    I managed to unseize my virtually brand new lawnmower following your video! *don't ask how I managed to seize it, just know that I did* The local shops told me I needed to junk the mower but I was determined to get it going, which is what led me to TH-cam. Thank you for this informative and entertaining video.

    Thank you so much. I was ready to scrap the machine before this. I used liquid wrench penetrating oil in an aerosol can with a straw; I spayed a lot in the hole waited a couple hours then I used the electric start. It worked like a charm!

    A HUGE THANK YOU !! I went to till my garden and forgot to check the oil in my 7hp Tecumseh Aries tiller. Half way through the garden I heard the dreaded sound of metal on metal. I thought O'CRAP you got to be joking. I knew it was done,so I checked the oil just to amuse myself,sure enough there was none. Before I went ahead and switched engines I checked out your video. All I had was PB Blaster,I filled the cylinder full ,let it sit overnight and it WORKED. Engine will now turn.THANK YOU!

    Suggestion on penetrating oil. A spray can of graphite impregnated penetrating oil. Could be the difference between working or not.

    Certainly going to give this a shot. Have a 10hp on a generator that ran fine one day, then a blizzard came through and when I tried to start it to warm up the tractor in the field, was stuck. I paid very little for the generator, so if it needs some parts, no big deal. But I hope it's just a little "rust " or something from sitting outside vs inside. I had it sitting outside where it would be plugged into house if power went out during ice storm/blizzard.
    I guess I will store it under cover from now on.

    Mind U- it was a TWO STROKER... AND as I said - the piston must have been ? about five or six INCHES across (dia)
    Sure - it didn't HAVE much compression - but then - ANYTHING was better than the nothing we HAD- before - with busted rings?

    Dunno what Ur bale twine's like - but ours is "pretty_open_weaved' and useless for what I wanted - that's why I used the super heavy duty - fine thin WOOL BALE "sewing" cords (also - I heavily sooked the resultant "NEWRING... in engine oil for a few days- before I "run it in- in five minute bursts... (Aparently - after we SOLD the machine - ten yrs later... a mechnic who repaired it for the buyer- THOUGHT it was a genuine part?

    It worked with 3-in-1 all purpose penetrating oil . Had to wait 3 days.
    Last snow fall, I got the blower to work really hard in huge snow bank left by the snow plow. I think she went hot but didn't run out of oil. The day after, when i came to start it up, the crank wouldn't budge. Then I asked to relatives and browsed the internet to find this video. When I told the employees the reason why I needed "Liquid Wrench", they stayed polite but their comments had a sarcastic tone. Actually no one, even myself, didn't really beleive it.
    Thanks for posting!

    Dad used to have an OLD? dunno what it was called (not a Howard anyway - they were Orangy_Red) ? Nah this was a squat "ugly" Red & Green 6HP beast of a thing - with a single banger PISTON - but as a "kiwi lad- no money - less brains - I tried to MOVE a frozen motor with an iron bar (worked but broke the ring?rings - anyways I unbolted it's cylinder & WRAPPED some wool_bale_twine around it's huge piston - it worked too)

  • @QUIX4U
    @QUIX4U 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    apparently - because I'd tighly wrapped the YARD length of dense hemp cord & soaked it in heavy oil - it slowly "conditioned" that "ring" - until it became very hard - & almost like "bakelitte" .to the extent - that it FOOLED a fully "qualified" Motor "mower" mechanic..
    Was 8 -10 yrs before they contacted me - and said their mechanic NEEDED to know where I had sourced the unusual "ring"
    (&)
    I just tossed several strands of WOOLBALE sewing cord at him?

    5w or thinner oil works as well. PB blaster works well also. If its really stuck some old tractor guys use a grease fitting in the spark plug hole.

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    ... Not sure what machine you have but most likely gas/oil mix thus you can't change the oil out. If it DOES free up, expect it to choke and puke pretty good when and if she fires up. You may need to pop the heads off and see whats going on if you have no success freeing it. They can trap a lot of moisture if not stored right or not used for a long time, could be pretty buggered up in there. Hope this helps a bit, I'm no pro, just a backyard mechanic kinda guy.
    Good Luck, let me know ok?

    I tried your Liquid Wrench trick on my 40 yr. old "siezed" Tecumseh snowblower engine, but the starter pull still wouldn't turn the motor. HOWEVER, after I'd removed the starter assembly enough to expose the finned flywheel, I was able to free the motor by using a firm grip on the fins to rotate the flywheel BACK & FORTH. Now, the engine starts with the pull rope, and runs just fine! (Similar to an old car trick: with the car in 4th gear, rock it back and forth to free a "seized" engine).

  • @luvthesnow
    @luvthesnow 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe this engine wasn't seized up. Have you ever had the head off to decarbon the piston top and head? I'm thinking it had carbon built up on the piston and head and "bottomed out" so to speak just before or at top dead center. The Liquid Wrench dissolved some of that and let you pull it over the top. Good video.

    If a little trans fluid/diesel oil/wd40/olive oil/anything guys think of using doesn't work, the 'greaseplug' idea seems to work. I have heard that it will sometimes crack a cylinder, so I'd use it more as a last resort. Do an online search on 'seized enigne grease gun' or 'grease plug'. I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about pretty easy.

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bowhunternick12 I did, but for no particular reason other then to keep things from falling into it or whatnot. Would probably help keep the penetrating oil from evapourating too quick though now that I think of it.

