    I had a fitting this season and went with the i210. Could not be any happier. My handicap closed at 5.5 from 8.1 to start. Including two 1 over 73’s. They look great and the feel is awesome, even though it is not forged. If you want an iron that looks, feels, performs and won’t break your wallet, go hit them. They will be in my bag for a long time.

    I am a plus 2 handicap and have been playing the ping Ei irons for about 5 years. The groves are wearing and it is time for new ones, in fact, my gap wedge is worn smooth in the middle. I think your video has convinced me to stay with ping, the 210s look like the obvious replacements for my Ei's. I have absolutely loved my pings. I played high school and college golf with the original ping eye 2s.

    I went for the Ping i210's because of two things. Lenght consistency and feel. I really liked the Mizuno MP-20 MMC's as well and dispersion wise they where the best for me but I chose lenght control as a priority. I am very happy with the choice and recommend trying them out.

    Great job! Really appreciate the data and information. A lot of your data back up my demo experience and I personally ended up with the Ping i210. I found the i210 was the most forgiving down to the 4 iron, and even the set 3 iron was doable to elevate whereas the other brands did not offer.

    I have a set of MMC’s with a 4 iron HMB and they are fantastic feeling irons and very forgiving. I play off 12 but these irons are very playable for a wide range of handicaps if your ball striking is decent. I also owned a set of I210’s that were great but didn’t have that wow factor feel of the Mizzy’s. I’m sure the Miura also feel superb

    I have played the New Level irons for the 2019 season, 902/623 combination and I concur with the inconsistency as well. The most shocking part was the extreme wear on the face after one season of play. The wear was the equivalent to 3 yrs of with with my old Mizuno PM69’s.

    Although my handicap usually might not warrant these clubs (12) though rapidly decreasing actually in testing many clubs I went for the p760 which I have really liked. Being in my 60s looking for that little extra distance but with far less dispersion so a challenge. Recently switched to the pxg 0211 with similar shaft (lz shortstepped). So far so good but prefer the feel of the p760s. Not tried miura or mmc as left handed and not so easy to find if even available. But good to see this test done well. Ps working on ones game (esp short game) and fitness (at my age especially!) has proven far more important than the clubs for the improvement that has happened.

    Great job y'all. This is the category I tend to fall into, so it's nice to see such a thorough test. I have watched practically every available youtube review/test out there of clubs in this category, and what has really stood out to me is that the dispersion on the Ping i210 is always astonishing. I think it's time I try them out. I'm just concerned about feel & sound. I've always played forged and I just cant stand a 'clacky' sounding, hard feeling club. Keep up the great work.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Bo - we appreciate the kind words! Obviously feel and sound are so subjective and there's no denying that the i210s are cast as opposed to forged, so you'd ultimately have to decide if the sound and feel was something that you could live with. That said, for a cast club, the feedback we get about the i210 when it comes to feel is usually more positive than negative. Thanks again!

      I moved from M1s which definitely had a clicky/clacky sound to the i210s this summer. Sound is far better, you can get the odd clicky sounding shot (but only very rarely) but generally a really nice sounding and feeling club. Because the MP20 range was not out when I changed, I did test the i210s against 919 Forged and for me the i210 was the better more solid feeling club. Either the i210s or the MP20-MMC would be great choices

    I would love to see you do a similar review of hollow headed irons, which over the past two years seems to have been the hottest iron segment in golf. The usual suspects would be Ping i500/700, Taylormade P790, PXG Gen 2 0311 T, Mizuno M20 HMB, Cobra Forged Tec, and also the Honma T//World-X. It is difficult to find a review on the Honma, but what I have seen is that it may have the tightest dispersion of any of the hollow bodied irons.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chester, we did a Players Distance Iron review a couple of weeks ago. They weren't all hollow irons, but P790, Forged Tec, i500, and MP-20 HMB were all included, along with the Callaway Apex 19, Titleist T200, and the Srixon Z 585. We're working on getting Honma fitting components so we can do some testing with their product in the future. Anyway, you can see that video here - th-cam.com/video/ud_juido7d0/w-d-xo.html - Thanks.

