Never used oil, never a drop on the ground, never smoked, had oil pressure, and was taken care of and just threw these codes. It had never used oil and my dumb ass didn't check the oil like a should. It threw these codes and make a knock and I parked it. Mechanic said there was no oil to hit the dipstick. THis is my fault for not checking, but I had a false sense of security because I took care of car and it showed no signs of low oil. He says car is ruined. I am so sick right now. I just had to use this and a learning experience and not beat myself up to bad, but I deserve it. I should have been checking the oil weekly if not daily. My father always taught me to do this and I would say my cars don't use oil. He blew the seals in a truck one time putting to much oil in and I gave him a hard time. Well, jokes on me now.
hey how you doing I have a chevy trailblazer 2005 4.2 and I've been look online for where I can get core plugs or freeze plugs can't find it anyway but I talked to someone and they said I would have to pull the plug to get the size I was wondering if by any chance you knew the size of the freeze plug
I do not , but Should be able to find the correct size at Napa , or if any engine machine shops are near they may know and have them . Depending on which one as there may be a few different sizes in that block . If you can get to it enough you maybe able measure the hole , with out removing the old one.
Our 2002 TB 4.2L just thru this P0014 code. It does need an oil change. However, the oil level is full. So, I would then need to check this Camshaft Sensor Solenoid?
FYI: even with this code. The blazer is running super smooth. In the 10yrs we've had it, it hasn't run so smooth before. So, I'm stumped. I did just replace the valve cover gaskets. The shop did it 2-3 yrs ago. It began leaking real bad shorted out a coil pack causing a cyl. 1 misfire. All the spark plug bays were filled with oil. I sucked out the oil, replaced plugs and cyl 1 coil pack. I found one of the valve cover gaskets that goes around the plugs was missing. So, I have new gaskets all around. Get it all back together and now the P0014 code hits.
The Camshaft Sensor Solenoid very well could be it . Unless very low on oil at the time it is usually the sensor screen that plugs or gets something stuck in it . Need to loosen power steering pump , to change it , but not hard to do , and not to costly . So yea it is prob the next likely thing .
+Abraham Brown Well there are a lot of additives , but i can not recommend any . Rislone makes one , but if they let chunks come loose and float in oil , may go in bad places , but may also work just fine . Plz let us know if you do use one if it helps or not .
I have 05 chevy trailblazer been running fine went to change the plugs noticed a plug wire loose or unhooked ..plug back up now will crank but wont start please help didn't even change plugs .....soulutions
What? LMFAO :D The only difference then before & Now is, you don't have to change your oil every 3K miles NO MORE!!! You're supposed to change it every 6K to 7K miles now!! Oil is made BETTER now!! So we can drive more miles than before!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I have a weird issue with my 02 Trailblazer. Every once in awhile when I'm stopped, the car would stumble a bit almost to the point of stalling but never stalled yet! Like I said it happens once in awhile. I'm assuming the plugs need to be replaced?
It does help to check the oil while the vehicle is not running as probably at least A 1/2 of a court should the circulating through the system what kind of mechanic checks the oil with a vehicle running, plus your out of fuel don't let it run too long or you'll be walking to the gas station
Always check not running , Cold if can , but if engine is not slugged up in side and at operating temp , only takes a few min for oil to drain back , it has a full tank . Sending unit in tank is bad , like a lot of them are and customer does not want to fix it
scottsinfl When low sometimes the right oil flow, and pressure is not at the cam position solenoid , and it does not do the timing right , but not starve the engine of all oil pressure. , but is enough to throw off the cam timing . the oil pressure switch never showed no oil pressure.
I notice that where the wire clips in to the cam position sensor it's awfully oily. Im guessing from checking oil and drips down on it through the years. Would it be wise to unhook that wiring and clean it with some electronic cleaner spray? Should I unhook the negative on the battery first? Will it throw of the cpu setting on the cam sensor?
drvshaft drew yea , when i see a oil reminder light on , my first thought is checking the oil because it tells me it has been in there for a while and most people never check their oil.
My oil was fresh however i think the oil filter caught something because i added 1 quart of marvel mystery oil with 6 q of 5w30 valvoline(HighM) new filter (oil change) and the code went away and vehicle stop vibrating to stall at idle...So wtf was in the oil.the percentage was 80% oil change???? Whats even crazier is the engine light went away by itself.