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @curtismundy There is no reason it shouldn't other then the fact that it is seized beyond this methods abilities (works GREAT but it doesn;t perform miracles). It is a patience game. It has saved me having to do a tear down on a few different occasions!! Just remember to change out the oil when yer done and GOOD LUCK!! Let me know if it works for ya!!

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    @joetolman Well, this is a patience game and it doesn't guarantee success because as you are most likely aware engines can seize for numerous reasons and extremities. Get yourself a WOOD dowel or a SOFT metal rod (I'd go with wood if your not sure what metal you have that you can use cuz you don't want to damage your piston head) Put it in the through the plug holes and give them a bit of a tap every once in a while. I've never tried a snow mobile engine yet.

    • @Goregoonswasteofspace
      @Goregoonswasteofspace 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Dube 1st question I have for you... Are you sure it is the motor that is seized or could it be your starter that's on the blitz? Have you tried pulling the cord as well to see if the motor turns over manually?
      That out of the way, it would definitely be worth trying. If it's truly a lawn ornament now than anything is worth a shot my friend.

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Glad to hear it! It's a patience game, if it has moved a bit, put some more into it cuz now you have a bit of a gap from where it was seized. The oil will go even deeper this time.

    I tried this on my 10 hp Tecumseh, but used 2 cycle mix oil. Interestingly, a lot of it ended up draining into the carb. Next time I'll unbolt the two carb bolts and put a piece of plastic or something between it and the engine, then reattach to keep the oil in the cylinder. But, it did free the engine piston. However, after starting it, it ran for 15 seconds then seized up and now won't budge. Guess an engine tear down is in order.

    • @Goregoonswasteofspace
      @Goregoonswasteofspace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the piston was stuck up top with the intake valve open and got itself a bit of overflow. Sorry to hear it seized up solid on ya though. I've had a couple do that to me over the years. It's a hit and miss kinda deal and all depends on why it seized up to begin with.
      Thanks for dropping by

  • @Goregoonswasteofspace
    @Goregoonswasteofspace 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @kylekyle22 If you ran that dry of oil and it seized, you may have more then you can deal with for wd40. Your crank shaft could be seized to the piston rod, piston to wall, combo of them both? All I can say is, you'll have to be patient with this one. Even if you free it, there could be irreparable damage.
    This works for many situations but it can't produce miracles.
    Good luck my friend and thanks for dropping by!

    Had problem with Generator Briggs & Stratton leaking gas out of air filter...float issue I guess. Fixed that (I think) but due to that problem, engine was seized up. I drained all the oil (really bad stuff, looked like gas in oil) and then the engine would actually turn over by pulling! I thought all was good, changed oil, then completely seized up again right after adding oil (can't pull starter rope). Drained oil again and tried penetrating oil...no luck. I am hoping it will be ok in a few days, but unfortunately we were hit by hurricane Irma and will be without power for quite some time. Very frustrating...thanks for the vid.

    I unseized a 4 horsepower industrial grade (cast iron cylinder) Briggs & Stratton motor a bit over a week ago as my new neighbours threw out some of our old neighbours stuff.
    It is a Supa swift lawnmower & I filled the cylinder up with engine oil,it was locked up because it was left outside in the rain,I could tell because the spark plug was rusted up.
    It at least needs new carby parts such as the throttle butterfly as they are missing,the pull start jams up (won't retract) so I have to find out why that's doing that.

    • @jeremiahmnjohnson
      @jeremiahmnjohnson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh ok. I seized the engine while running because the oil was low (stupid me). I did the pb blaster thing you told me to do. It didn't work. However, i took off the recoil pull assembly, than managed to free it up while turning the large nut mounting the fly wheel, with a leveraged wrench (used a pipe on socket wrench end). I ran it for a while after that, than changed oil. After dumping the oil into a pan, i discovered silver shavings. I felt like i was mining for gold after i tilted the pan side to side. I think i chewed up the Crank shaft,
      but The Tecumseh runs still works and runs fine.

      I seized up my john deer yesterday while running it in a blizzard. The oil fill cap came off without me knowing. Do you think its worth a shot doing what you did? Do you still run your thrower after you discovered the shavings? THanks

    • @jeremiahmnjohnson
      @jeremiahmnjohnson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, do the same procedure. 1. Take off spark plug, 2. spray pb blaster in hole where spark plug was. 3. Wait a day or so. 4. Than take off recoil assembly, 5. Using a large socket wrench, move fly wheel back and forth. 6. It will free up if the end of the rod is stuck on the crank shaft. 7. Put spark plug back in and try starting, than run a little the engine for a couple minutes. 8. Change oil............It is possible that you probably damaged the crank shaft. 9. Next, mine for silver shavings. 10. Re-fill with oil and run er good. 11. Possibly re-change oil again.

    • @jeremiahmnjohnson
      @jeremiahmnjohnson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      First check and see if you threw a rod, meaning the rod snapped in half and possibly damaged the housing. Do you see any holes on the outside of the housing? If so, this is beyond a simple fix. The motor needs to be rebuilt with
      a new rod and crankshaft.

    "Dances with wolves" explained to the tribe that Shaman Tecumseh likes to expose his rod. He's been doing it for years. Chief stood up, took a hit of smoke pipe and passed it on to the rest of the counsel.
    "Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."
