The Monkees had a lot of courage and toured playing all their instruments . They became a real band !! They were number one as far as I’m concerned !!

Adam Schlesinger pairing XTC with the Monkees was genius.

Very informative, thank you! I listened to Micky on Alex Baldwin’s podcast recently and have been obsessing on the Monkees but didn’t really know the albums.

I really like Headquarters, Pisces, Birds and Bees. But I also like Instant Reply, Present, Head and Justus. 👍

Thanks to both of you for keeping the Monkees music and history alive!

Headquarters couldn't have been made without Peter's musicianship on several instruments. Mike wrote some great songs. Micky is one of the greatest pop/rock singers in the last 50 years. Pisces has aged really well and Headquarters is great for obvious reasons.

Great job as usual, guys!!! There wasn't one selection that got me bugged regarding its position on your Top 13 list...and that's really saying something!!! There are some folks that rank the "Present" album near the top of their list...There came a point where the group may have gotten too much freedom... Case in point: Micky came up with some nice ideas alright, but, as Peter had stated, he needed a songwriting partner to make sure the songs musically went in the right direction...To be honest, I really like "We'll Be Back In a Minute" more than any of his other compositions on here!!! The album lacks dynamics, and would have benefitted from using the three songs (being considered at the time) from the CBS Saturday-morning repeats that were never released officially to give it more life...The explosive "Steam Engine" by 'Chip' Douglas, despite its large budget for the brass section, might have been a great single for them...The infectious "Good Clean Fun" managed to hit the Top 30 on the US Adult Contemporary chart, and briefly appeared in Ingrid Bergman's 1969 comeback film, "A Walk in the Spring Rain," when she turns on the radio while driving into town in North Carolina during the winter!!! Regarding the other later albums, "The Birds, the Bees and the Monkees" and "Instant Replay" suffer from poor sequencing of the songs: "Dream World" and "I'll Be Back Upon My Feet" could have been reversed as the opening track on the opposite side...Except for the busy bass line, it's not a strong album opener, while "You and I," "While I Cry" and "Teardrop City" might have made a great triple-punch to open their seventh album with...Finally, the "Head" album could have used the monk-sung chant version of "Happy Birthday to You" to help fill out the soundtrack!!! Thanks again...
