My name is Anna. At 45, I’ve always been a dedicated housewife, taking care of my family. I used to enjoy every day with my husband, Tom, just like old times. We met through a friend’s introduction. He’s always been sociable, able to connect with anyone. When I was nervous at first, he reached out to me with a warm smile,

Rent or mortgage? Couldn't visit or didn't visit deliberately?

I will not believe that a husband wouldn't know how much his wife was making. I'm not even wasting my time in listening to this made-up story. I've wasted time before on stories like this, but no more.

Thanks for the reply. I just don't understand how it could be possible not to know each other's income if you truly love each other.

It depends who does the taxes in the US. My husband does ours. I never knew exactly how much he made when he was working but he would know mine because I gave him my W2 for tax purposes.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize there were so many keeping things from each other.

@@Dale-v6o It is not keeping things from each other. It is just that I had my own income (earnings) and we would both contribute to running our home expenses. I just did not feel the need to know everything he spent money on and vice versa. So long as neither of us created a lot of debt, we were okay.
My mother had to beg my father for every dollar. My dad would always say he was being close with money (a bit miserly) because he did not want to have to eat dog food when he was retired. (He never had to do that, was far from it.)
I did not want to end up like that in my marriage, where one person made all the decisions about everything the other purchased. It was so hard for my mother. And yes, one partner controlling how every penny is spent is actually quite common. I bet it happens in at least 50% of the marriages. It is very common among my relatives and siblings.
It is even common among couple friends we know.
