My son bought a clean 2007 klx 300r but it's a beast to try to kick start... so much so that he stripped the spur gear and clutch housing gear the second time riding it. He's swapped all the parts, flushed the case several time, ran a magnet through it but we need to figure out why it happened in the first place and make this thing easier to kick. Would the valves be out of adjustment make it almost impossible to kick start? We've tried all different types of scenarios and sequences and it's always hard to start (yesterday he gave up after an hour).
@@CraigWright-r8s yes it absolutely would, if the valves are out of adjustment it will cause it to be hard to start especially when cold because as the shims heat up they will change thickness slightly.
I enjoyed your video. Getting ready to do the valves on my KLX250s. Think I would have left the intake clearance alone because the gap only gets greater as you put more miles on it? That's just me anyway. Thanks again!
@@Kawboy13 thank you! If the clearance is right on the edge of spec then I would go and adjust it so it’s slightly in the middle, that way whether it tightens or loosens over time you will be fine. Good luck you got this!
@@diin5938 there are a lot of service manuals online for this bike, unfortunately you have to pay for them. Mine was the “Cyclepedia” which is available online too.
The owners manual I was using stated it was for 1997-2008 KLX300’s. They should be relatively similar but yours is fuel injected unlike the 2007 in this video. I would double check the specifications for your bike as they may not being similar because of that.
I Just did the valves on my 09 klx250 and this video is a great resource to make sure you do everything properly! Great work!
Thank You brothuh! I’ve never done a valve check/adjustment for the shin type and this made things much less intimidating.
@@trustmedood glad I could help! You got this!
Best video I've seen for this procedure , thanks Man !

Same procedure for a 2022 KLX 300 I’d assume, yes?
