Surprised there was no mention of the Dead Hard meta, a meta which caused the entire killer playerbase to "wait it out" on every survivor in every match, just in case the perk was equipped. That meta lasted years as well. The Buckle Up + For The People meta was also quite frustrating, due to it being a lose/lose chase extender for the killer if executed correctly by survivors. That one was around for a similar amount of time that the Made For This meta was around. I feel like it was worth mentioning Resilience being a significant aspect of the Made For This meta, as well as how that meta affected Legion and Plague far more than other killers. While not as long lasting, the Background Player meta is definitely worth mentioning, just for making nowhere on the map safe for a killer to pick up. I don’t miss any of the old metas. The overhaul behavior did was such a healthy change. Players still have some metas going on now but, at least there’s more variety in player builds now.
Honestly, what I find the most insane is that every single one of this metas ended due to nerfs/reworks and none due to players adapting, either becouse they refused to, like using Potential Energy against 3gens or totem perks/maps against Ruin+Undying or simply putting items in a corner against Weave Attunement, or becouse there was literally no counter, like CoH, MFT or the invincible build(UB+DS+DH+IW).

In retrospect, the original strength of CoH set in stone the decline of boons. The devs made both Dark Theory and Illumination very safe in comparison to it and that may be the case with every future boon. One thing I did like about the Weave Attunement meta is that Object got used more. It's not that bad of a perk imo. Also, Haddie 100% deserved a boon. She was robbed. Thank you for the video. ❤
I agree; I even ended up creating a boon for her: Boon: Foresight “With her love for uncovering dark secrets and capturing ghosts, Haddie has developed an uncanny ability to sense movement.” Press ‘Ability Button 1’ to bless a totem over 25 seconds, and chimes ring out in a 20/22\24 meter radius. Inside of the radius, the killers aura is visible at all times. This effect ends immediately upon exiting the radius. While inside of the radius, every 30 seconds your aura is revealed to the killer for 5/4/3 seconds.
I personally think metas in general are unhealthy, at least if they're in the game for a while. Noone wants to go against the same/best things over and over again, gets stale real quick.
Undying when it was first released definitely wasn’t healthy, especially wit the RNG of having to possibly cleanse 3-4 totems before the actual totem was gone, it was healthy after the rework because it became useful with other hex totems like Devour Hope as well as being less RNG based, allowing it to be more consistent
and Franklin x vecna perk.. everyone was giving up or dcing or just matches were lost at 5/4 gens because most people had no idea how to play around it, but ig op is just a killer main
the gaslighting of ruin/undying being a positive meta is crazy. in comparison to now? yeah, sure, but everything looks nicer in the rearview. if you weren’t running a totem perk on some of the maps, you’d *never* find those totems. you can still barely find some of them now.
@ eh? yeah, some of them are horrid totem spots, but a good portion of them are super hidden. if you got lucky and cleansed Undying first, yippee, only one more totem! but if you repeatedly cleansed the other it just jumped around and around and around, and could nestle its way inside another corner. i just find it funny that at the time it was deemed so unhealthy and more importantly unfair, but now it’s looked positively upon.
i'm missing the meta where all 5 dull totems were cleansed before the 5th gen was completed to avoid the noed on the endgame collapse. Especially during the times where nurse's blink strike wasn't a special attack. It was also in the time that totems had a more consistent spacing between them making it eazier to find the next totem after finding the first one.
Dead Hard abuse meta was definitely the most annoying one of all time. Same goes for the 3-gen killer meta. Though I would say that the worst meta of all time is the current killer meta, where everything is focused around tunneling/slugging
The weird thing about meta's is that it's an artificially created set of perks you should use and supposedly nobody wants to use. The only people who use meta perks are the die hard players who know exactly how to min max perks. People who use meta perks feel obliged because they think the other side will also use meta perks and both sides will blame BHVR for forcing this meta, even though BHVR gives you 200 perks to choose from. BHVR releasing perks for chests, totems and incantations and players will be "nah, those are a waste of time, just do gens" while complaining that BHVR forces players to genrush. Meanwhile baby Jane is having fun with Head On and baby Adam loves throwing pebbles around the map, while P100 Bill is raging behind his keyboard because his team is having a good time instead of being sweaty.
The Weaver/Franklins meta was bad because most people didn’t understand what was happening. When a new perk icon appears in your HUD as survivor; there’s no way to know what it is or what it does without having prior knowledge. DBD needs to have a way for players to be better informed in the game.

Great video as usual but I’m going to have to heavily disagree with hex undying being a good meta. It’s just another situation of making the bad killers viable and making the good killer unplayable and there really wasn’t any counterplay back in the day. Yes you can go around and find totems but unless you got a good map for finding them or know the totem spawns you were shit outta luck. The combo was a noob stomper and the only real counterplay that isn’t game knowledge for new players was maps which usually didn’t help that much or detectives hunch which is on a paid survivor and small game hadn’t had its full rework. However, nowadays I think it’d be a healthy combo with ruin nerfed and there being perks like counterforce and small game on the survivor side but then again pentamento is still a thing sadly.