    Looking forward to this ! I see the Ping i210 is in ! Awesome. Ive recently posted on your page about the lack of backspin I’m getting from my Apex Pro Forged 19’ irons i was custom fit for In early February 2019 by Club Champion NJ. THe fitter & I were blown away by the 10-12 yard distance gains i got with the 5 iron compared to at the time my X-Forged ‘18 5 iron. During my fit with Trackman i got the following #’s. Keep in mind it was the first time a swing a club since Nov 2018,, so i was clearly not in summer form:
    5 Iron: 3,938 rpm backspin, 84 mph clubhead, 119 mph ball speed , 17.3 launch, 1.42 smash, 179 yds carry, 89 ft height, -2.3 AOA
    7 iron: 4,465 rpm. , 80 mph. ‘ 108.5 mph. , 18.0 launch, 1.36 smash, 155 yds. . 75 ft. , -5.0
    9 iron: 5,575 rpm. , 78 mph. , 96.7 mph. , 19.1. , 1.24. , 128 yds. , 61 ft. , -7.4
    roll out yardages, 5 iron: 13 yards
    7 iron. 12 yards
    9 iron: 11 yards.
    Playing a premium Snell MTX ball, Over my 21 rounds this year i didn’t get 11 yards of rollout from 9 iron, greens were relatively soft, but i was getting more than 3 feet of rollout , but not 33 feet.
    Sitting home recovering from rotator cuff surgery, over the holidays and I’ve emailed the fitter at Club Champion NJ letting him know ill be coming in the spring time for a “Re-fitting” to the Ping i210’s. Planning on swapping out my Modus 3 Tour 105 S shafts and connectors.
    To be honest i need to complain about his lack of letting me know of how low the backspin #’s, low launch and low height i got from Trackman. I deserve to get “refitted” for free or a reduced $ amount.
    I love the look and feel of the Apex Pro Forged 19’irons but I’d rather go for the Ping i210’s for dispersion and control !!

    • @thomascampbellgolf
      @thomascampbellgolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stephen. You will like this video! Apex Pro defiently spins less which is how you can pick up some distance. Pay attention to the height and landing angle if the landing angle is steep enough you can get away with less spin, as the ball will still stop on the greens. I too played the 19 Apex Pro irons for a couple months but ultimately they did not spin enough for me outside and went too far, so I switched to more blade like clubs. Love the forgiveness and look of the club Yes we also included the i210s they tested very consistent! Look forward to your feedback.

    • @stephendibari7704
      @stephendibari7704 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Campbell thanks Thomas ! My Trackman #’s from my fitting only had ball speed, launch angle and Height; landing angle wasn’t part of the data.
      Based on those 3 parameters I can use trajectory algebra equations to calculate the actual landing angles ! This has now made me curious to see What are acceptable landing angles for a 5, 7 and 9 iron ?
      For those 3 irons, Do you know what is an “acceptable” landing angle ? If not, dont worry, ill google it.
      This will just confirm what i think I already know, these irons spin too low and carry out too far
      Im home through Jan 1 recovering from rotator ciff surgery, i wouldnt mind doing some math!
      Yes, im looking forward to seeing your comparison video and ultimalely the data from your matchups.
      As you said the Ping i210’s are very consistent and that’s what I’m looking for, want to know what each club will carry consistently.
      I favor Ping over other companies for their engineering and design. Also love their G410+ metal woods lineup. When I go back for my “refitting” in the spring 2020, I’ll be comparing the G410+ driver, 3W, 5W, 3H and 4H to my current F9’s.
      I need more forgiveness, especially in the driver.
      Cheers
      Stephen