It could of been dirt that stuck in the vvt solenoid . If the engine runs and nothing malfunctions again for so long , a lot of times the light will go out , but will be stored as a history code unless erased .
Those trailblazers take 7 quarts by the way every oil change 7 quarts new good filter not a shitty Bosch or Walmart brand fram or k&n is the way to go itll be $8 or more for the filter but itll do you wonders if you put new plugs in only go with autolite double platinum or ac delco plugs no cheap or any other brand trailblazers don't like just any spark plug they're picky and eventually if you have to replace ignition coil packs for the plugs use drivestar unless you can afford delco they get pricey 44 each on Amazon 6 ok of drivestar are 76 for the 6 of them and my trailblazer loves them every 6000 miles run a can of seafoam to 20 gallons of gas injectors cylinder heads u name it will love you for it and never fall for the cheap $19 oil change shops buy your own get good Castrol edge advanced full synthetic 5 quart jug plus 2 additional quarts you'll see a huge difference in performance gas mileage u name it that's what I've done and she's treated me phenomenal
When you turn the key on n the dash indicator light's come on, top left corner/ light show's skid marks and a crescent wrench, right of it a light caution symbol with skid light, ever delt with problems that make those come on?? I have a 2008 trailblazer when i start the car there not on turn the wheel they come on n my traction control button won't work.then there's times it will stay off for a while.???? I changed part on steering colm. supposed to fix problem.ill take any idea's on what else to look at.?? Thanks🍻
I always thought that was a oil change reminder light. lol A friend of mine has a 2005-6 trail blazer with 210K on it. There are a few random codes it sets. lol
CamperMike It is a oil change reminder , so when you see that the oil has been in there for a while and may or may not have been checked in a long time . So a good place to start.
Stanley Waggoner I never said the oil change light , triggered any code . It is a clue that the oil is old ,and may not of been checked in a while . It is a clue only.
i have a 04 chevy trailblazer lt 6 cyl. with code p0171 talks about bank1lean1... i changed all 6 ig. coils & plugs, fuel filter, fuel actuator, clean out the throttle body which was not too bad and i always do my oil changes like 7 to 9 months since its my only vehicle and still same thing. it continues to shake a bit but when driving it seems ok once until after a like 20 minutes it start being hesitant like press on the gas while on the freeway then it seems as though its going to loose power then its ok but problem persist
Is there oil leaking in around the spark plugs , or something causing a vacuum leak . Is bank 2 data readings good or are they showing lean also but not enough to set a code for bank 2 . if so may do a fuel pressure check
2002 Trailblazer LS will be running fine then all of the sudden start bogging and will eventually stall. I put 91(premium) gas in and some HEET and it didn’t do it for a couple days. Then it started doing it again and I tried the 91 and some more HEET and it is still doing it. I have the oil dipstick that is yellow on both ends and it is like stained so it is very difficult to see where my oil level is. Please help
@@Will-ot8wi Hard to tell with out some way of seeing live data , but thinking it would set a code if it was bad . It is the valve behind the PS pump. With out being able to see live data , it is hard to work on newer cars
@@Will-ot8wi Some of the ones that plug in and use your phone to see data can help , and a lot of the new cheaper scanners have live data . It is just hard with out live data , and still hard at times with live data . Hope you get it all sorted out
My check engine light came on and this P0014 error code was the only one that displayed when I checked it same day. Took car to get an oil change right after and they said there was "no oil" in it and also sludge, even tho I hadn't even reached the mileage threshold for my next oil change. They changed the oil and also did an engine flush for the sludge. Was this the likely cause and fix for the error code? Is the issue likely resolved?
It may or may not fix it . Sludge Is hard to completely remove . Also there is a Variable Timing Solenoid , that has a fine screen on it . They sometimes get damaged and plugged up . It is kinda above and behind power steering pump. They are not to bad to replace if needed
@@wtbm123 Roger that. Yes they said it was the Variable Timing Solenoid that needs replacing. I have been driving with the light on for about a month and a half now. I hope it will hold up until I can get it fixed. Thanks so much! Your channel is awesome and you provide some invaluable information. Thanks for all your help.
