One thing which they (and others) could do is have an alternate animation for when characters are paused, *_but still in a fight._* Instead of pausing and standing straight up, they could be bent at the waist, like they are more *_ready_* to start fighting again. It seems like that would be more immersive and not break the flow of an action sequence. Just a crazy notion.
