju who behaves just like Millie does when she doesn't want to do something! When Riju's had enough of something or she doesn't want to do it (she always wants to go outside, but she's not always thrilled with putting the harness on), she starts darting back and forth until she's just zooming and there's no hope of catching her when she's in "silly mode". I have to hide my smile so she knows I'm being serious.

    Our one is so protective, we have tried everything to get him to stop it & clam down, but nope. He's so aggressive. tiny little dog wants to rip everything apart. including people

      Try some off lead commands in an fenced open space.

      @@darylmearing4477 Since I last posted he has gotten a lot better. still an handful of a dog though. chews nextdoors fence up every second he gets, very daring little dog. full of beans. But overall he is a nice dog & really he only wants to bite out of fear. it's getting better though, thank God. My missis nearly got rid of him cause he accidentally bit somebody. He was lucky I was around cause she messaged to get rid of him.

      And funny how border terriers, cairn terriers and westies to name a few have never 'needed' to have their tails cut off.

    I thought tail docking was illegal here in UK?

    • @BFT7602
      @BFT7602 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tail docking is legal if the dog is working..you need to produce a shotgun licence to the vet for docking and paperwork

    Tail docking is not needed. Your dog does not work at anything.
