I shot my first buck from sitting position last fall..because of you teaching it I decided to try it. Thanks jeff
Man that's awesome Norm!! Likely had zero clue you were there....
It’s so cool seeing advanced hunters and their success, what a cool way to show people how to do it. Get it done yourself. This season will be my third for bow hunting , Lord willing! Thanks for the free information Jeff.
Man, I stumbled across your videos when I was looking for info on setting up watering holes / scrapes and I have to say your videos about being effective with your overall approach (be it trail cams, entering the hunting area at the right time / direction, etc) while still, at the core, focusing on keeping the sport fun has really been a breath of fresh air.
I've been going down the rabbit hole of perfectly tuning the arrows to get more distance, when I never take a hunting shot past 35 yards.. I've been getting worried that my mechanicals aren't ideal based on other channels preaching single bevel fixed blades to shoot through bone, when the whole point isn't to take that shot anyways.. I've been putting pressure on myself to crank up my poundage for my max speed/momentum, when I've killed plenty of PA whitetail with my current poundage or even less.
Your channel has really helped me reset to what is important: being ethical, effective and having fun. So thank you for that. Keep making solid videos, because I know there are others out there like myself who need this bit of a reality check and a soft reset to get our minds in the right spot.
poundage is everything.you're absolutely right about blending in.keeping your outline up against the tree and practicing sitting with drawing straight back.if you can't draw straight you need to do one of two things...lower poundage or exercise! I'm 52 yrs old.i retired from the army in 09.i still do pushups.pushups will help strengthen your draw easily.also doing a bent over dumbell lift of 45 or 50 lbs.helps with drawing.ive been following you for years jeff.love your content as usual.always informative.
Just built my own ladder stands. A 2 man that me and a buddy just took a decent black bear out of last weekend and a single man stand thats being set up on the deer property. Ive always been a rifle hunter and got my first bow critter so off to the taxidermist the Bear went. Im hoping to have the same success this fall with a whitetail 🦌
How did u know I was moving my tree stand? U r certainly a magician. Thanks Jeff
Ha, that's great I hope it helps Mark!
Thanks again for the tricks of the trade!
Very good point on the draw weight. I pull 65# and I've practiced this in awkward positions and i KNOW i can always draw 65#!
Thank you for more information, will be my first year using a hang on stand, i will use ur suggestions to make a successful hunt this year
A crossbow has a real advantage, no need to stand or draw.
It's a tough call. Heavier, more cumbersome, less of a narrow profile...especially vertical like a tree. Harder to hang in a shooting position and keep your hands always too.
I will use a crossbow someday if I have to, but until then man I love just hunting with a bow. Seems so much smaller and easier in the tree to me. This sitting with a bunch of kids using them...man what a pain, lol
This is something that’s sets apart deer watchers and deer killers
Amen! There should rarely be a time when a deer gets by without a shot opportunity. Very rare...
Lifelines are the cheapest insurance out there, always a good idea on fixed stands
So true Alex, great point! Critical...
so true, another huge advantage i have found of the life line is ease of safety harness placement. sometimes my harness was getting in the way of my shot because i had fixed position attachment points and any shot to my right the tether was in the way of my right elbow. using the lifeline really helps negate that
Certain that most know this but be in the shade whenever possible. Sun on your moving bow or hands and face are killers.
Good point! Hard tho when the leaves are off in November. I actually don't consider the sun just because it's the the exact spot the stand has to be in...best tree available, regardless of where the sun will be shining. If you are sitting and can draw straight back and have decent cover you will be fine 😊
Or, sun directly to your back. I've had bucks look straight at my tree with sun over my shoulder, much harder for them to see you when they are looking into the sun. same with people us. ever look into the sun in the woods and try to see deer. cant see much of anything in the woods when sun is coming through the trees
😁🦌
Just blowing away th competition, ha
