I had the chance to meet the gentlemen himself. He lives next store to my aunt on me mothers side.A very talented fellow, very friendly too. When i went to see him,he played and sang for me even tho he just came from an all nighter. I look forward to seeing him again when i go home for Christmass.
Great writer and singer!!This is one of my all time favorite NL songs! I hope to move back there someday soon. I've been away way too long!!!Keep up the great work Wayne!!:)
this time we need to be "proactive" with the fishery and learn by the political mistakes and the "trade" of managements (plus our own carelessness) with OUR NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERY... that was the reason we (newfies) came here in the first place,it was because of cod fish.>>>> (Im Proud to be a Newfoundlander) lovely and true descriptive lyrics excellent job here by Wayne Bartlett...100-100
67' and Joey was movin all the outport families to central locations for better services, then he pulled them, shut them down. But he was good to us and let us go work in the mines!!!! Now the Lobsters are gone, here on the Chesapeake the crabs are almost gone, an the arster's ain't worth eatin.
I moved from Nfld 12 years ago and I still miss it like crazy to this day. With that said, I can't say that other Canadians treat me like shit. As a matter of fact, most treat me me pretty good and with respect (most, not all). As for the fishery, it took the dumb governent too long to implement quotas or any kind of protection for the resource. If the cod fishery was managed properly 40 - 50 years ago there would still be lots of cod to catch.
I haven't heard Wayne Bartlett sing since I was a little girl. One song really sticks in my head and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. It's the St. Anthony Waltz by Wayne Bartlett. If you could post this song for me I would be much appreciative.
@newfielad47 yes sir you did say that out loud but I agree with you 100%. If they can come from overseas to fish cod then why in the hell can't we go out and fish em too?
It's exactly what's in this song .....What WE didn't destroy WE left to die......So who should take the blame for the decline in the fishery ........just take a stab at it in the dark and see what you can come up with
I agree about the poor management back then, but of course hind sight is a grand thing isn't it? But in my experience (limited though it is), and from what I hear on the radio and read on the internet, the Canadians treat us terribly. and my other points still stand
our coast guards can't keep up with all the other countries fishing cod at and in our 200 mile water line. Them bastards are fishing our cod why the hell are they allowed to do that these fish will not replenish if this is on going what is being done to stop it? this is not the newfoundlanders fault!!!!! Our government needs to get a spine HA! did I say that out loud?
What! Haha, that's funny, "Its Joey's fault". I like that you love NFLD but the math doesn't add up my friend, thank God we are a part of Canada. As a matter of fact, Thank God we are part of Labrador or we would have nothing. The Newfoundlanders should thank all Labradorians and Canadians for letting them in. God Bless Newfoundland.
In 1966 I worked on the fairtry 2 on the Grand Banks and I’m sorry to say we were just one of four hundred boats that plundered the Canadian cod stocks our skipper got paid on the wet ton crew got paid on processed ton our skipper hauled six hundred baskets of immature cod and sent them down the hacker for fish meal and the asshole put the net back in the water for another six hundred baskets to be hacked for fish meal I could not tell you how many fish we destroyed but there were more boats around us doing the same now a lot of the blame for the collapse of this fishery which was hundreds of years old was destroyed by our greed and Canadian government stupidity they knew what was going on and did nothing about it I had no say in the matter but I was sixteen and dumb as I might have been I saw the writing on the wall I am ashamed to have been part of that gang bang
it should be the navy protecting the coast line, if you ever go on south side the boats are all ways tied up, so there never out to see unless there is a emergency. let the navy protect it then seas the ship and sell the ship to someone else take the money give some to the fishermen and then spread the rest on trying to get the cod back...
Labrador population is growing with our head size....sorry, I had too..haha. Hey, we still like NL...just its not that great of a place to live...that's why people are leaving...the weather...the fog...small town living....people today are looking for more excitement...its all west.....Toronto/Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver....just more access to better living/vacations//social programs and jobs. There's nothing wrong with Newfoundland if you like that style of living. Take care
well you're showing a little more respect..and sorry, but it is a great place to live, and I know lots who agree.some are leaving, but some are staying, some are coming..and since you're being this way about it now, sorry for my 1st comment,NFLD's not "part" of labrador,or vice versa.but I'd like to work together here. and while I may dislike some things canada has done to NL,the last thing I want is internal disrespect.but to make a welfare crack right off....so I'm sorry, you take care as well. :D
Maple Leak bastards???..Canada....haha...Like the wonderful grand band song...your living in a fog...Labrador ..6% of the population......like the battle of Britain......Newfoundlanders should say "Never was so much owed by so many to so few"...If you meet a Labradorian...shake his/her hand for saving what you think is your province. Its ok Newfoundland...your welcome.
constant population loss, constant loss of culture and way of life, just to start....all canada's fault. maybe due to that is why labrador went from a simple NFLD work station to rich and snobby with a swelled head. which your own attitude shows.
Don't get better than this even if it does bring a tear to the eye!

2021. Talks of shutting down the south coast cod fishery. She’s gone.
