I feel 90-95% of player with huge contracts are just cashing checks. Very few of these big contracts ever pan out.
Steve Cohen is learning the hard way that money doesn’t magically solve your problems in baseball like it can for a hedge fund. Giving close to a billion dollars combined to Lindor, Nimmo, Marte, Verlander, Scherzer, and Diaz has set the organization back 5-10 years.

I think the thing to do is to blow it up. Try to stock up as many young talent as possible by trading away whatever value the team has. Use the Baltimore Orioles template. The fans and ownership need to be patient for about 3-4 years. That will be HARD.

I have given the Mets more years/chances than I gave my ex wife.
We were together for 15 years when it ended. While the Mets and I have been together for 59 yrs.
The end result is the same. I gave everything, and got very little in return. I was mislead and became angry and bitterly disappointed at being lied to. I did what was expected of me, year, after year, after, after year, before I finally threw in the towel.

IMO they don’t need Juan Soto or any other highly priced superstar right now. They need to take a look at how the Orioles and the Braves (even though they’re having a few problems right now) did it. Fully commit to player development and a 3 year rebuild.
The team added a bunch of journeyman players to short term deals, making zero significant signing except for JD Martinez because no one wanted him. This club was preparing for a throwaway year and everything was telegraphed in advance. But everyone is so surprised they stink. This core was good for half a season and will never regain that again. Get ready for the fire sale.

Lindor and Pete both are considered core players and 2 of the 3 leaders. So my thinking it's one or both of them are thorns on the Mets side and if I had to choose one to stay, it would be Pete, any day and all day long. But I am not a Lindor fan and I am all about keeping good homegrowns here, because once Pete moves out of his mental meltdown for vomiting money off his potential contract he will be the old Pete after that is over and done with, and especially if the Mets are brave enough to cut Lindor loose. Because I see tension between these two. So call me team Pete if you want, but Lindor is on the down swing of his career and he has always been about the money.
