    When Destiny talks about keeping the ideas away from your identity (play games not a 'gamer', play music, not a 'musician'), it feels like he's so close to demonstrating the issue with the wave of gender-identity stuff we've seen. These people have attached themselves to a theory that they will defend because they've attached their worth to an idea.

      It reminds me of a video I watched years ago that delved into arguing some religious people.
      It said much the same when you attack thier beliefs they feel as if you are attacking them personally because they are so intertwined with their belief and manifestation of God.
      Not all religious people feel this way but I think it demonstrates the merging of yourself with ideology and the defense mechanism that arise when that ideology is under scrutiny.
      The funny thing is most of these people that identify as whatever are atheist themselves.
      I noticed years ago during the "atheist plus" movement that dogma doesn't need to be tied to any gods to flourish.

    That's why I hate when any sources call themselves "unbiased". That likely just means that they're blind to their biases and can't admit them.

    • @BiggestDataBoy
      @BiggestDataBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would only be true in the context of instinct. Implicit bias is impossible to avoid when you're being reactive. Implicit bias is "intuition" which happens in your brain before reason does. That said, a person can absolutely remove bias from their rationale. We can absolutely be objective in our analyses. It's also a good goal.

    • @cognizant8512
      @cognizant8512 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BiggestDataBoy "That said, a person can absolutely remove bias from their rationale. We can absolutely be objective in our analyses. It's also a good goal."
      This is a bit of a misnomer. You cannot be "objective" in sense that you 'remove all forms of bias from your rationale'. You can be close to such a state but that aspect is something that is biased in and of itself. You would have to be truly "removed" from our observable reality to be 100% 'unbiased' or 'objective'.
      If implicit bias is an intuition that happens before you can reasonably assess something, you cannot remove that bias because you base your reasoning off of that foundational aspect of your knowledge.

      When a source labels themselves as unbiased it hopefully means they don't have an interest in the matter. If a crash happens and you witnessed it and were giving a description of events and you didn't know anyone involved in it you would be an (more) unbiased source vs those who were friends with either of those involved. That's why unbiased third party is a term often used. I understand this is often not the case for self described unbiased sources.

      @Sam Farza Homie he thought putting a plus sized model on Sports illustrated was "Authoritarian Tolerance". He's just dogmatically anti-whatever he perceives as "woke". Also you can have a ridiculous ideology and still have "cordial conversations" and be "friendly" with people. I don't really understand what you're trying to get at there.

    • @MemaK124
      @MemaK124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Sam Farza You can have friendly conversations with people you disagree with and be ideologically possessed at the same time. Being ideologically blind is about an inability to process and engage with information about a given subject honestly. Doing so would fundamentally bring the possessed's worldview into question, something which is very uncomfortable and hard to do.
      Just watch some of Peterson's PragerU videos and tell he isn't possessed by the ideology of the status quo and personal responsibility in its purest form. His distilled claim is basically give up on trying to change the system, instead focus on tangible changes in your personal life - set your life in order, clean your room etc. Only once you've overcome your personal chaos, can you turn your eye to society's problems. Which is great advice for some people but becomes laughable if you take a more systemic approach. Imagine saying this during slavery in the US or the women's suffrage movement. "Set your life in order first, then try to change society" But what if your life is in disorder exactly because of society and its systems of oppression? Personal responsibility can only go so far.
      Another example is his total disdain for Postmodern Neo-Marxist (whatever that means lol). He almost never engages with this subject honestly or competently. Peterson clearly hasn't read Marx besides The Communist Manifesto, which is a pamphlet not an academic text. He doesn't understand Foucault and Derrida. He constantly spouts conspiracy theories about covert Marxists turning into postmodernists and the Frankfurt school etc. These examples create two possibilities - either Peterson is ideologically motivated to misrepresent/not engage with these ideas or he is just stupid. I think the former is more likely. Peterson has a PhD after all.

What I don't want to be right on is useless stuff like when was some historical person born. There is far too much information of that sort in the world and it simply doesn't do any good to anyone.

    Not sure I understand this distain for Rogan, lol. I know he doesn’t get everything right but his podcast as exposed the world to a lot of great things. That’s how I first learned about Jamal Kashoggi, The info behind the algorithm, the true tragedy occurring in N. Korea. I feel like he at least goes into things in good faith if nothing else. Adults should do their own research after he presents it.

    • @petergregory7177
      @petergregory7177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ill give it a shot. I don't subscribe to this theory but I think I understand the reasonable version of why rogan ought be considered a problem.
      What you say is largely true. Over the years Rogan has brought a ton of people on from all walks of life and barring the topics he feels very strongly on like marijuana or mma/sports he will approach the topic very openly, and doesn't try to fight his guests on all too many issues. Because he treats these guests largely the same it can give the illusion that the guests are similarly reasonable. If the listeners are approaching the content non critically, and feel the guests are similarly reasonable they are then vulnerable to the bad ideas of some of his guests, and rogan by not pushing back and platforming these ideas, he is viewed as tacitly endorsing them.
      Additionally the anti rogan sentiment is largely correct when saying the deplatforming of extremism makes it harder for those bad ideas to spread.
      Unfortunately its not clear what happens to an bad ideology left devoid of its access to new people. Why hold moderate positions that could be appealing to someone not within your fold, if you cant reach those people any more.

      @@BenReillySpydr1962 I just watched the video but I found his point about contradictions disingenuous. Things were changing daily in regard to the pandemic and as we learned more he adjusts. That’s one of the things I like about him, he’s willing to challenge his own ideas and reach his own conclusion and expose people to different ideas.
      He’s also way over analyzing it. I watch the show because he’s approaching things with and often has entertaining and/or interesting guests on. That’s also why the other ppl I know watch it. Not just bc he’s “anti-establishment”. I really don’t care about that part. He’s just searching for some sort of truth is a sea of bullshit - is it perfect, no but the that’s not the point.
      I also read a few to the top comments and they make good points about other ways the guy doing the video was incorrect or misunderstanding.
      Frankly, I’ve been watching the show for years and I’m a fan of comedy. It’s quite clear “Wisecrack” reached his conclusion based on the articles he’s read and not approaching it objectivity.