      2nd Swing Golf I’m actually in Staten Island, NY. I just googled your Wilmington PA location, it’s just under 2 hours drive from me. Bit far but Sounds great.
      I’ll keep in touch as my Physical Therapy finishes up on my shoulder. I’m hoping I’ll be ready to swing again full out by April 2020.
      My fitter from Club Champion NJ fitted me for all Accra shafts in my woods fX 2.0 360 M4 in driver and FX 2.0 200F M4 in fairways & FX2.0 200H M4 in hybrids. My plan was too swap out
      My F9 heads into G410+’s and keep my same shafts/grips. (Change connectors). These are expensive shafts and was hoping to keep them, although if I hit a different shaft combo with the G410+’s I’ll see what plays out.
      TBH, I was caught by sticker shock of what I was charged by those Accra shafts, the driver shaft was about $360, fairways about $250, hybrids low 200’s. I’m going off memory, I have the actual order slip filed away.
      Also want to swap out my Vokey SM7 heads into Ping Glide 3.0. (54 and 58 deg)
      Curious, swapping out my Apex pro forged heads into Ping i210’s would you order new PING i210’s heads and you do the installation ? Or with Ping you have to have them build the whole club/shaft from scratch ?

    • @thomascampbellgolf
      @thomascampbellgolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephendibari7704 Typically once I start to see a landing angle drop below 40 degrees it does make it harder for the ball to stop on the green, unless there is a lot of spin on the ball. With an iron 40 degrees and above is acceptable. Tour average with a 7 iron is about 50 degrees, for your average amateur 42-43 degrees. The goal is to keep the landing angle and peak height pretty consistent through the bag. If you start to see that landing angle drop below 40 degrees especially with those 3-4 irons it may be time to consider a hybrid, unless you are purely using those clubs as a driving iron to chase the ball down the fairway.

    This is for Thomas: Y'all did a fantastic job with this review! I'm very impressed with the consistency of your swing/strikes! Can you give a quick rundown of how you work thru a club fitting of a client? As a scratch player myself and former Class A PGA Professional who's interested in getting back into the golf business now that I'm retired, I'm particularly interested in how you work thru matching players with the proper length, lie angles, shaft flexes, etc. for iron sets. I do get up to the Twin Cities a few times per year and would love to drop in and chat. Thanks. -Greg

    • @thomascampbellgolf
      @thomascampbellgolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Greg, thanks for the comment. Here is a quick rundown of how we work through a club fitting at 2nd Swing. 1) Interview: we spend at least 5-10 minutes asking our customer questions to find out about their game, explaining our fitting process, and setting expectations and goals. Questions can include does your miss tend to be right or left? do you tend to hit it high or low? what club do you use from 150 yards? average score? been previously fit? how often do you play? Handicap etc? 2) Measurements: We perform static measurements (height, wrist to floor, hand size), If a player brings their current clubs measure the length, lie, swing weight, and take note of the type of clubs they are playing (model, loft, settings, shaft model, flex, weight, length,shaft profile, grip model and size), and get the player to warm up, and then take a look and analyze data once warm with their current equipment measuring their ball flight and swing characteristics (club speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch angle, spin rate, height, distance, hit location, angle of attack, path, club face, face to path etc).
      3) Evaluation for an iron or driver fitting we test 3-4 heads selected based on the interview and what matches their ability. This test is completed with the exact same golf shaft (eg 7 irons - Ping G410, Callaway Rogue, Mizuno Hot Metal, TaylorMade M6 all with a Modus 105 S standard length shaft, all STD lie). I let the customer hit 4-5 shots with each model and find out based on the data which head performed the best, based on efficiency/ball speed, dispersion, spin distance etc. Once we decide which head performed the best and ensure that the customer also prefers that model I will complete a shaft test hitting 4-5 shots with 2-3 other shafts testing a weight range to see if a customer hits a certain shaft better, higher or lower (eg. XP95, Modus 105, Project X, S300) For the most part I will match the length of the shaft with irons based on their static measurement (height: less than 5ft 6" -1/2", 5ft 7" to 6ft STD, 6ft 1"to 6ft 3" +1/2" etc) but if I notice a certain posture or hit location inconsistency we may change up the length of the iron shaft. With a driver if contact is an issue I usually lean towards a shorter shaft to try for accuracy. I also complete a dynamic lie angle test to confirm the static measurements are correct. A lot of the time your wrist to floor and height gives us a close measure but I always confirm dynamically as every golfers swing is different. Usually if they have a solid smash factor and their flight is straight I already know but I want my customers to be fully confident that their lie angle is correct. I prefer using face tape and a groove in the ball over using a lie board with tape on the sole, but both are effective. 4) Set Makeup: with irons I always have a discussion regarding the longest iron a customer feels comfortable with. With players with slower swing speeds or that need help getting the ball in the air I want them to get hybrids in their bag so they can hold the green easier. A hybrid will always spin more, launch higher, typically fly a little further than an iron and is much more forgiving. There is a reason why many sets these days don't even include a 3 iron. 5) Grip: I make recommendations based on a customers static measurements (hand measurements) and player preference. I like to have a player take their right hand off the grip (RH) and see if fingers are digging into the palm or if there is a gap. It's important ask the question about comfort as some players prefer a larger grip, and ball flight as some players benefit from playing a smaller or larger grip to help with shot direction. A typical iron fitting or driver fitting will take an hour. Full bag longer. Hope this what you were looking for.

