    Interesting to watch, ya know what Scott, just barely saw my first Almond Tree last week, my first English Walnut Tree also last week on Just Mike's channel and now on your COOL channel, I now see them up close, remember years ago seeing Pecan orchards along the highway passing through Chihuahua, but nothing beats an up close viewing! Thanks buddy, thanks for sharing and greetings to you and your beautiful Mrs. HFT(taking a cue from Cody at his Wranglerstar channel, he hasn't named his wife, we only know her as Mrs. W! ;)

    Your Pecan trees look so good! There’s a place I take care of that we have 15 pecan trees that are about your size. All of them have put on a foot or more of growth this year. I don’t spray them like I should! Keep up the great videos and update with the Pecan orchard and god bless!

      Thanks! A little bit of zinc mixed with water and sprayed a handful of times per year will make a ton of difference. We also fertilize them in the spring with a general fertilizer. Thanks for watching.

    Hello! Really enjoy your videos! I recently planted 1400 Pawnee and Caddo trees. This is only their second yr, I’m anxious to get to production lol. Yours look great! I’m still learning everyday and you’ve helped me a lot! Do you have any recommendations on a well-rounded insecticide to use? The biggest problem I have are some type of worm eating the leaves, and my trees are fairly young so in some cases, one of those pesky insects can demolish one tree! Thanks for any advice and keep the vids rolling!

      @HeritageFarmsTexas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on your new orchard. Wow, that’s a lot of trees. We use a insecticide called Warhawk?

    Just came across your channel a enjoy your videos. Do you have any videos on how you spray the round up around your trees and the lanes. Im always afraid that i might kill my trees so end up never spraying around them. I have over 100 chestnut trees and am starting to add pecan trees and a small apple and pear orchard

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for watching. Congrats on your chestnut orchard and pecans. Sounds nice. Yes we are very careful in spraying. Once the trunks get “rough” supposedly they will not absorb it. We try to not spray them if possible. We are very careful with wind etc. you can check out our pecan play list. Thanks.

    I like that sprayer you have. For our trees we hire someone to spray and it's our largest expense. Here in coastal Georgia, aphids are what we have to control and we end up spraying every 3-4 weeks during the summer. Our trees are about 25 years old so I'm not sure that sprayer could reach up in to the tops. What brand is that sprayer? Does it run off the PTO?
    Subscribed! Thanks for your comments on my channel!

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, it’s a terminator sprayer that works off PTO. You can change the tips in there for more of a fog or more of a stream. It’ll shoot pretty high now

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being a fairly small orchard, we split the cost of the sprayer with another small orchard close by. Really helped both of us.

  • @CedarCreekHomestead
    @CedarCreekHomestead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you not graze cattle around your pecan trees. Just wondering if it hurts the trees or something. Thanks

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cedar Creek Homestead - hello, we do not because of the irrigation system. We do bake the hay though. Plus some of the trees are small enough they could push on them. Maybe down the road, just not now. Good question.

    Hi, your trees look amazing. I am looking at starting a few acres of them and was wondering what varieties you plant? Did you have to amend your soil with anything? We have very heavy clay soil here in southern Ok.
    Thank you.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, we are not far from you. We are in North Texas near river. We have Kanza, Pawnee, and Ochane? Trees. You should check out the Nobel Foundation. Dr Charles Rohla is a huge asset to the industry.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We took soil samples and sent off to Texas A&M prior to planting to make sure we were OK to plant. You need to also look at doing a drain test to see how your soil drains prior to planting.

    Wonderful. How old are the trees?

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We planted the orchard in 2013 and the trees were container grown. So, probably 8-9 years old now.

  • @JustLiving2018

    So how many pounds do you guys harvest each year? Looking really good.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Last year was the first year they started to produce. It takes 7-10 years before they produce. At maturity, they could produce 75-100lbs per tree.

      Thanks for watching. Really appreciate it. My advice is to get started with what you have. Even if it’s growing container plants until you get more land. Don’t put off what you can do today. Good luck.

    Are you using well water to irrigate? I've been told that in Delta County wells have to be very deep to reach water.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we drilled a well just for the pecans. Our well is probably 150’ deep.

      @@HeritageFarmsTexas I might have a well on my property. It's right next to a slab where there once was a small house. It could also be a buried cistern as it has plumbing pipes.

    Do you have a pecan picking machine or do you hire the work out? We have several great big native pecan trees and took a small load that we hand picked to the pecan place in Paris last year.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas

      Didn’t realize you were that close. Paris is about 30 mins from us. We are not big enough to justify our own equipment. Right now we are manual. We will out source work long term.