@@novisoprano1420 I unfortunately didn't get it fixed until last month. By that time, strangely, they said it wasn't the solenoid that needed fixing but the Vent Control Valve as well as the engine coils and spark plugs, which was much more expensive. I'm wondering if the solenoid problem progressed into these more advanced issues as time went on. The check engine light went off for a while then it came back on so it was a bit confusing.
I had the same problem it had 4 l low after replacing the oil which was black. The code went. But knocking sound and vibration still there. I fear that . That my engine to go.
If people thought of their cars as a human life then they would take care of it. when you get hungry you eat(engine oil) when you get thirsty you drink(gasoline) when you work out you make sure your hydrated properly(Coolant&Transmission fluid) so why do you feel a car is not the same????
Cool video, thanks you for taking the time to film this. I have a question, if the ohms test is good and the only issue with the piece is that it is dirty, can the solenoid just be cleaned and put back?
Generally when they start showing signs of oil around the vvt then it’s time to replace it...clean it periodically with brake clean and check it over..make sure all the screens are intact and nothing clogging it..it should be fine..this is my personal experience from the past two years on a used one I pulled from a scrapyard...but if u do replace it with new..eBay or rockauto sell them for so much less then the local parts stores do..and it’s so easy to replace it’s almost a crime for what the mechanics shop charges for the swap ...
That means reduced engine power newer cars kinda do that now if there's a severe problem it might have been that where the solenoid wasn't doing what it's supposed to
I forgot to say it threw the 0014 first, then the light deleted itself. Couple days later when it started rough it took 2-3 tries. Then started just fine but threw a code 0017. Then I changed the oil that day. 2 days later the 0014 came back and deleted the light on its own shortly after. You think cam actuator? That's what I was thinking, maybe I Wonder if I should change oil back to conventional? Last owner said this was first oil change running synthetic. Would I need to do a relearn if I change that actuator?
I have a 03 trailblazer love it and hate it things I hate Rack and pinion, ball joints, heater problems CV Axel power steering pump and I'm sure I left something out What I love at 166,000 mile tranny is still strong knock on wood my Engine runs smoothly knock on wood and it has plenty of room well it the Ext cab tows our little fishing boat just fine and that sums it up btw two Rack and pinions in two years Definitely buy it from the dealership
if oil is ok , then prob the camshaft actuator solenoid. sometimes the screen gets plugged , but usually cleaning only works for a short while if at all . Make sure the oil is clean if replacing . behind the power steering pump . have to loosen the pump bolts so it slides a bit out of the way . That would be my guess if oil is good
I bought my trailblazer 2 years ago running on 3 of 6 cylinders..I got a vvt solenoid..the camshaft solenoid he mentions located on the passenger side of the block behind the power steering I believe...from a scrap/pull ur own..yard..cleaned it with brake clean and it’s been working great for two years now...it’s about time to take it out and clean it and check it over...these things break down so easily and have so many design flaws or factory defective parts that I tend to carry an extra of certain things like coils..belt..vvt...things like that...but being stranded on a Friday night and no parts yard open till Monday sucks! Lol
I just had this happen to mine. Have always kept 5w30 mobil one full sythn . Starting running rough. I ran the codes and same codes. Mechanic told me to bring it. He calls says it has no oil and motor is ruined. It has never burned oil. THere is no oil under the car. It had oil pressure when I took it to him. No oil lights were on at all. Only two codes. Misfire and p00014. He is telling me the car is worthless now. What the frick happened to the oil? Where did it go? How did a car that has never burned oil, suddenly make the oil vanish? THis is driving me nuts. I always take car of my cars.
@@wtbm123 Thank you for responding. We keep it garaged and there was never a drop of oil on the ground. I have to deal with the car being ruined, but I also want to make sure this never happens again. I always used Mobil one Full synth extended and changed oil@5-7k miles. The filter was small for 7 quarts. I will be ultra vigilant on my next vehicle. Will be check the oil weekly and probably daily at first. I want to find a larger filter too. The envoys filter was tiny and the price for a good one was high. Wish the car had been LS style motor. Our truck has the very first one they put in a truck 99 LM7 it has 450k miles and still pulls strong. Great engines. I like the tall skirts on the top of valve. The cover is tiny and flat.
