In the end, Max presumably Killed The Nugget and might have shown regretfulness from his own action. The Good ending shows The Nugget has prepared for the worst agains’t Max since the player helped The Nugget and during his face off agains’t Max, He doesn’t fear him but still unexpectedly thrown to the Sky which still caught the Nugget off guard. So I think the reason the nugget wears a hat is because he fought the brain rot and became a meme again like back when the nugget was a decent meme.
