The icon for a wood turner is the gouge. The icon for a "*MASTER WOOD TURNER*" is the SKEW! Yes, I know one can't hollow out a form with a skew but that's not my point. The skew typically strikes fear with novice turners. Because of this they rarely become the master of it, as *Tomislav* definitely *IS*! 🥰 Wakodahatchee Chris
Chris thank you so much for kind words, I'm not master, I still and always will learn , I like to say that I'm long life student of the craft🤗 thank you very much for support
A saying I use when demonstrating, from some unknown skew master, "The bevel should rub the wood, but the wood should not know it." I need to work a lot more with the skew...
Excellent video. I will approach the skew a bit more confidently in future. I'm looking forward to your tool videos and particularly interested in learning about optimum tool rest height. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise
Great video Tomislav …. You are a master with the skew! After watching your videos I have felt comfortable enough to start using my skew. I guess that even a 71 year old man can learn some new skills🥴🤠🇨🇱
Thank you sir, never to late to start, skew is accually quite simple ,but what is a common thing is that people are afraid of it without proper reason.... I'll try to sort that in full video soon
Tomislav, I enjoy your videos very munch and look forward to your coming videos on the different tools we use. I have always felt that you are never to old to learn.
Tomoslav, You make it look so smooth and easy. I think my skew work needs some practice. Looking forward to your videos on preparing the various tools! Thank you for your commitment to the craft.
Wish I had seen this before turning an icicle ornament earlier this evening: that supporting finger tip is golden. My ornament wouldn't have broken at the near tip had I watched this beforehand.
Great work , i learn so much from you . I am amazed it the speed and confidence of your work. Can't wait for the tool lessons. You should have 1,000,000 subscribers.
You make it so look so easy using the skew. I tend to stay away from the skew in favor of other tools. I am going to try and put the skew to more use now after watching you do this. Thank you for a great video.
Discovered you due to Richard Raffan''s 4 ways to turn ..... Very nice video on the skew ( i like the skew a lot ). I am subscribing. Looking forward to your lessons. Dave
Nice demo: I understand the opportunity of learning to use de skew: I just turned 24 finials and 24 tops for Christmas decorations; I finally got rid of my fear of the skew!
Great video, thanks for taking the time to share this with us. I will definitely be giving this a go. I have been making a few little Christmas trees out of scraps of pine and it is great for working on skew chisel technique…though making that very fine point will be a big step up for me. Looking forward to the tool videos very much.
What do you think of the German type skews such as the Crown Tools, M2 Cryo, 3/4" Skew Chisel, Colwin Way Signature? I was wondering if they would be perhaps better for detailed and fine work. Thanks for your input.
Interesting question, those conus skews are just different, they work Great but at least for me its different way of holding them, other then that they work just the same as any other skews apart from elipse.....
Tomislav, When you do these tool videos, could you mention the speed at which your lathe is spinning? Both on this one and the scrsper/burnisher video, it appears things are spinning above my comfort zone!
Will try James, I'll try to remember to mention tool rest height as well as speed, this little spindle is turning at 1660rpm,I rarely go faster then then as I would have to change belt , and I'm too lazy🤗
Very nice video. I really enjoyed making these, just posted my video. No idea about the new lathe now if it's not a Vicmarc or a Stratos. You did say it was not uncommon so maybe it's a Nova? Some of the Brands that Neureiter do are a bit more obscure...
I saw your version, its great and great skill with skew, I ment to say that is not common all that much but I hope to change that.... Thank you for watching
Yes, i am annoyed, why can’t I use the devils tool like this, i shit myself every time i pick it out of the tool rack….looking forward to the tutorials. Good work my friend and well done on the new lathe……….spoiler……😮
Great project for skew practice. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you very much

Thank you for kind words and watching.... You'll be surprised by tool rest height in the video 😉

If I tried that I'd launch it at someone's eye... Amazing to see your tool control. Thanks for the video!
😂😂 thats why we have eye protection😅.... thank you Joris
Thank you for this! Look forward to seeing more of your videos
Thank you, a lot in the video playlist 😀