05 Chevy trailblazer is throwing p0526 when fan clutch is brand new. Runs rough like it's misfiring dogging out. When heater is turned on to high loss of power when alternator is also new and louder egine sound. Deff wirining issue but where what??
Not sure , but would look at some wiring diagrams of those systems and see if use the same power , ground or tied together in any way . Find any of their common points and start there
I just bought an 06 Trailblazer, runs very smooth and quiet, It was low on maybe half quart low so I added oil then got gas. then lt threw a code 0014 that same day, went away on it's own within 20 minutes, then couple days later when I went to start it the thing cranked over very rough and did not want to run. couple more tried it started and ran just fine. no isue's for another couple days until the code 0014 came on again. changed the oil, next day it threw the 0014 again? still runs just fine what causes this?
I've got rough idle it staked yesterday for the first time always had hesitation headlights and interior lights flicker volts drop drastically the only thing in the dash lit up is the change oil light and it goes away (need to change) but no codes I'm lost
+Chris W (The NC Rebel) Have you checked all battery connections , cables . A voltage drop test . If having electrical issues and voltage drops , a lot of times u find a corroded connection some place

I had to keep my foot on the gas and the brake at the same time at a stoplight on my way to bring it home!😫😫😥 could this be the spark plugs?😶😶😮😮
First the oil gets crappy, then the actuator screens get plugged, and finally the exhaust valves burn all to hell. Change your oil regularly and Atlas motors are great, if not they are a great headache.
Your oil is black it is time to change it that’s what that light means if you smell the oil you’ll smell the gas in it you’ll wash out the bearings and spin rods or mains and then you’ll be put in the engine area
I’ve been told that these things shouldn’t have synthetic cuz of something with the valves or idk...but I run synthetic in mine cuz I can get more then 3000 miles on an oil change and it doesn’t get chunky like regular oil does when it’s heated up..plus I have over 200,000 miles on it...I average about 30,000 a year highway miles..and these newer motors run a lot hotter then the older ones. The vvt solenoid has very fine screens in it that the oil has to flow through and that’s what the carbon build up from the oil heating up or basically cooking inside the motor especially if it’s not maintained on schedule causes to malfunction..the screens can actually come out of the vvt and get inside the cam area etc...and it runs like total crap..these things are high maintenance
Properly maintained they are very reliable. Saw one recently with over 300k on it for sale at a Honda dealer it was so clean. Trade in. I have an 07 Trailblazer with 105k on it and have stuck to its maintenance schedulento the letter. Id take off to California in it tomorrow!
I believe it's your actuator on the transfer case. Look up trail blazers on Utube...many vids on every thing. About a $90. part and no big deal to replace...they seem to get stuck from non use.

Check the muffler bearings
I had the same problem... I had put about almost two quarts... so now I'm waiting to see if the code goes off...
Hope it helps if not may need to test and replace the vvt solenoid
Maybe u can tell me 07 Chevy trailblazer when cold has oil pressure but when it gets hot it can't hold oil pressure
maybe bearings
Nice repair

One of the "screens" came of when I removed mine. Can I run it without the screen for a couple weeks until I can replace the whole unit?
I would not run with out a screen .
Is there no liquid or engine cleaner one can pour in to clean it till one can do a full tune up
+Abraham Brown Well there are a lot of additives , but i can not recommend any . Rislone makes one , but if they let chunks come loose and float in oil , may go in bad places , but may also work just fine . Plz let us know if you do use one if it helps or not .
+wtbm123 I don't know which one to use I was looking to see if I can find something to use
I have 05 chevy trailblazer been running fine went to change the plugs noticed a plug wire loose or unhooked ..plug back up now will crank but wont start please help didn't even change plugs .....soulutions
If you unplug does it start again . , Need to see if you have spark.
Thanks for the video! I'm curious if you have any suggestions on how to get the 10mm bolt of of the vvt selenoid, mine is stripped. Thanks a bunch!
They make easy out sockets
i am so outdated. thanks for these vids
cigarcaptain Oil changes is more important now then it has ever been.
Not agree, the real problem its, there is no gas :)
ok
😂
My fuel gauge just quit. It has gas but of course I’ve no idea when it’s low if I don’t remember to change the mileage numbers and I forgot!