      Hi Rockhound, not intentionally left out at the end. I have found the P760 to be little more spinny than other models in this category so if a player needs a little more spine with pretty solid consistency the P760 is a great option. I also love how the P760 is almost a hidden combo set with the longer irons being a little more forgiving and shorter irons more workable.

    Great video guys! I am trying to decide if this players cavity back is the right category for me. I have been fitted now for 3 players distance irons (p790, T200, PXG 0311 P) and find that the added distance is not something that I am really looking for. I do not need my 7-iron to carry 185+. I am coming from the R11 irons, which are cast cavity back, and I am also a much better player since getting those, now a 6 hcp.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! It sounds like you may be a candidate for a combo set of irons. Perhaps a set of players cavity clubs in the shorter irons and players-distance longer clubs in the longer irons? In the end, your preference is the most important factor. If you do prefer the look of a players cavity iron and don't feel the need for the extra distance, then testing out some of the models in this test is probably worth your time.

Frontrunner right now for me is T200, really because they are the least juiced up, in my opinion. I was really excited for the P790s but have ruled them out, they just feel way to explosive for my comfort, and also looked a little chunky to me. Really appreciate the input!

    It appears you guys do “group type “ testing (based on club types, categories) and not specifically head to head comparisons.
    That being said, I would like to see a head to head of cobra F9 Speedback (heavy weight forward) against Ping G410+ driver, fairways and hybrids, comparing Distance, dispersion and look/feel.
    I’m asking primarily because after a 20 rounds with F9 driver in my bag I can definitely see a wider dispersion and a less forgiving head.
    I’ve seen MyGolfSpy’s post of MOI’s of drivers. they measured the Ping G410+ as the 2nd highest MOI (highest MOI went to PXG) and F9 (heavy weight forward) had one of lowest MOI’s
    So I’m curious (and maybe many other viewers) to see what you find !?

      Stephen, you can actually find a lot of driver head-to-head tests on the channel but F9 and G410 Plus is not one that we have done. But we will add it to our list! Keep in mind that SpeedZone will be available in January from Cobra, so we'll be doing some testing around that driver, and we'll have a bunch of SpeedZone content that we recently gathered at Cobra HQ in California for you guys late next week. 2nd Swing Golf NIce to know you do head to head comparison’s. I’m aware of the new Cobra Driver, but TBH I’m looking to go all Ping, especially in the G410+’s woods and hybrids. Like i said in one of my earlier comments here, for me Ping is the leader in Engineering, design, and innovation. I love the consistency the i210’s produced in this comparison test !! And it proved distance wise with the tightest dispersion !