I don't know man. I didn't hate it too much only because imo it was so unbelievably easy to counter. You just drop your item as soon as the trial starts, you see Weave icon, and you throw it in a corner. It gives almost no value to the killer. Does it suck to lose items? Yeah. But you don't really need them all that much to begin with. They're not imperative to gameplay. That's just me though.
@@Marverick1998 I agree with you, but it was a pain to deal with in Solo Queue. Trying to find an item another survivor dropped took too long and was annoying. The new changes definitely helps to alleviate that issue.

Not really a worst/favorite meta comment. But I do long for the old cold wind maps. They just need loop changes, other than that, those maps were perfect the way they looked before. Those cold wind clips brought back big nostalgia
You can look a d boons and hexes almost like a microcosm for how the role of killer a d survivor are handled on a balancing meta If it was fair boons would be just as easy to disable and keep diisabled like hexes are and the fact they arnt kinda shows the inherent bias no?
If the killer is running perks that activate on dull totems, it screws them over if they remove them. Also it takes time to re-boon a totem, not to mention finding one in the first place, and boons aren't as strong as they used to be, so no need for it as basekit
Most Effective Tactics Available. The meta hasn't changed. Gen regression and Gen progression is the meta. That's why everyone is burned out. What you're talking about is perk strength and combination powers over time.
Behavior unnecessairly butchered Circle of Healing and i'm going to die on that hill They could just turn down the healing speed boost or just do some range tweaks, but ofc they can't just do a good job
And now we have the glorious sluggy wuggy meta. Leads to lots of chases, gets rid of 2nd chances and doesn't punish the killer for hooking. Yeah it may be boring on the survivor side, but blame BHVR for being morons. Better get better at looping.
I don’t agree with the Weave Attunement/Franklin’s meta being liked and balanced. That was one of the ones I saw the most hatred for! Too strong on certain killers and way too easy to get value from. Especially when you weren’t aware of it and you try looping in an area that had it and the killer didn’t even have to try to mind game or anything. Turn your brain off perk combo and too strong for how easy it was. Glad that one’s gone lol
I'm sorry but no one loved the Franklin's and weave Attunement meta except for killers and it is still this way. Franklins is fine but weave is objectively bad for the game.
I started playing killer at the height of the DS/Unbreakable meta, and I think it’s the source of my constant anxiety towards playing killer. I just remember the early days of being a baby killer, not really knowing what I was doing or what was happening being surrounded by survivors with DS/Unbreakable, Head On, powerful flashlights…and toxicity to boot. These days, I don’t really get tilted by bully squads that often, unless they’re being genuinely toxic, but…my god. I know survivor mains don’t typically like to listen to killer perspectives, but I wish everyone in a lobby would remember that the players are people, too. It’s one thing to “play hard,” or play like a “bully squad.” It’s another to actually BE the bully.
The biggest problem rn is that the killer has to have atleast 2 anti gen perks because without them, all gens are through before you down your first survivor
My least favorite meta of all is Dead Hard. It just practically gave the survivor a free boost to pallet or window if they were going to get hit, and you could use it way more often. Almost every survivor had it at the time.
The hex meta, when thrill of the hunt was still at 70% slower cleansing speed. It encouraged killers to not tunnel and not camp hooks(Devour hope), added an additional task for survivors to do(Cleansing totems), prevented the killers from being too aggressive since they had to keep an eye on their totems. Could've actually allowed bhvr to buff boons again since hexes can become stronger thanks to this perk. it was short lived since so many content creators constantly made videos on how it should be "Nerfed" or its too "OP" which lead to survivors to send complaints until it got reduced to 60. I am fine with the way it is now, but we could've had a different playstyle for once, other than just pop, corrupt, lethal, painres, eruption. at that time I had a game where I was dueling a hillibilly with his totems(Cleanse his hex, he relights it, I find it again. repeat)
Honestly, the boon meta was the worst for me. I play twins/artist and having Circle of healing in every single match was brutal, so I actually had to start bringing Shattered hope
I'll give the mft meta this. It made me quit killer for months after being tired of the gaslighting the perk made me endure. I exclusively played survivor and actually enjoy the role a lot now. So I guess mft's existence caused me to play a role I never tried much and made me better at the game in general. I boycotted mft even on survivor though lmao. 😅
I find it hard to say any meta is good. Some are definitely better than others but metas are inherently bad for the game as they limit build variety and show the game is unbalanced.

