Many people don't realize that IF we were growing as much hemp as we should be, everything hemp related would go down in cost. The hemp industry is starting to get huge.

I can't help but feel that this product is so relevant to our needs in the United States. We need this industry to fully get airborne in the next couple of years. This would be great for new homes in the west coast. Anybody rebuilding in those areas should be using this stuff.

We use hemp shavings in our chicken coop roost area to absorb and help decompose the poop from our chickens. Our initial application has lasted 6 months now with just an occasional stir to mix it up. Still absolutely no smells produced! This stuff is amazing. We will probably put it in the compost pile in another six months and swap with a new batch.

Hi Belinda, awesome video & thumbs up. In South Africa, we have been exploring Hempcrete. My partners & I are developing a greener/eco form of concrete, through Biochar. I have researched hempcrete & have theorised that; that combining hemp to our Biochar base mix will mitigate the lack of structural integrity from hempcrete, in our opinion, hempcrete lacks the compressive strength needed, while showing good signs of tensile strength. Our Biochar cement mix lacks tensile strength while offering superior compressive strength. We attribute this to the lack of silica & is due to the lack of traditional stone & sand aggregates normally used with concrete. I believe hemp can provide the missing silica due to its composition properties.
Our Eco building products are still in development stage & we in SA are still waiting on the legalization of cannabis farming, so we can carry our concept forward.
Anywho great video & thank you for sharing the knowledge!

I’ve been paying attention to hempcrete since about 2014/2015 when I was 14/15 years old. I have major desire to move to Alaska and buy land to off-grid on someday, and am *seriously* excited for the cost of hempcrete to be down by the time I’m able to go about it for its insulation properties. Only know about it because of how many testimonies in a row I was hearing about having such good retainment of thermals tiny houses were being made without HVACs at all.
PS thanks for mentioning Hempwood too! It’s an awesome material I’m still learning about as I go with it, but am making a craftsmanship venture around it, it is very strong. Very different from planks and is more similar to OSB (found that out the hard way when I tried to chisel it) but it’s good.
    Great video 👍🏼

Belinda Carr How good the video was it was a pleasure to watch! I’ve just now found your channel and finished watching your video on Musk’s Boring Bricks before being routed to this video, I just may be subscribing today though, they’re both very good. I do have hope to TH-cam my ventures there as well, get myself a Starlink subscription and try it out, maybe you’ll come across one someday 😄 the Hempwood too, the company sells them direct through the website, I live in Pennsylvania just outside Pittsburgh so the shipping time’s short - I actually just received another plank yesterday. However, there’s an around two week delay on getting materials shipped out, as they have a lengthy creation process - I do not yet know the details of why, but, for a product that not only doesn’t deforest but is also made of a material giving new hope to farmers and environmentalists all around North America, I say it’s a good thing I’m patient hahah.

From my own research hempcrete seems like the ideal material along with a timber or steel frame. Thanks and please do more on hempcrete! My favorite material at the moment.

  • @nothingmuch2023

Some other benefits of hempcrete is, you. can reuse it. Up to 10% of a new batch can be old, crumbled walls, and you won't lose any of the benefits of hempcrete by using that amount.
If you've still got some left over, you can crumble it and use it as a soil amender, creating a more alkaline soil. Aside from using goggles and a good face mask when you're building/demoing, and not ending up with the lime/water mix on you, it is not carcinogenic or dangerous to the environment, like so many other insulation materials are. I sure as heck wouldn't grow my veg in old rockwool or foam insulation, but composting hempcrete? No problem!
Add to that the lack of trapping water in the wall, since the material is hygroscopic and monolithic... this is above and beyond my favorite insulation material. So glad you made a video about it!

    • @NouriaDiallo
      @NouriaDiallo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It's commonly done in France. There are projecting machines to quickly plaster masonry walls. It is usually mixed with less lime (or gypsum or clay, or a mixture) so it is more insulating. For very thick applications, you may need to install a wooden structure made of perpendicular cleats, to embed in the plaster.
I just realized you probably meant with hempcrete bricks. It is done too, using very thin joints.

I think this is the perfect time if any to use hemp in construction to help mitigate climate change. we can cut down our co2 emissions but we also NEED to pull carbon out of the air in tandem. Hemp concrete can pull some of the carbon out while being used to infrastructure. i just have serious doubts the people in power are actually go to do something, and not just keep everything the way it is until they die, which is no longer their problem.

    Hemp IS Cannabis Sativa.
Difference is that hemp is the name used when speaking about the plant grown for industrial purposes where cannabis (latin name) is more commonly associated with psychoactive properties at which point the term marijuana is also used to refer to it.
Main difference is as you have pointed out the THC content due to legality. Now comes the funny bit - Cannabis grown in the colder climate (e.g. Europe, North America) usually doesn't have enough THC and you need a hot and humid climate for the plant to produce THC. It's the same plant though, even if the plant would change through generations to addapt to the climate (say seeds brought from warm humid grown plants would produce more thc in the cold than their local counterparts, but this would level itself out in a generation or two; also vice versa). This is why plants grown for thc are usually grown indoors - to simulate these tropical conditions.
Great video overall, I just could not leave the canabis/hemp/marijuana scheme at the beginning. People should know it's the same plant. Nothing positive or negative, just how it is.

I'm guessing that the five thumbs down this videos received are courtesy of the last diehard supporters of the more conventional providers of insulation, cladding, flooring, sealant and resin based building materials and finishing products... Do you provide videos for building industry based educational purposes. As a one time student, I beleive that we could have benefitted greatly from presentations such as these.

You may want to add in the picture of hemp the Buds for high CBD hemp. While still being under .3% THC = industrial hemp . THC in regular marijuana doesnt start at 17%. Much lower actually.

CBD stands for cannabidiol, NOT "Cannabanoid" (which is a misspelling of cannabinoid). Cannabinoid is a collective term for all the chemicals that are unique or distinctive to cannabis plants.

Marijuana is not a good word to define it. Hemp is a variety of cannabis sativa. And the only difference as you said is the level of THC which will define if it is hemp or cannabis.
Also, you have varieties of cannabis plants with a high level of CBD. it's not correct to say that cannabis is just high THC et low CBD. Most important, a plant with CBD will have psychoactive effects but no psychotropic effects.

I also want to point out, for the courageous entrepreneur types... if hemp can restore the health of our soil and clean the air (absorb carbon), THEN create all these amazing renewable, non-toxic, environmentally friendly materials for a multitude of industries (about 50,000, last time I checked), it has Intrinsic, Self-Evident, Tangible Value...
It can back our sovereign national currency, and of course, the paper money could be printed with hemp as well. Nothing backs the current currencies (Yen, Yuan, USD, CAD, Euro, BSP, etc.) but belief (a false belief); all the world's currencies are worthless, as we are finally beginning to realize with the hyperinflation. Do you realize that this can free us from the debt-based, fiat, Babylonian-cursed money system that has enslaved humanity for centuries. No more endless wars, no more foreclosures, interest manipulation, inflation, etc., b/c WE control what we grow and the industries that come from it.
Just the paper and timber industry alone... no more cutting down sacred trees! Hemp steel, as well, retooling contemporary steel production, which contributes 7% of the global pollution and energy consumption. Imagine....
This is HUGE. If anyone wants to collaborate, hit me up here or on my channel. We can swap email addresses and schedule some conference calls. This is so exciting... imagine to be free from the federal reserve system and the IRS!
    Vaminos familia... let's do this!