    • @stephendibari7704

      2nd Swing Golf THomas, after watching this comparison again, I’m really reveling on the MMC irons ! Now after my shoulder rehab is done , hopefully Late April/May I’ll be making the 2 hr drive to the PA tour van and get fit for irons and woods. As I previously posted about my unhappiness of the low spinning Apex Pro Forged in the 5-7 irons (similarly you mentioned it here), they are currently for sale on eBay! spread the word ! 🤣
      Based off this awesome players club comparison (and other TH-cam reviews ) I’m now leaning towards Ping i210, Mizuno MP20 MMC and TM P760. I see you favored the Mizuno MP20 MMC & Ping i210’s in this test over the P760’s. (Based off awesome consistency, feel and looks) And looks like your overall pick was the MMC’s.
      Side Note: Three years ago i had the JPX-900 Forged and liked the performance but felt with the use of BORON they felt a bit clicky and not very soft like a true forged iron. In fact just after 1 year of use, the grooves on the 8 iron collapsed !! It was 1 month outside warranty and Mizuno wouldn’t replace the 8 iron... In 2010 i was fit at an outdoor DEMO day (no launch monitor, strictly visual) for MP-58’s which was the predecessor of the MP-59’s and the MMC’s . The MP-58’s were my gamers for nearly 7 years before i went into the JPX 900 Forged. THey weren’t very forgiving ! Although not a true muscle back blade, if you hit them on the sweet spot they felt awesome, but definitely lost distance on mishits.
      Bottomline is I may be leaning towards the MMC’s over the Ping i210’s, yet I’m thinking the i210’s are more forgiving and the wider progressive bounce in the sole is easier with the turf interaction compared to the MMC’s I’m not a picker with my mid to short irons, i tend to take a nice divot almost a “digger” .
      Also coming off of my rotator cuff surgery I’ll be definitely looking to go graphite shafts. Since my JPX 900 Forged (2017) I’ve used the same Steel Nippon Modus3 Tour 105 S. It looks the UST Recoil 95 S would be an excellent shaft choice as a graphite alternative ? Do you agree ? I’m sure my fitter at the PA tour van will suggest a great shaft for my swing. My driver SS was 100 -102 mph last year before i hurt my shoulder

    Great reviewing - bit of a nightmare doing eight clubs but great information! Any chance you could pick a shot from each clubs' data with the same/closest similar club speed and compare the data rather than averages?🤔

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The concern we would have with that approach is that it doesn't provide enough of a sample size and it's definitely not the way we would compare irons in a fitting environment. Also, if we picked just one shot with each club based on the closest clubhead speeds, we'd be discounting the quality of strike for that one shot, which could create some disparities between clubs that simply wouldn't be there over multiple shots. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

    Good stuff.. in the long irons, what would you recommend as the highest launching, highest spinning and best feeling/looking of this bunch?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nate, that's a tough question because results will obviously vary from golfer to golfer. There's no question that if someone is looking for higher launch in their long and mid irons that the i210s will be a great option, and they typically offer good spin rates as well. PING always excels in that regard with its longer irons. We've also seen consistently higher spin rates with T100 through the set, while Apex Pro typically launches naturally high through the set. In terms of feel, all of these are going to feel really good in the grand scheme of things, but if the goal is that super soft, buttery feel, the Miura MC-501 and the Mizuno MP-20 MMC are very soft, and we find the P760 to be underrated in that regard as well. Thanks.

      2nd Swing Golf appreciate the feedback! Scratch player here, have a set of T100’s 6-PW and toyed around with T200 5 and 6 irons built as 4 and 5 irons, and they perform but terrible feel. Looking for something still with low offset and relatively thin top line, but maybe hair longer blade length and touch more forgiveness/distance vs T100’s just in the long irons. I may be totally overthinking this and just need to fill in the missing T100’s, but can’t hurt to try other options :)

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NateDog03sct Nate, trying other options is what makes golf fun! If the T100 6-PW have been good for you giving the long irons a try might be worth a shot. Or maybe even just the 5-iron and then jumping from there to the U-500, which looks pretty good and feels great. Beyond that, if long iron performance (launch and spin) is what's most important to you, the i210 would be worth a look. Good luck!

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wayne. One option that PING provides with its irons is the Power Spec option, which are slightly stronger lofts through the set to create more distance. You could explore that option provided the gapping in your bag still worked and your landing angles were still good with your mid and long irons. Beyond that, in terms of pure distance in this category, the Srixon Z 785 and Callaway Apex Pro have always stood out. Those two might be a bit smaller at address than the i210, however. Another option to consider would with the standard Callaway Apex 19. It creates a lot of distance as well and would be pretty close in size to the i210 - maybe just a little bit larger overall with slightly more offset in the longer irons. Thanks.

This club should appeal to both your typical cavity back and blade player. I would almost consider it a cross between blade and cavity back. Miura's full blade option is the MB-101. The Miura TC-201 would also fit the cavity back category and will be available for us to test at the end of Jan.