I have a weird issue with my 02 Trailblazer. Every once in awhile when I'm stopped, the car would stumble a bit almost to the point of stalling but never stalled yet! Like I said it happens once in awhile. I'm assuming the plugs need to be replaced?
Check and see if the throttle plate is dirty
So does maintenance mean take to someone when it quits running.
snocrushr yes
It does help to check the oil while the vehicle is not running as probably at least A 1/2 of a court should the circulating through the system what kind of mechanic checks the oil with a vehicle running, plus your out of fuel don't let it run too long or you'll be walking to the gas station
Always check not running , Cold if can , but if engine is not slugged up in side and at operating temp , only takes a few min for oil to drain back , it has a full tank . Sending unit in tank is bad , like a lot of them are and customer does not want to fix it
A two handed dip stick for sure
TheEZGZ and hard to read
Doesn't the oil sending unit complete the fuel pump circuit to make it stop when it loses pressure on the chevy?
scottsinfl When low sometimes the right oil flow, and pressure is not at the cam position solenoid , and it does not do the timing right , but not starve the engine of all oil pressure. , but is enough to throw off the cam timing . the oil pressure switch never showed no oil pressure.
Hello , did you get a fix? Thanks
You are #1 shady tree mechanic .
Why does my 2003 trailblazer have back pressure when u shut it off and power steering fluid everywheres
Check if leaking where reservoir mounts on pump . sometimes that o ring leaks
lol seen this a few times myself they run them low on oil and bingo they start to cry for help but do even bother to question why the oil light is on
drvshaft drew yea , when i see a oil reminder light on , my first thought is checking the oil because it tells me it has been in there for a while and most people never check their oil.

Traction control . Check abs sensors and wheel bearings . Is where i would start . If could get car scanned it would give info also
I always thought that was a oil change reminder light. lol
A friend of mine has a 2005-6 trail blazer with 210K on it.
There are a few random codes it sets. lol
CamperMike It is a oil change reminder , so when you see that the oil has been in there for a while and may or may not have been checked in a long time . So a good place to start.
wtbm123 I too, thought the oil change reminder light was solely for this purpose. Had no idea this light could trigger codes.
Stanley Waggoner I never said the oil change light , triggered any code . It is a clue that the oil is old ,and may not of been checked in a while . It is a clue only.
wtbm123 I see.
i have a 04 chevy trailblazer lt 6 cyl. with code p0171 talks about bank1lean1... i changed all 6 ig. coils & plugs, fuel filter, fuel actuator, clean out the throttle body which was not too bad and i always do my oil changes like 7 to 9 months since its my only vehicle and still same thing. it continues to shake a bit but when driving it seems ok once until after a like 20 minutes it start being hesitant like press on the gas while on the freeway then it seems as though its going to loose power then its ok but problem persist
Is there oil leaking in around the spark plugs , or something causing a vacuum leak . Is bank 2 data readings good or are they showing lean also but not enough to set a code for bank 2 . if so may do a fuel pressure check
kinda sounds like bad cat.
Please help
Is the check engine light on . It is hard to say with out testing . Is fuel pressure good , Is the vvt solenoid good , Hard to say with out testing
wtbm123 no check engine light. I haven’t gotten around to testing the fuel pressure yet. How do you see if the vvt solenoid is bad?
@@Will-ot8wi Hard to tell with out some way of seeing live data , but thinking it would set a code if it was bad . It is the valve behind the PS pump. With out being able to see live data , it is hard to work on newer cars
wtbm123 I know WHAT the vvt solenoid is but idk how to check it. I don’t have a fancy code scanner that gets deep down into everythingz
@@groovy777 did you get it fixed?
@@novisoprano1420 I unfortunately didn't get it fixed until last month. By that time, strangely, they said it wasn't the solenoid that needed fixing but the Vent Control Valve as well as the engine coils and spark plugs, which was much more expensive. I'm wondering if the solenoid problem progressed into these more advanced issues as time went on. The check engine light went off for a while then it came back on so it was a bit confusing.
@@groovy777 yeah my Engine light came on and it reading that same code and thinking about buying that part and fixing it.