Vecna got release in Version 5.5.0?
Did i miss a page? :D

I’ll take the bait. 10:40 “uhmmm acshually it’s not unsufferable it’s insufferable there buddy” 🤓
Not really a worst/favorite meta comment. But I do long for the old cold wind maps. They just need loop changes, other than that, those maps were perfect the way they looked before. Those cold wind clips brought back big nostalgia

Ruin being nerfed to 100% from 200% is what killed that meta imo
is so sick to see reknak dude
You can look a d boons and hexes almost like a microcosm for how the role of killer a d survivor are handled on a balancing meta
If it was fair boons would be just as easy to disable and keep diisabled like hexes are and the fact they arnt kinda shows the inherent bias no?
I still cant understand wy they make shattered hope a park and not the base kit mechanic in the first place
If the killer is running perks that activate on dull totems, it screws them over if they remove them. Also it takes time to re-boon a totem, not to mention finding one in the first place, and boons aren't as strong as they used to be, so no need for it as basekit
Never understood the term Toxic in games , What defines it ? its just Strong perks the Devs made. Its not cheating or anything like that
Everyone this azhymov is hey 🗣🔥
Most Effective Tactics Available.
The meta hasn't changed. Gen regression and Gen progression is the meta. That's why everyone is burned out. What you're talking about is perk strength and combination powers over time.
Behavior unnecessairly butchered Circle of Healing and i'm going to die on that hill
They could just turn down the healing speed boost or just do some range tweaks, but ofc they can't just do a good job
"boon meta" and it's just circle of healing being the issue 😭
What about the buckle up and for the people meta?
And now we have the glorious sluggy wuggy meta. Leads to lots of chases, gets rid of 2nd chances and doesn't punish the killer for hooking. Yeah it may be boring on the survivor side, but blame BHVR for being morons. Better get better at looping.
Worst wasn't any one survivor using a meta but when 3-4 using the same meta... Just made those games boring, even when getting hooks.
Idk if it was considered meta but old ultimate weapon i hated so much
FTP+buckle up and flip flop+ boil over
Original pain resonance was awful to deal with as a survivor and original metal of man was awful to deal with as a killer
What about more recent meta from 2022-2025?
A nice trip down memory lane. Well... not "nice" exactly but... how are we still playing this game?
I don't play meta perks anymore.
I just have fun with meme/niche builds
Hello friends, this is azhymov
Maybe not as bad as the gen kick meta but running around trying to find 5 200% regression ruins was NOT fun at all 💀
6:27 ah yes! Agitation! My favorite original perk…
Btw, NO, that’s not a killer base perk. IRON GRASP is what he should have said.
9:12 also Ruin got 1000% nerfed. But judging by the bad commentary I guess I will just leave it at that.
Ok, I’ll give only 1 quick example. Old ruin killed the Progression bonus of great skill checks.
And there were more strats.
6:49 what is the middle perk jake uses?
Saboteur
saboteur with it's original icon, back when it also worked on bear traps
My show is on
Bring back For the People meta build!
Hex metas are the best because they give another objective instead of the same old game
Can the goat say hi?
Hi
So basically all killer metas were good and all siv meta were bad
All metas are boring. Meme builds are goated
I'm sorry but no one loved the Franklin's and weave Attunement meta except for killers and it is still this way. Franklins is fine but weave is objectively bad for the game.
So svery broken killer meta = healty and every broken killer meta = unhealthy. No way are you claiming Franklin's+Weave was a healthy meta LMAOOOO

So basically all killer metas are good and survivor metas are toxic or a crutch. Got it.
Wdym gen kicking meta was boring we all know it was extremely fun to play same gen until server closes
This whole video is killer meta good survivor meta bad.
@@atmodlee what does this even have to do with what I said bruh💀

Dead by Daylight
Ruin Undying was NOT a healthy meta
This is the earliest i am, isnt that cool?
The biggest problem rn is that the killer has to have atleast 2 anti gen perks because without them, all gens are through before you down your first survivor
Smash. Easy test
Hello everyone
Smash, next question
No
Buckle up + For the People was the WORST metal ever
I am fine with the way it is now, but we could've had a different playstyle for once, other than just pop, corrupt, lethal, painres, eruption. at that time I had a game where I was dueling a hillibilly with his totems(Cleanse his hex, he relights it, I find it again. repeat)
Hex meta is even more boring than any other meta sadly
@@FlexTutgen kick meta stalling games completely?
@ at least survs had their own op meta at the time (made for this)🤷🏾♂️
Honestly, the boon meta was the worst for me. I play twins/artist and having Circle of healing in every single match was brutal, so I actually had to start bringing Shattered hope
dee bee dee
I hope you're doing well! 🩷🩷
👍
Well looks like I'm the first comment sooo Ookooʻmookunumukumammakamuku
I find it hard to say any meta is good. Some are definitely better than others but metas are inherently bad for the game as they limit build variety and show the game is unbalanced.
My favorite meta is "Playing with Friends"
This guy is so biased towards killer it’s not even funny, will mute and not recommend
controversial take but old ruin with skill checks need to come back
Old dead hard too then.
