When my mom bought a new build, the master bedroom had a massive bowed wall. So keep an eye out for that. It will have to be replaced or the wall will fall at some point. Thankfully, my brother is a builder and he noticed it during the walk through and flagged it. She also used post it notes on the walk through before closing to note all the things that needed fixing. Don't worry about that affecting your resale value - you're just slightly ahead of the curve, but I bet that will become pretty standard within the next few years. Anyway, I'm so happy for you guys!
Congrats! I saw you looking at houses but had no idea you went with building your own. It's nice because you can customize it to your needs! We moved a few months ago from a rental house without a fenced yard to our house with a fenced yard. We have 6 dogs and it's so nice not having to walk all of them and they love running around. Buddy doesn't play much but I saw him chasing Tippy around the yard this morning. I love seeing him finally playing. Yard is big but fenced it smaller because of parking off the back alley. The dogs have plenty of room so Harlow is going to love running around that large yard. The covered patio is great for her to be outside but out of the weather. Congrats again! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Mary B they aren’t customizing it too much. It was the last house in that development to be sold I believe, so the developers decided to build it just like how the model home is designed and that’s when they bought it. They like how the model home is designed so everything worked out

There's lots of construction in my area so I get to watch houses go up gradually as I walk my dog past each day. Can't imagine how exciting it must be when it's your own though!
Some people do need bath tubs for various reasons. For example my daughter has chronic hives/ angioedema and sometimes she needs to soak her skin with different treatments.

Our master bath doesn't have a tub. We never gave it a second thought when purchasing. It was our "starter home" in 1990 when we got married. We are still in the house. We are very happy to have a walk-in shower now as we've gotten older. While resale value is a consideration, what you NEED is a bigger one. You might never sell the house, or a buyer might LOVE the extra large shower.

I miss building projects in high school before my health got really bad but if my health were better I'd try to be an electrician. My entire family works in the trades we have carpenters electricians hvac plumbers and mechanics I always loved learning about what they did and I used to want to be a mechanic like my uncles but I have to take care of my body first and unfortunately that just isnt in my cards right now

So since they have put the roof on it would good to walk around the house and pick up the leavings from the nail guns. I have been at a couple of work sites before and found lots of them left after they landscaped. The landscaper can (not always) suffer from not my job and just landscape over all the nails.

I'm trying to buy my own first home and let me tell you, back here in the UK they're building shoeboxes on postage stamps.
You have a tub in your guest bathroom, so I agree that you didn't need two of them! I would have done the exact same thing. Are they able to put a little bench in the shower? That would be handy! I need to get out of the -20 degree winters and 12 feet of snow but my daughter lives in Winter Park in a PUD and they literally come and measure her grass, her flowers out front need to "approved," etc., etc., which would drive me nuts....any ideas where in Florida I should move to? All replies/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I'll be 62 in March and don't have $250k for a house....I know that's asking a lot, but any and all suggestions would be great! It's South Florida and we have certain building codes here because of the water table/the elevation of the state, you dig down more than a few feet and you hit water. I'm not sure that would be an option in South Florida
Yaya! Awesome you were able to get the tub subbed out for a shower. We have a massive garden tub and it's a massive pain in the butt. It isn't deep enough to be enjoyable and so I never use it... It just collects dust... Which I have to clean 😭 😭 😭
