I don't think people realize just how many famous (or somewhat famous) designers have designed flight attendant uniforms. Valentino for TWA, Emilio Pucci and Roy Halston (Braniff Airlines), Oleg Cassini (TWA), Coco Chanel and Pierre Cardin (Olympic Airways), Christian Dior, and Cristóbal Balenciaga (Air France), and Yves Saint Laurent (Qantas), among dozens of others. And who could miss Vivienne Westwood's iconic red Virgin Atlantic uniforms. You could do an entire topic on just airline uniforms!
If anyone is interested, you can Google Fashion in Flight: A history of Airline Uniform Design at the SFO museum and can scroll through all the designer creations for different airlines. I actually remember some of them, and I still wonder how they actually were able to work in others.

I was just craving an understitch video about Valentino, such a rich brand. I love the history element you bring to fashion research, truly doing a service for all fashion lovers. Kids are so lucky to have these resources available in such a presentable way. Never stop providing these resources it’s so enriching to have documentaries about each brand available for free. And it’s crazy to see the monopoly that Paris had on fashion back in the day. But also the opportunity that it opens up elsewhere when you leverage local abilities I think we still see aspects of that today with many foreign brands popping up.
Thank you so so much, thats really the main ethos of the channel, to bring that -very expensive to research- information to everyone for free. This video has made me more patient with the current direction at Valentino - I was a fan of Pierpaolo but better understand now how Alessandro may develop….if he’s given space to do it (and a side note that 60s Valentino is so timelessly beautiful. Love his respectful take on dressing women)
That's wonderful to know that there was a level of freedom for each to add to the concept as the clothing developed. The drawing being translated to the modelisation being fluid is quite lovely: and must have allowed for innovations organically.
if I may be bold, I believe that both Valentino and Schiaparelli are the only Legacy houses who have managed to revitalize, reinvigorate, or reintroduce their houses onto the much much modern times successfully, something that Gucci, Balenciaga, and Chanel have failed to do so.
If I may be italic, Valentino is truly the only one. All the others have changed CD or have had a relaunch, Valentino, as far as Im aware, is the only one thats had the same designer, mostly the same team, mostly the same branding, throughout all the history. In a way it made this video hard to write 😅

Thanks for your extensive research. I learned so much. It was interesting to learn that Valentino was very involved in each of his licensing deals. Also interesting that he saw a big drop in revenue when he pulled back and discontinued many of these licensing deals. I forgot about the Oliver label. I vaguely remember seeing the ads for this in fashion magazines back in the day. The new era under Alessandro will be interesting. Will he manage to keep the classic Valentino customers or will he chase them away because he turned the brand into Valentucci/Vucci. We shall see🤔....

like a lot of "designer brands Greed , cheap cloth Greed and a arrogant attitude... People just "See it's Over-Priced cloth . w Label on it... even Zara are feeling the pain - crappy cloth .
The shame of that is even if someone wanted to produce only the finest cloths today its not possible. The capable mills dont exist today. I have a Gieves and Hawkes jacket from 2012 and wanted to get matching trousers and the person in the store had to tell me its impossible because fabric like that doesnt exist any more. This is only 2012. Imagine the fabrics pre-war. Its so sad its all gone

I was born in Rome in the 70's and lived there on and off until 2010. It was an observation among people living in Rome seeing his red limo going back and forwards from his Appia Antica home to central Rome. My uncle was amused that Valentino didn't care.

I dont usually cover topics in that way. I suppose Im more of a biographer than a video essayist. However, wars have come up in several videos. WW2 (Chanel, Balenciaga and the best on was Schiaparelli) and Spanish Civil War / Revolution (Balenciaga, Paco Rabanne)

The shame of that is even if someone wanted to produce only the finest cloths today its not possible. The capable mills dont exist today. I have a Gieves and Hawkes jacket from 2012 and wanted to get matching trousers and the person in the store had to tell me its impossible because fabric like that doesnt exist any more. This is only 2012. Imagine the fabrics pre-war. Its so sad its all gone