Very nice! You've been a big influence in my using the skew more and more! Thank you!
Take care, Dave
Thank you Dave,so glad to hear that ☺️
Wish I had seen this before turning an icicle ornament earlier this evening: that supporting finger tip is golden. My ornament wouldn't have broken at the near tip had I watched this beforehand.
Try it, it doesn't take much to support ornament, as we tent not to push hard on thin stuff....thank you for watching

Thank you sir, I'm honored to be able to help out
Great exercise! I'm going to try that this weekend. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming tool lessons. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you sir, go for it, its really fun
Much respect, I have recently been using my skew much more recently and still getting catches, your skills are amazing.
Thank you very much,Its just practice,I also have a lot to learn on skew as only after 40 years you are a master of one 😀
Very very nice work. And looking forward to the new video on tools
Thank you very much
Very nice I love the information another great video. Thanks.
Thank you for watching
Awesome turning and demonstrating master levels with that skew - thanks for sharing and I look forward to the tool lessons.
Thank you very much sir
Looking forward to the Skew video. The skew is a tool I struggle with, probably because I am using it incorrectly.
Part one is live already 😅
Thank you very much for watching
I may have to find something else to open paint cans, and start practicing with the skew. I look forward to seeing you shape and sharpen
Ohh definitive find something else😅 Thank you for watching
Your a great teacher, love watching you work. Super informative 👍👍
Great skew exercise Tomislav.
Thank you Jack, hope you'll try it
You make it so look so easy using the skew. I tend to stay away from the skew in favor of other tools. I am going to try and put the skew to more use now after watching you do this. Thank you for a great video.
Thank you, its just practice really
Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to seeing your new shop and videos. Thank you.

Very helpful, look forward to the next video with more detail! Stay safe.
Thank you, you to😀
Very, very nice work. I’m a new turner and im definitely looking forward to the new videos on how to use the tools. Thank you for sharing this.
No worries,thank you for watching
Lovely. I have only been turning for a few months and I have learnt so much from your videos. Not yet used a skew.
Thank you and now is the chance to use one ☺️
Nice piece of wood ☺☺
Thank you

Great to hear that Alain, skew is wonderfull tool

Like with any tool , just don't push on the wood and you'll be able to turn thin...☺️
Thank you very much
very very nise🥰
Thank you
Looks like a great skew exercise. You make it look deceptively easy. Will definitely need to try this. Saw you do this on your IG account as well.
Its awsome idea from Richard Findley, and please do try it, its super easy and usefull as well

I’m guessing Vicmark lathe
Thank you Steven for watching, nope not a vicmark although its one of the dream lathes.... This one is close to that quallity
A good demo, thanks. Would this also work for plastic tree ornaments, or would the plastic break on the lathe?
Hmm not sure, never turn a plastic but I would say that it can be done thin as well
Very nice video. I really enjoyed making these, just posted my video. No idea about the new lathe now if it's not a Vicmarc or a Stratos. You did say it was not uncommon so maybe it's a Nova? Some of the Brands that Neureiter do are a bit more obscure...

@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Thank you very much and good luck!
Seen a few of these today. How do you decide when to use the short point and when to use the long point?
Thank you Chris, Its hard to write it down, I'll explain that and much more on videos soon on how to use skews😀
Tomislav, what angle do your grind your skew to? Yours looks like it has a much longer bevel than I grind to. Maybe mine is too steep?
I'll have to measure it,but really soon I'll post a video on everything I do about skews so that explain more in depth about angles as well.....
The lathe was called "the old lathe"...... Tomi got another new lathe lads, a big Stratos or a Vicmarc I wonder 😁
😂😂 hopefully tommorow,but non of those two☺️
That's my guess.
Do you ever plane with the long point when the spindle gets thin?
Sometimes I do, really depends on the shape as well 😀
New lathe?!
Could be 😀
I may try this but the skew makes me a little nervous? Great video.
Worst case scenario is you'll mess up your blank, skews are accually quite safe
...catch with gouges are far more dangerous
That makes the nerves a little better!@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
Yes, i am annoyed, why can’t I use the devils tool like this, i shit myself every time i pick it out of the tool rack….looking forward to the tutorials. Good work my friend and well done on the new lathe……….spoiler……😮
Thank you very much, after skew video series you'll call it angels tool.... 😉
I’m guessing a Robust……
Ohh no, 😭but I would say pretty same quallity 😀
