Dude! I thought I invented this exact technique independently, but looking at the date I think you may have beat me by a few months... This is why I ALWAYS fly with two quads now, and a couple hundred feet of Paracord. The Arborist throw bag/weight helps too for those snags that aren't as high.
Don't know why this video has only just been recommended but that is a great idea... In the UK we have tons of Blackberry bushes that are just thorns from top to bottom. I spent 2 hours a few weeks ago cutting through one with hedge shears to get my Oldschool Mr Steele quad back.. Got cut to pieces but slept like a baby that night looool.
Having rescued quads a couple of times, it really works a lot easier and saves your fingers being cut by lines. It is like a precision operation. Just make sure to fly or hover around the target and understand your escape route for the rescue quad. Enjoy!
reminds me on my drone stuck in the trees few years ago, I also made a video about it XD came back with a friend, bought some materials for help unstuck the drone which was over 10 meters high... had fun! (and was scared XD)
I've been lucky enough to always crash in fairly narrow trees, so I've always climbed. It's good to know an extra trick if climbing is no longer a sane option. Thanks!
A ball of chord and a tennis ball 🎾 been done for years a high ark over the top , gentle tugs and get ready to catch 😊 , sometimes two strings one to tug the branch and the other as a back up
old vid I know, but the part of "no need to hurry" is only true if you're willing to sacrifice the lipo because it'll run dead. maybe you can recover it but it neither safe or still has the og performance.
Just as reference. You are correct on the increased risk on battery safety and reliability. I had revived a few dead dead batteries. Importantly is to use 0.1A to charge the dead battery up to around 2.9 or 3V per cell. Then continue charging normally (not fast charge)using LiPo as battery type. Flies fine in general. Will deplete slightly faster, as well as sag happens on high current draws. At least you still can use it.
If you can get good at slinging rocks (like david vs goliath) you might be able to sling a rock with the string attached over the branch. Don't use an actual sling, just tie the rock and use the string like a sling. Or with an actual sling, sling tennis balls at the drone. Both have worked for me.
Do you mean what if both drones got stuck, including the rescue drone? It does require the pilot to at least be steady at controlling the rescue drone to execute the rescue. Also, the margin of error shouldn't be too small. Whole point is to loop over the brunch and let the rescue drone descend down so that you can shake up the brunch.
You certainly can and should. However, if the entanglement doesn't allow brute force punching out of the brunches, especially if the leaves or brunches don't allow the props to even spin up, you will have to find other ways to free it. This is just one of the many methods.
I used four 8 foot long 1x3 boards taped together the overlapping ends with duct tape but i could not stand up 5 or 6 of them . 5 or 6 are too long of a wood stick . And a short horizontal piece in a 7 shape .th-cam.com/video/5U1ceeHUgIs/w-d-xo.html
@@nutsidea I have a video of this but I was flying line of sight and not thinking about recording at the time, it took me less than 2 minutes to pluck the drone out of the tree, make the hook big so if you get caught on something it can bend
Wow! Impressive. I can never kick a football straight. But if you can, good for you! I ever retrieved a drone after it was up on a tree for 11 days of rain and sunshine. Only thing damaged was the battery. But you can slow charge and revive it too. So no worries. Just don't plug in the battery when it is still wet.
"Easily"? LOLZ OK WAY overly complicated and most people don't have 2 spare drones to help recover a third. Or, hear me out here, you could just go to Home Depot, etc. and lash together several wooden dowels or PCV pipe and place a hook and an eyelet for a rope on the end of it. You can reach about 20-25' vertically before it's a problem holding steady and you can add ladders to increase height. I really see no value in risking more drones in this manner, except to show off that you could do it. It's not practical.
The 1970s called. They want their microphone back.

What a wonderful park!
awesome! this is one of the best documented drone rescue! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you.
Good stuff I will keep this method in my head when the situation ultimately arrives for me. What kind of rope are you using again?
any string strong but not heavy will work. I used raffia string. Pls google to see how it looks like
@@nutsidea Thanks brother.🍺🍺
looks like Singapore - which part ?
a small fly zone near Australian School
@@nutsidea Cool - really enjoyed your video - very helpful - am just getting started and anticipate this problem !
Excellent video on how to! Thank you very much!
That was a fun video!
The flat battery charger advise is interesting. I'll have to check that out next time i kill a pack.
I'm subb'n ya bro!
Great tip! I had been using an arborist's throw line kit. This looks much easier.

how did ur get those CAAS sticker/cert
head to the post office with your IC. The registration stickers can be bought off the counter.
great. thx
Good save😊

once a plane got stuck in a 40m tall tree... I couldnt throw a weight that high, therefore waited a month for the next stormy wind....

@@nutsidea right, so I'd rather try to get it out as fast as I can rather than going home and drinking a tea. 😁 but yeah, it stresses me out.
A 1" nut tied to the fishing string has worked wonders,at least 40 recovery sofar, bring extra nuts don't ask me why.

U must be very good at it.
Great video, aweful audio, keep them coming!
I agree that the audio can be improved. Thanks for the feedback.
i might need this vid in the future 👍
4 s at 13 or 14 volts stop?
Hi Greg. Kindly explain what is a 13 or 14 volts stop. I don't quite understand your question.
Chainsaw or dynamite, works for me.
Also swearing does help in some cases
Very informative.Thank u bro👍🏼😊
Turtle mode!! 🐢
Yes. Always try that first. Some situations doesn't allow the props to spin up at all. Then this might be something you can try.
@@nutsidea you I’ve been in situations where turtle mood dident work. Had to climb!!
Why not try turtle mode first

make a hook out of a coat hanger and use the dji fpv as a sky crane, much much easier than this

tie a water bottle to the end of the rope Throw over limb pull like hell
works for low trees. I am not strong enough to throw it 4 stories high though.