I had the same problem it had 4 l low after replacing the oil which was black. The code went. But knocking sound and vibration still there. I fear that . That my engine to go.
Hoping your engine is ok , but knocking does not sound good
If people thought of their cars as a human life then they would take care of it. when you get hungry you eat(engine oil) when you get thirsty you drink(gasoline) when you work out you make sure your hydrated properly(Coolant&Transmission fluid) so why do you feel a car is not the same????
Thanks for watching and commenting
Did the oil being so low likely do damage to this person's engine?
Prob not , as it had oil only low , If ran low enough to cause low oil pressure , or no oil pressure , then it could hurt engine
@@wtbm123 Great to hear. They also told me that my oil was extremely low and had sludge so was hoping that no serious damage had been done. Thank you!
Cool video, thanks you for taking the time to film this. I have a question, if the ohms test is good and the only issue with the piece is that it is dirty, can the solenoid just be cleaned and put back?
Sometimes yes , most times they seem to act up again soon . But not to hard to get to if wanted to try cleaning
@@w8what575 thank you for the information I appreciate it
Simple fix... Cool
yourbeekeeper Thanks
Chrck them spark plugs mines had damn near a quart of black dirty oil in it.. the head gasket probably needs sealed
Oil around spark plugs is usually a valve cover gasket . Takes a while to change the gaskets
What about when it has the check engine light on with the arrow pointing down (upper right hand side)
That means reduced engine power newer cars kinda do that now if there's a severe problem it might have been that where the solenoid wasn't doing what it's supposed to
Thank you for answering
Cable dipsticks are waaay better that the 2013 twisted truck sticks.
Easier to get in and out , but harder to see for me . Thanks for stopping in and commenting
Easy enough fix. Have a good'n
Cam position sensor or solenoid
I have a 03 trailblazer love it and hate it things I hate Rack and pinion, ball joints, heater problems CV Axel power steering pump and I'm sure I left something out What I love at 166,000 mile tranny is still strong knock on wood my Engine runs smoothly knock on wood and it has plenty of room well it the Ext cab tows our little fishing boat just fine and that sums it up btw two Rack and pinions in two years Definitely buy it from the dealership
This happened to me in Lidl the other day, got back to my van and realised I'd forgot oil
so what fixed. the p0014 code i have poo14 code and oil light on like yours checked oil its full though
if oil is ok , then prob the camshaft actuator solenoid. sometimes the screen gets plugged , but usually cleaning only works for a short while if at all .
A lot of them have leaky valve covers and can leak a lot fast.

I just bought an 06 Trailblazer, runs very smooth and quiet, It was low on maybe half quart low so I added oil then got gas. then lt threw a code 0014 that same day, went away on it's own within 20 minutes, then couple days later when I went to start it the thing cranked over very rough and did not want to run. couple more tried it started and ran just fine. no isue's for another couple days until the code 0014 came on again. changed the oil, next day it threw the 0014 again? still runs just fine what causes this?
if oil is clean or just changed and the right weight oil for it , and full , then it may be the Camshaft Position Actuator

some leak and some burn some , but not enough to smoke out the tail pipe always .

curious on how 2 quarts of oil took your empty bone-dry engine to full? Wouldn't it take like 5 to 6?
it was just below the stick not completely dry
Mine takes 7 quarts it's a 02 blazer. So yea 2 qts lol
It's hard for an oil control mechanism to do it's job with no oil...I'll bet that engine looks very ordinary inside.
ZIGgassedUP and you would be Right
First the oil gets crappy, then the actuator screens get plugged, and finally the exhaust valves burn all to hell. Change your oil regularly and Atlas motors are great, if not they are a great headache.
Regular Oil changes would do wonders for these
I have to replace this part ever 6 to 8 months. Machanic charged 120 for labor and 35 for part. I think I'm getting ripped off.
That is not to bad depending on where you live
Oil starvation Oh My!
+TimsComputerRepair Oil is a good thing
+wtbm123 lol! yes... yes it is.

Your oil is black it is time to change it that’s what that light means if you smell the oil you’ll smell the gas in it you’ll wash out the bearings and spin rods or mains and then you’ll be put in the engine area
not mine and no fuel in oil
wat type of oil synthetic or?
Your car might need a fuel pump soon
